I used to read the Amazing Spiderman title as well as Peter Parker: Spiderman, but then I stopped... and now things have changed quite a bit... despite this I can't shake the feeling that I want to get some Spidey titles, for old times sake and such... probably will wait till the Civil War stuff dies down a bit, but anyway... any suggestions on which titles are better, which I should add to my pull list and such?

Cobie is our resident Spidey expert. He'll most likely be along soon with some great suggestions.

I suggest picking up Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. It's the only Spidey-title I collect regularly at the moment and it rocks!

Some thoughts:

Amazing Spider-Man - this is *okay*. Personally, I'm not liking the title at all, although there are some good moments. However, JMS seems to not get Spidey, his cast or what the series should feel like, and its too involved with Civil War.

Sensational Spider-Man - this title has actually gotten a little better recently, and can be fun. I have to say thought that it isn't quite the best written comic on the market and there are more than a few continuity mistakes. The art is a little sloppy too.

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man - After what I thought was a pretty week start, recent issues have been enjoyable, with good character scenes, lots of action and good stories. Peter David is definately a writer who builts up steam, and you can see this happening here. I'd definately reccomend this one.

What all three of these suffer from however, is the terrible decision-making on where Spider-Man's life is shifting too via Civil War, awful costume, and the apparent reality that none of Marvel's higher-up editorially staff have read a Spider-Man comic since 1984.

There's also:

Ultimate Spider-Man - this is very fun and very well written, although the last six issues or so are very inaccessible to new readers. It also has the different continuity and that could be annoying to some (it took me a while to accept that).

Good luck! Spider-Man remains, IMO, the best comic book character of them all!

Sorry for bringing up and old thread, but I just had to say this... Though it took me longer than expected I finally got an issue of Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman (#17... yeah I figured w/ the whole back in black it'd be a good place to start), anyway I was really impressed.

Peter David is definitley doing a good job, and I'm looking forward to reading this. I like the whole on the run thing. Peter's life was getting way to settled duing the Makie and JMS run back at the turn of the century, when I used to read Amazing and Peter Parker (granter MJ "died" back then, but even so that spiderman lacked the darker edge he needed, only during the Return of the Goblin did it really shine IMO...)

And so, I'm back to reading Spidey... ahh good times.
