So, I'm rereading the series, because I love all things cosmic. I'm only through issue fourteen so far, but I did not remember Q being so whiny. Wow. Sometimes I prefer my memories of greatness to the harsh light of the truth. Steve Lighte doing a cover though was a pleasant surprise...Hopefully Q get tougher soon...

thor2168, i totally agree. Very cool series but I thought Q was going to come out of the closet with Makkari as his boyfriend sometimes. smile

And now he's alone with Living Lightning is a space station. LL came out not long ago? hmmm?

But yeah the long haired hippy Q was introspective which I liked but too much of a nice guy at times. Very whiny. I remember he WAS a bit stubborn before in his few appearances.

Give him a haircut and some thing to get mad at.

There's still that dangling plotline where he absorbed Ego the Living Planet right? Isn't that why he exiled himself off earth? In his recent appearances it doesn't seem to affect him anymore. (I wouldn't mind if they explain he found a way to take care of it off panel)

I wasn't very familiar with the character before he got his own series, and I was dropping most of my Marvel titles anyway around the time it was cancelled (so I don't know much about what happened to him afterwards), but ...

One of the things I liked about the book, for its first couple of years, was Quasar's politeness. It was refreshing to see a hero who tried to think through a problem instead of just wading in with fists flying, and, when a problem involved other sentients, to always try to resolve it through negotiation. I don't think it was a coincidence that the overall writing quality of the book started declining around the same time Quasar started developing an "attitude".

"Gee, Brainy, what do you want to do tonight?"
"The same thing we do every night, Bouncing Boy: try to take over the United Planets!!"
They're B.B. and The Brain ...

BRM, yeah. I was kidding when I said he needed an attitude. It was cool to see a considerate hero. Still I liked to see him cut loose on occassion. smile

Well, I was sucessful in reading zero issues this weekend, but did start the new Dart Vader Star Wars book. So Quasar might have to wait a couple of weeks. I did really like this book though back in the day. I think his politeness came from his "lack of the killer instinct". Which is cool. I think things need to get back to a lighter funner (not a word I know) time. I read comics to get away from reality not see more of it!

I just liked the fact it was a fun book.

It didn't beat you over the head with gags, but it was still a fun book.

And they weren't always so ... dark and gritty.

I think I attribute a lot of that to the writers.

One of the funniest things was still "Burried Alien". laugh

Also I have to say at the height of nineties sale figures this may have been the most popular book with girls (maybe after X-Men). I knew quite a few girls who somehow read Quasar...and that was the only comic they read!
