SPOILERS FOLLOW, of course.

I was never a huge fan of Donna's "Titans of Myth" origin, but whatever it takes to bring her back, I guess.

The Garcia-Lopez/Perez art is truly lovely to behold, and the new DC logo kicks space-ass!

I *do* hope the starry-hair isn't permanent, it looks weird.

And another OUTSIDERS appearance? YAY! I love the Outsiders.

*sigh* I'd even be willing to have DC re-instate LILITH'S Titans of Myth origins if it would bring HER back, but she doesn't make an appearance in # 1. A shame.

I enjoyed the issue as well and the story makes sense, at least so far.

I agree that I would like to see Lilith return to the fold as well. That doesn't seem likely at this point.

I didn't think it was too bad. Alot of people over at the GLA Yahoo Group have been complaining about both the story and the art, but I didn't mind either. And like Lash, I would be willing to accept almost anything to bring Donna back.

Now if we could just find a way to retcon out that whole Graduation Day crapfest... smile

I *liked* this issue-- I thought the depictions of the Titans (of Myth!- snicker-) was stunning, as was the setting of New Chronus.

I enjoyed the Donna-into-Troia story... not so much what happened immediately after in TEAM TITANS and elsewhere.

I bet Donna's gonna use Titan-of-Myth related superpowers when she 'returns' to Earth. Maybe the stars-in-her-hair could appear when she does?

I *much* prefer the Titans-of-Myth story than the reflection-from-a-mirror bit. They're both going to remain part of the character, I think... but as a fount for stories in the character's future, the first has infinitely more potential.

With Thia around, maybe LILITH *will* appear. I'd be glad-- I thought it was odd that Donna didn't remember *her* at all in the numerous flashbacks. Or Garth, for that matter. What's up with that?

Hey, you got JG-L on the art, you aint doin bad atoll, lol. Seriously, he was the artist when i first started reading WW as a kid. His WW was a sexy, mature without being old beauty. I gotta say that i think George's inks are a little heavy for him. Not a lot, but you loose a bit of his grace and beauty. Still, the two EZ's did a bangup job on the book, and even their slightly too me off work is still much better than 98 percent of the junk out there.

The story seemed to suffer a small amount from exposition syndrome, but you have to expect that with what they are trying to do, which is restore a character that has been screwed with for a couple of decades now, so i don't hold it against them.

As a whole, i loved it.

Now we just need a great writer/artist combo to bring back Lilith and I can flush away the dregs of that craptacular thing called GD.

If I never see Winnick on another DC book again, it will be an infinity too soon.

I'm a HUGE Titans fan from way back and so was eagerly looking forward to this mini (though I would have much preferred it be called 'The Return of Lilith Clay') but... WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!!

Could the story have been any more boring?!? It was so dull I got to a point where I just started skimming through the dialogue in order to get to the end faster. And that's something I have NEVER done when reading a comic before in my life!

Endless explanatory dialogue; boring flashbacks to an origin that was never very good in the first place; strange reworkings of the Titans of Myth's looks and personalities, next to no plot; a grafted on fight scene with non-existent excitement or tension; a weak, abrupt ending... the problems are endless.

The one saving grace was the BEAUTIFUL art and colouring. JLGL and Perez are comics gods IMO so it was fantastic to see them working on a book together. I can't see why anyone would find criticism with this aspect of the book. But that story... UGH!

No wonder Donna Troy's never been one of my favourite Titans when all the stories that she plays a main role in are so BAD - 'Who is Wonder Girl?', 'Who is Troia?', 'Total Chaos', 'Graduation Day' and now 'The Return of Donna Troy'.

Thank goodness for 'Who is Donna Troy' and her wedding issue otherwise she'd probably be down at Risk, Argent and Jesse Quick levels in terms of my favourite Titans.

only one issue make you disappointed? what about issue 2-5? if it improves, how will it make you feel? Judging from what you stated, sounds like that you won't buy issue 2 - if you do, then you would still be disappointed?

as for me, I am still reserving my opinion until I get all 5 issues to make the final opinion.

I think if the first issue of something is as badly written as I thought this one was then that's certainly a good guage of how likely the rest of the series will be to entertain me.

But you're right superboymddjr - I shouldn't judge a whole mini on one issue and certainly hope it does improve, especially since the Titans completist in me means that I unfortunately will be buying the rest of it. frown

i pretty much enjoyed this first issue, so far !! i'm glad that we get to see the TITANS of MYTH again !!

the rebooted origin of Donna after "Crisis" was always a favourite of mine, and i thought it was cool way to have Donna retain her god like origin !!

i hated the John Byrne reboot, and thought there was no point to it at all, i hope Donna remains with her TITANS of MYTH background .....

I prefer the original "saved from a burning building, raised on Paradise Island" origin myself.

Why they couldn't have retconned Hippolyta into Diana's place as Donna's saviour is beyond me, especially once Byrne retconned Hipps into the Golden-Age JSA as a Wonder Woman.

