Not for me. I must say I dropped it with issue 4(not my cup of tea!)...

Will you buy the new Legion title?

I wonder how many times did John Byrne work on the Legion Characters? I remember the Superman/Superboy cross-over, Generations III, a drawing in the 1st archives...anything else?

Baxter #36.

He also used the Legion analogs to the FF-- Blok, InvisiJacques, Brainy and Sun Boy-- in Superman 8 and Action 591, the two chapters he did for the Death of Superboy.

And DC should be wary of guaranteeing anything if they can't find a way to muzzle Byrne. Every time he opens his mouth it's another opportunity to drive away buyers.

The way I see it, Byrne keeps his political and social views largely out of his stories. As a fan that's all I care about. I'm more concerned about the views of people who can really affect people's lives, such as the politicians running for election next month.

This is great news!

I love the new Doom Patrol!

And I agree with Rod. Byrne can say whatever the hell he likes, as long as the Doom Patrol continues to be half decent I'm there.

I'm just not willing to put money in his pockets, whether his views are represented in his work or not. It seems hypocritical to pay the man's livelihood-- you're basically telling it's okay to run his mouth because you like his art.

But I guess anyone who'd sell their vote in a national election to get people to support Doom Patrol has pretty skewed priorities anyway.

Sorry, I dropped this one too. Byrne's stuff just seems irrelevant lately.

Pov, just to point out, even if Byrne never makes one more dime from comic books, he would still comment freely on such things. And vice versa; even if he never again comments on society and politics, there are those who still would not buy his comics.

Cool.

I think my biggest problem with Byrne is this-- even though his views may not be blatantly stamped on his creative output, he's using the fanbase to sound off on things he's got no business going off on. And he's built this cliquish little corner of the internet for himself that allows for no serious debate. Anybody who dares disagree with him is a troll, and his little fanboys jump all over themselves to kiss his keister and defend him. His comments wouldn't rankle except for those same fans giving them any merit.

I was a big fan of his. So I guess my response to all of this NOW is akin to an ex-smoker's vehemence against smoking. NObody hates smoking as much as an ex-smoker. lol

Cool - I never noticed the correlation between the Legionniares in that issue and the FF.

My big problem with this new Doom Patrol is the fact they delete all the prior continuity... The Arcudi version was bad enough, but while I do like Byrne and his take on Doom Patrol so far, I still wish they didn't erase continuity... :-(

I noticed it primarily because JB used the same cover layout for Superman 8 that he'd used for FF 249, which showed Gladiator of the Imperial Guard holding the Thing aloft and a stretched out Reed by his shirt, with Sue and Johnny strewn about.

Byrne's fond of reusing cover layouts... he also did a version of this one on his first issue of ACTION, with Supes and the Titans. And he's done so many different covers based on Fantastic Four #1 that he's taken to numbering them.

BTW, two reviews for Doom Patrol #5 have already come out:

"Another issue of Doom Patrol has arrived, and Byrne is firing on all cylinders here. I get the feeling that he is having a lot of fun with this title."

DP was conspicuously absent from the DC full-line discussion panel-- no mentions, no previews. But we WERE shown an upcoming DEMON cover, with the announcement JB will be illustrating a mini. I suppose it's possible for Byrne to write and draw DP while just illustrating DEMON, but find it illuminating that DC made no mention of the book... especially after "guaranteeing" a second year.

Byrne is working on both Doom Patrol and the ongoing (not mini!) Blood of the Demon. He's plotting and pencilling the Demon, Will Pfiefer (HERO, Aquaman) will be doing the dialogue.

Here's a sneak peek from BoTD #4:
