Anyone else pick it up?
I like Niles' work, and this is better than the Creeper stuff.

I flipped through it at the comic book shop. I wasn't grabbed by it, so I didn't grab it to buy.

Seems kinda like a DC version of the Crow. Anyone know if it's more than that?

He's suppose to be a frankenstein-ian type character. Some of his inner dialouge hints at that. But I think the Crow reference is a good one. I won't spoil the story, but he's not the average DC hero.

Did anyone else pick this up?
Best first issue of a new series/new concept that DC has put out in a while. You feel sorry for this guy and are totally creeped out by him at the same time. Interesting artwork. Intelligent writing. Mysterious and scary. I'll be back for the second issue.

I liked the second issue, CJ. Great cover and intro splash page. I loved the way Simon's shooting was portrayed on page 5. Kind of old school, but with a fresh feel too. Of all the classic horror stories, Frankenstein's montster resonates the most with me. I think it's that dual feeling of fearing the creature and feeling completely sorry for him at the same time. That aspect is already coming through for Simon Dark. The Gotham setting, his kind of goth look, and making him 17 or 18 years old, are nice elements that make the story fresh. Nice tight script. This book deserves to do well. I hope it does.

It certainly has that Nile's creepy feel. The art fits it well, really making it a modern day gothic tale. The interplay between the cop and the coroner is nice bit of banter to break the mood.
Here's hoping it lasts...

Number three was the best issue yet. A few fun lines:
"What's the saw doing out?";
"We need to concentrate on Eddie the Machete, THEN we can worry about weird kids running around in the snow cutting people's heads off. It's a matter of priority, you see.";
and
"No, I don't want to follow my hot coffee with hot sex."
The eyeball scene was pretty creepy.
I'm still liking the art. The previews make it look like Rachel might get killed soon, but I'm anticipating some bizarre twist.

Jerry, the humour in the book I think really does it credit. This isn't just another macabre tale- Simon is intriguing, his cast mates are entertaining, the story holds my interest.
The eye thing is creepy, and I can't wait to learn more of the story there.

Issue # 5 was released today. The dead friend didn't turn out to be Rachel after all. Simon certainly is developing an interesting supporting cast, and the dark humor works so well.
It's looking like we may the only two fans, CJ? What a shame.

The dead friend really got to me. Something else else about it made me feel for Simon. And the resulting tug of war between Simon and the detective made me laugh.
Just remember Jerry, when this book does become the break out hit, you and I were there fromt he beginning

My brother's been off and on with it, but it didn't seem to get my full attnetion, though it seemed unique for Gotham. I estimate it won't do well, so Batman will have to make appearances, then it might tank.
Or, it could end, but spur a new series!
Gotham! Sort of a Brave and the Bold for Gotham City characters. Perhaps even featuring Anarky!...
Sorry...Wishful thinking...

Well we have another new issue out. It's about to get real trippy. This issue closed with a big denouement with the bad guy, ala' one of the MAtrix movies.
There's been a little Lovecraftian influence, and Niles has hinted at more in the upcoming chapters. Let's see if he handles it well.

I just finished issue #13. Simon Dark remains a bright spot in the DC universe. The issues make it out on time. The art and story are solid issue after issue. The characters are interesesting. So far Simon has manged to remain free of the comic events that weigh down so many modern books. Yes, the book is set in Gotham. We've made it a full year with no Batman. It feels like it is set in its own strange little world.

Whenever solicits come out, I get worried I'm going to see "Final Issue." But with a second trade coming out, it sounds like Simon be stick around a little longer.
It really is an engaging personal drama, with a bit of creepy thrown in.

Well the March issue is the last one. That's a shame, because this book has been a quirky title in the drama that is DC.
This is really me voicing my wish IDW swoops in and saves it like they did Fallen Angel.

The end is here. Simon's final issue was the antithesis of the final issue of the Legion of Super-Heroes. The creative team that had remained in tact for the entire run gave us a touching and sentimental send off. Reading the series as a whole it feels as if it could have been planned as an 18 issue mini series. You get the introduction, the set up, the pay off, the wind down and a sweet farewell. There was never a dip in quality. I'll miss Simon and his supporting cast.

I'm with you Jerry. This was a great run, reading very much like a complete story.
The cat was a touching moment, Simon and his family was almost endearing, and the anti-Simon had the creepy feeling I first got from Simon himself.
Ah well...