Doubtful. To much licensing tied up in it. Besides, the world knows who is wonder woman, even if they don't know her "secret identity".

Cant believe that Whedon is gonna ditch the costume. Bad move i think. It's part and parcel of who and what she is. The Ultimate pinup that can easily kick yer ass.

Damn, what if they could have gotten Betty Page in her heyday as WW. She did a lot of bondage stuff back then, lol.

I'm a bit middling on the first issue. I liked it, but it didn't blow me away. As with Jimenez's other stints on writing he seems to suffer badly from not having an editor who will sit down with him and let him know that he really needs to cut about half of the text that he has. He tries to fit too much in into too small a space. He's not the only writer like that, but he seems to get a bit bogged down in his own ideas and can't quite work them out properly. This issue has some really nice ideas, and I like a lot of the characterisation but the huge amounts of exposition really aren't needed. Sure Donna's origin is complicated but even with the plot as it appears they could have left a lot of the explanation out and made it simpler. Almost take it so that you're introducing a sort of new character and go from there. Ignore a lot of the back story if needs be. There was certainly a lot in there that if you didn't know her multiple origins would have left you scratching your head, and if you did know would have left you wondering why they included it in the first place.

The art is nice, although I agree that in places Perez's inks were a little heavy. All three of the EZs have a simliar art style, which is probably a good thing, but I do find the over use of very fine detail kinda bogs the art down occassionally. I don't know who did the redesigns (I suspect from the look of it all that all three had a hand in it) but a few of the characters are a bit fussy for my taste and need some streamlining.

Over all though not the horrendous read that some people feel it was, but not absolutely great either. I'll almost certainly be getting the rest fo the mini, but I do hope it develops rather than becomes even more bogged down in detail (both in the writing and the art).

as stories i've had to suffer through since the brilliant "Who Is Donna Troy?" (notably "No, Who The $#@& Is Donna Troy" and the John Byrne screaming excrement edition of "Oh that's right, she's actually Wonder Woman's mirror image accidentally magicked to life and cursed by a sorceress to be continually reincarnated in life after $%*&$% life") this WAS NOT THAT BAD.

Um, I'm embarrassed to ask, but... shocked

Am I missing a page?! What the hell happened? On the next-to-last page, we've got Donna and Athyns fighting, and "KA-KOOM!" ...then the last page jumps to a shimmery globe that sounds like Donna approaching Earth, finding what appears to be Outsiders HQ and is contained by Shift? confused

I had little problem with PJ's wordiness throughout, but when we NEEDED some exposition, he dropped the ball. He really lost me with that last page... it came out of nowhere. frown

Same for me...story's a bit on the "meh!" said from this 1st issue, with the art being the positive that kept me onboard. I also agree with the voluminous exposition. Methinks Phil needs to work under someone like Geoff Johns who has a keen sense of what needs to be included and what doesn't. Jimenez just has too much to say and when he says it, there's hardly enough meat.

I've been really looking forward to Donna's return for quite some time. (They've been hinting at it for months and months in Teen Titans through Cassie's cnversations with Ares and his solo musings)

This was dreck of the first order!

When last we saw Donna, she had been killed in Graduation Day, only to reawaken on what appeared to be another world or another time. She hears the sounds of battle in the distance and, realizing that this is her role, dons her armor, picks up her spear and shield and goes running off to battle.

Now, we're supposed to believe she's been living the pampered life a Titan (goddess) all this time.

Makes no sense!

I'm with Pov in that at LEAST one page of story seems to be missing. Actually, it feels like maybe 10-12 are!

Not Meh....Bleh!!!!!!! frown

The way I look at it, if it returns Donna to the DCU with basically the same powers as before, then I'm willing to overlook almost anything. Killing her was a bad move in the first place, so if this mini is gonna get her back to Earth then I can live with it smile

Given that they clearly gave Donna an out to return at the end of G-Day, I'm wondering if this hadn't always been the plan.

Phil really should concentrate on pencilling over writing, but conversely it's nice to have a comic you can't possibly read through in 8 minutes or less..

What's so stupid is, this whole thing was SO PLANNED IN ADVANCE. Donna was never intended to be offed forever, and everyone knew it, so maybe that makes this miniseries seem a bit "Okay, whatever, just hurry up and get her back into the DCU". I personally would add a "And don't forget to bring back Lilith too!" to that, though it seems unlikely. Perhaps we should all bury Geoff Johns in Lilith-requests until he gives in to our fanboy demands! I think he would, you know, if we united together.

Anyhoo, back to Donna... *yawn* wink

Her powers pre-lamely-killed-by-Superman-robot were similar to Wonder Woman's with the addition of an "evil-destroying/hurting" touch
and a vague ability that made it very difficult for people to lie to her (see THE TITANS 1-50... *if* you dare...).
