The Little Archie and Owly/Korgi books jump out to me.
DC's JLA #0 jumps out as well, but not in a good way. Not sure why they went with this.

Surprised to see Dark Horse as a Gold sponsor, but maybe they were last year too.
Fantagraphics Unseen Peanuts is one I'll look for. Also Amelia Rules (Renaissance) and Love & Capes (Maerkle). Also First Second's The Train was Bang on TIme book and the Toronto Comics Festival book (Darwyn Cooke back cover & story). Two Morrows History Lessons from the Pros and Impact University might be interesting, although they're probably more aimed at people who want to create comics.

There's no comic shop up here, so no FCBD swag for me.

Free Day RAWKS!!
Before I'd always go the following week and only get what little dregs remained.
not this year-- I went today and it was hella-AWESOME! I was surprised by the amount of freebies!
Freebies I got:
2 issues of BONGO FREE FOR ALL (I'm assuming last year's and the 2007 edition).
LITTLE ARCHIE
ARCHIE'S ANNIVERSARY BASH
LOVE AND CAPES
FAMILY GUY/HACK-SLASH flip book
ASTOUNDING WOLF-MAN
UNSEEN PEANUTS
LSH31C (I'd already bought one, but I'll put this one in the waiting room at work).
Plus 20% off TPB's so I got Walking Dead vol. 2 & the second vol. of the 70s JSA reprints. YAY!!!!

Yah big sale at the big comic shop downtown. I didn't get anything other than what i was going to buy last wednesday but the store was jammed.
I didn't stay for the signing though. They must have had a good year. Each person was allowed 10 FCBD books this year. Then I went to the arty comic store uptown (you know the one where all the girls with all the piercings hang out) and picked up the Comics Festival book as well as a couple of the weird indy books. They also had lots of Free Scott Pilgrim which I regrettably missed last year. There was a big signing there too. Lots of artists in the Toronto area.

It was pretty cool this year, even saw a few kids there. The local store had a Robert Kirkman signing, and a herd of us went. There's plenty of fun to be had wandering around a large comic book store for a couple of hours with friends.
And then Kirkman signed my Walking Dead trade, doodling a zombie inside. Throw in a visit with a couple of Legion Worlders, and it was a fun day.
Just spouting off.

Here might be a good place to discuss the freebie issues you got!
I **loved** the Unseen Peanuts issue. Very informative. I personally thought Charlotte Braun was amusing, but oh well.
Love & Capes packed a LOT of story into 1 issue. He uses an 8-panel grid on most pages, which offers a lot more storyspace than in a regular comic. And I dug the see-thru word-balloons! I will have to check out the other issues.
Astounding Wolf-Man interested me enough to warrant a buy of issue 2.
The Bongo stuff is always fun. (Archie: Disassembled... heh heh!) I still buy FUTURAMA.
Family Guy was really hilarious in comic form!! Funnier than the TV show even. The Hack/Slash story was VERY creepy...
Little Archie and Archie's 65th Anniversary... standard Archie fare (which I love). If comics weren't $3 I'd probably be buying Archie stuff every month.

What I snagged:
Archie Comics Little Archie 2007 Dark Horse Comics Umbrella Academy Zero Killer Pantheon City 2007 DC Comics Legion of Super Heroes in the 31st Century 2007 Dynamite Entertainment The Lone Ranger / New Battlestar Galactica Flip Book 2007 Gemstone Publishing Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse 2007 TOKYOPOP Tokyopop Choose Your Weapon 2007 Ape Entertainment Ape Entertainment's Comic Spectacular 2007 Fantagraphics Books The Unseen Peanuts 2007 First Second Books The Train Was Bang On Time 2007 Keenspot Entertainment Keenspot Spotlight 2007 Maerkle Press Love and Capes # 4 2007 Renaissance Press Amelia Rules! Hangin' Out 2007 Topshelf Productions Owly & Korgi 2007 Virgin Comics Ramayan 3392AD 2007
The other books either didn't interest me or weren't at the shops. Still working my way through them all, but I thought the Amelia Rules and Love and Capes issues were fun.
Business wasn't too brisk from what I could see. It rained quite a bit yesterday, so maybe that had an effect. Or maybe everybody was watching the Kentucky Derby.
Very little advertising as well. Three shops in the area did pool their resources for an ad, though. A store about an hour plus from me had some guests: Billy Tucci, Steve Conley, John Gallagher and Frank Cho. But if you weren't a regular shopper or on their mailing list, you wouldn't have heard about it.

And here's a pic of Kirkman actually drawing the zombie for CJ. I'll let CJ tell you which one of the gang standing around the table is him. And I'll post some more images later when I can, including one of me since I promised CJ I would.

Oh, what the hell. Here's one of us standing in line with me doing my best zombie expression. Actually I'm trying not to pass out since I messed up my knee on the drive to Denver.

Did anybody check out Dark Horse's Umbrella Academy, written by My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way? I really wanted to check that out, along with Kirkman's Astounding Wolfman. I couldn't get out to the CBS, unfortunately...

Here's the Kirkman zombie sketch and sig from the trade he signed for me. And this is a birthday present I received in the mail today from my Faraway friend Darden . A sketch by Walking Dead artist Charlie Adlard. Darden got this for me at the Bristol Comic Con and it fits nicely with my FCBD acquisitions.

Wolfman was good, but didn't have that immediate wow factor I was expecting. Umbrella Academy was a fun, quirky book. My friends didn't like it, but I enjoyed it's riff on the X-men. Good satircal work there.

WOOHOO! DCBS sent me some unexpected FCBD goodies with my shipment this week! No Wolfman, but I got Umbrella Academy! I liked it, and loved James Jean's cover.
