Thanks for sharing that, Cleome. I think that's a very well-written song, but Marshall's voice is much more my cup of tea. So here's (one version of) his interpretation:

EDIT: Listening to a Grant Hart song put me in mind of his ex-HD bandmate, Bob Mould. There's a couple songs from his first solo album, "Workbook," that I really like.

"Compositions For the Young and Old," my favorite:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRvgNfjGGNM

"See a LIttle Light," the big college radio hit of 1989-90:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDnNr6lNxvc

I hadn't listened to either of those is years!

Thanks again, Cle!

Been on a Hong Kong cinema kick lately and this opening music to Hard Boiled is amazing:

^^ Love the theme music, love the movie!

I actually got to see it on the big screen, just a couple years after it was made, because of the Hong Kong Cinema craze in the States at the time.

cheers Ann!

I'm really into Shaw Bros stuff right now, especially the Chang Cheh stuff with David Chiang, who's quickly becoming one of my favorite actors!

I don't know how many cover versions now exist for the song "Tainted Love" (originally a Motown-styled B-side from 1964), but here's MY favorite-- by a German bar band named "Voodoo Rockets", fronted by singer Karsten Kohler. I've been a fan of his for over 20 years, but this was the first time I ever saw him on video...

Not "latest," exactly. But a few months ago, I was on another board where most of the contributors are MUCH younger than me. There was a song challenge-game-thing, and I felt goofy only contributing stuff that's already twenty years old. Looking around for recent locally-grown music, I found this excellent Warm Springs Native hiphop group: The Blue Flamez:

(On a road trip to central OR several years back, we drove past the W.S. center/museum... you can see the building early in this video, though they weren't open that day. I mean to go back at some point, though.)

Help! Somebody help!!!

I can't stop playing this damn Stevie Wonder/Cypress Hill/Beastie Boys mashup over and over and... and I don't even have the excuse of being a hardcore fan of any of them. (It must be the cat embroidery that's responsible...?)

Speaking of mashups: I've plugged the DJ Disco Cat channel on YouTube before. One song he introduced me to which I didn't know before: Eruption's "One Way Ticket (To The Blues)" (1979).

All I want for my 55th birthday is for somebody to mash this up with Fastball's "The Way." They are absolutely meant to be together. Listen for just a minute or so and you'll see what I mean. nod

CLANG_Potroast brought this song to my attention. I enjoyed it a lot. The lyrics are very funny, and easy for me to relate to, having been a naysayer to the pop culture being sold to my generation during the early 90s. I anticipate listening to it many more times.

Hey, I remember I once tried to plug The Black Watch's "Steve Albini," too. But when I mentioned the ironic strings, I scared you away. Anyway, here it is before I forget again:

"I Wanna' Be Your Only 'Punk Rock' Girl"

I'm giggling at people in the Smithereens thread getting upset about their song, as if N.J. hasn't put up with a ton of snide put-downs over the years. shrug Oh, well. Humor is subjective, etc.

Amazing how Belinda Carlisle transformed from her time in the Go-Gos. (Wow, I said the Bangles, which is totally wrong!)

And in that vein, Tracy Chapman's Heaven's Here on Earth.

Shadows are falling and I'm running out of breath
Keep me in your heart for a while
If I leave you it doesn't mean I love you any less
Keep me in your heart for a while

When you get up in the morning and you see that crazy sun
Keep me in your heart for a while
There's a train leaving nightly called "When All is Said and Done"
Keep me in your heart for a while

Sometimes when you're doing simple things around the house
Maybe you'll think of me and smile
You know I'm tied to you like the buttons on your blouse
Keep me in your heart for a while

Hold me in your thoughts
Take me to your dreams
Touch me as I fall into view
When the winter comes
Keep the fires lit
And I will be right next to you

Engine driver's headed north up to Pleasant Stream
Keep me in your heart for a while
These wheels keep turning but they're running out of steam
Keep me in your heart for a while
-- Warren Zevon

Yup, and it's always great to see and hear what other people enjoy. Still have a lot of love for HWW top 40s.
