I got this idea from something Stealth said in the MMB.

So, I thought it would be interesting to talk about this... the question is, when you read a comic, what (Celebrity/ personal / or other) voices do you hear in your head whenever characters speak?

Here's a few for me-

Spider-Man: I always hear that fantastic voice actor from "Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends" talking.

Light Lass: Stephanie D'Abruzzo, from Avenue Q.

Rogue: Claire Danes, with a slight southern accent.

Superman: Christopher Reeve

Dr. Doom: Daniel Day-Lewis

Batman: Kevin Conroy

Lyta Hall: Daryl Hannah

Mary Jane Watson: Julia Roberts

I also hear the old Darkseid, from Super-Friends whenever he talks.

Ted Cord: Matthew Perry

Booster Gold: Dirk Benedict

I'm sure I'll think of some others. smile

Many of mine are cartoon-influenced...

Reed Richards -- Gerald Mohr
Sue Richards -- Jo Ann Pflug
Ben Grimm -- Paul Frees
The Watcher -- Paul Frees
Galactus -- Ted Cassidy
Peter Parker, Spider-Man, Betty Brant, JJJ -- the actors from the 1967 cartoons
James Bond (Titan Books newspaper strip reprints) -- Guy Doleman (to me, that's who the artists' rendition of him most resembles!)
James Bond (novels) -- Timothy Dalton

As I said in the Random thread, Shannon Farnon's voice will always be the definitive Wonder Woman voice for me.

I don't know if I had a particular actress in mind, but the voice of Phantom Girl in the animated Legion isn't quite what I expected she's sound like. I guess I always imagined her having a deeper voice. Saturn Girl on the other hand is about spot on.

The Hulk is totally Gregg Berger, doing different voices for each aspect of the character -- the savage green Hulk sounds to me like Grimlock from Transformers; the thuggish gray Hulk sounds like Long Haul, also from Transformers; the intelligent merged Hulk sounds like Skyfire, yet another Transformers character, as does Bruce Banner, only more soft-spoken, the way Skyfire was in the first episode he appeared.

Jarvis sounds to me like Paul Eiding, Perceptor from, you guessed it, Transformers.

Quicksilver sounds to me like Corey Burton, Tomax from G.I. Joe.

And here's the ones I already mentioned in the Random thread:

Wasp: Mary McDonald Lewis (Lady Jaye from G.I. Joe)

Ms. Marvel: B.J. Ward (Scarlett from G.I. Joe)

Giant-Man: Frank Welker (his "Fred Jones" voice)

Ultron: Frank Welker (his "Galvatron" voice)

Vision: Arthur Burghardt (Devastator from Transformers, Destro from G.I. Joe)

Scarlet Witch: Marlene Aragon (Elita-One from Transformers and Synergy from Jem)

wow good question. For me I don't think of anyone in particular. But I do have different tones in my head for each charater. Batman, Superman have deeper voices but completely different tones, Spider-Man sounds like a young man, etc.

I don't hear anyone. Not even the voices that played a character on a cartoon or in live-action.

Interesting topic. I never really gave this much thought so I'll have to pay attention the next time I'm reading an issue but I honestly think, like Miner, that I don't hear anyone either.

gasp

Does that mean I'm Comic Book Reading Challenged?

It should be noted that, if you hear voices in your head, urgent medical advice should be sought immediately <g>

Seriously, I'm like Miner in this regard - almost every time, I don't get any specific "voice" to accompany the words I'm reading. smile

I actually find it incredibly difficult to replicate other peoples voices in my mind, so I would guess they all sound like me.

The voices are telling me that I'm not supposed to talk about the voices.

But Dr. Doom has always been voiced by James Earl Jones, in my head.

Wolverine has always been voiced by Daffy Duck. (I have to make my own fun. His lines are always so terrible.)

I sure as hell don't hear the voices of the cartoon characters. The Teen Titan Starfire, in particular, sounds nothing like the comic character should sound, IMO. She should have a voice that sounds like sex doused in sugary butter. If it was on fire.

Here's a couple more, from the X-Books: Shatterstar sounds to me like Michael Bell (Lance from Voltron), and the Beast sounds to me like Mike McConnohie (Tracks from Transformers.)

I don't tend to either, though it's an excellent thought to come up with a list.

Since I went on a Star Wars DVD watching marathon I do find I replicate the voices when I read the novels and it adds to the experience. Fortunately, I've not read any novels with Jar Jar or I may have to give up reading.

I don't know the name of the actor who did Dr. Doom in the 1967 cartoons, but that's always been how Doom sounds to me. I saw those cartoons a few years ago for the first time in ages, and was reminded of how he sounded... and then I realized there was a recent character whose voice was somewhat similar-- Garak on DS9. So now, I think of Andy Robinson as Doom!

Similarly, I re-read the entire Don Heck run of IRON MAN (in TALES OF SUSPENSE) while watching reruns of WINGS. So now, I think of Amy Yasbeck ("Casey Chapell") whenever I read Pepper Potts!

Hawkeye sounds to me like Neil Ross (Shipwreck from G.I. Joe)

The Supreme Intelligence sounds to me like Frank Welker (his "Darkseid" voice)

I've never really thought of who would be a good voice for a character but, since reading this thread, here are some ideas I've came up with:
J'onn J'onnz (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) = James Earl Jones
Doctor Doom = Christopher Lee
Batman = Gregory Peck
Superman = Christopher Reeve
Ben Grimm = Ernest Borgnine
Wolverine = Kurt Russell (as Snake Plisken - WAAAY over the top macho, posturing, bullshit)
Doctor Strange = Adam West (I know he IS batman but his pompous over earnest delivery, I feel, fit's Doctor Stange better)

I'll post some more as I think of them

The five core Green Lanterns:

HAL: Neil Ross (Springer on Transformers)

JOHN: Arthur Burghardt (Stalker on G.I. Joe)

KILOWOG: John Stephenson (Thundercracker on Transformers)

KYLE: Ted Schwartz (Spider-Man in the syndicated early 80s Spidey toon -- NOT Amazing Friends, that was on NBC!)

GUY: Bill Callaway (Beach Head on G.I. Joe, not with the drawl, but with the same hardass attitude)

Cleome, LOL!

I edited my above post about the five core Green Lanterns, because most of the actors are known for many different voices they've done, and I wanted to specify which of their characters the Lanterns most sound like. I'd particularly like to know what Hal fans think of him sounding like Springer from Transformers.)
