The art and colours seemed a little bland for the "launch of a major event" but I thought the premise was okay.

ah....Rest in peace, Namorita (you're way too close to be nuked!), Night Thrasher, and Speedball. I don't recognize the big guy...strong guy's long lost son?

Actually, that's Microbe - Night Thrasher's son.

I don't see the trash girl (whatsername - "Refuse?" "Flotsom?", "Debris?"). Too bad.

Night Thrasher has a son?!? whoa....that's unreal! I am soooo behind with those New Warriors membership. I remember those New Warriors when Marvel Boy, Namorita (not blue skinned), Night Thrasher, Speedball, Firestar, with Silhouette recurring appearances.

Saw the preview...'shakes head'. Why does death have to be so overdone in comics today?

Marvel and DC are on a roll lately...

Active LMB character is still Beast Boy.

meh. too bad namorita bit the dust. maybe she will survive...her character has been going through a psylocke thing nayways. don't see the other new warriors as a big loss.

after seeing the preview i can't help but say "what about the children?"

According to the interviews, there will only be a few deaths, and they'll be "meaningful". I can understand killing off a few characters to get the ball rolling (I'll give them credit for killing heroes rather than someone's family member as an "event" at least). I don't think Marvel will be tossing decapitated corpses on a pile, but expect a few more deaths down the line. Aside from various New Warriors, my guesses are:
-- Scarlet Witch
-- USAgent
-- Hawkeye (again)

I'm not interested in Civil War. Thanks to Infinte Crisis, I've sworn off all mega-crossovers from either of the Big Two.

Drake, I came to really like these three under DnA's work with FORCE WORKS. It would be a shame to see any of them fall.

I'm with Stealth. No more mega cross overs for a few years.

Just spouting off.

Anyone else read the last page of ASM531 to see who's getting blamed for the Nitroxplosion?

Heh. So all of Joe Q's calling for that character's death resulted in him being the one to make it. I wonder if that was his plan all along, or if Millar had that character live to playfully through it in Joe's face?

Oh, I wouldn't be so convinced he's "made it" yet - given his powers, he should have made it through the blow-up, but if he's getting blamed for it, he may be "made an example of", or get a bullet to the head from a vengeful parent (or the Punisher, FTM, who's meant to be turning up in a "big way")...

Should we just rename this the official "Civil War" thread? #1's out and ....

*no spoilers*... there's nothing really "new" here. We know from the preview what the big catalyst is and we basically know the government's response. The first issue sets us up and we already knew this. I was a bit surprised things have fallen apart so soon in terms of Cap, but I guess that's better than it building too slowly.

And is it me or does Daredevil look weird (and almost psychotic?)? What's with the coin? Maybe this is the fake DD that's been running around (although that negates my theory that the fake DD is Spidey).

Actually, no. I'd rather not since this is a poll and should be 'unhooked' when it is over (I don't know what will happen with a poll that gets too many posts and I really don't want to find out). I started a thread about the Road to Civil War before this one but it didn't get much interest. We can use it or start an official one.

But was the issue worth picking up? I did not preorder this series after Crap of M. Burn me once, same on you...

Well, I'd say it was worth picking up if you're interested in the idea of the series and want to be complete. There's nothing really special about #1 in particular. Like I said, it sets up the circumstances of the mini which we've already been made aware of from previews and stuff.

i liked it a little better than i thought i would, but still... you already know everything that happens in this ish, no surprises, as Drake said...

and a part of me doesn't really trust mark millar as a writer... several times i have read something he wrote that started out great, and then something happens to pull the rug out from underneath it, and i end up hating it.

so then why did i buy Civil War? couldn't tell ya... seemed like a good idea it the time.

Why are you laughing at me? It's unkind, as well as puzzling!
