I *know* there're JSA fans on these boards, yet it doesn't seem to be the subject of much discussion.
What do y'all think of recent developments with Sand, the Hourmen, the Atom-Smasher and Per Degaton?
Anyone looking forward to the upcoming JSA/JSA time-travel team-up?
Who are your favorite JSA members, villains, battles?
What would you like to see in stories in future issues of JSA?
Todd

I like Sand, he's probably my favourite JSAer. I'd rather see him take a more active role, but Johns does a great job of mixing the cast up.
As for the Hourmen... I've never been intrigued by any of them. I did enjoy reading the storyarc, but I'm looking forward to what's ahead now.
Atom Smasher, Jakeem Thunder, and Degaton are really hooking me. This is why JSA is a great selling title. The story builds, gathering interest, then realy rawks!
Personally, I'd like to see the old guard retire and the newbies really step into their roles. More of Roulette working the team, and Icile and his crew coming back. As well as an ongoing, unbeatable threat for the team to ward.
Just spouting off.

My favorite JSAers are Alan Scott and Jay Garrick and I like the fact that Johns has kept a mix of older and newer characters. Not to mention doing a lot to restore the Infinity, Inc. characters. I think it's that mix that has helped make the book so successful.
I'm definitely looking forward to the JSA/JSA story arc.

Geoff Johns is a hero for doing so much good for the JUSTICE SOCIETY.
Once a team that DC was ashamed of... ASHAMED OF... can you imagine in your darkest nightmare DC being ashamed of the Justice Society? They were.
Now we're barrelling ever-closer to issue 100.
Bless you too, Geoff Johns, for restoring so many of the Infinity Inc characters that were peed on by other creators. I like to think Roy Thomas adores you.

Zero Hour is as close as I've yet come to ditching DC entirely. Mike Carlin never got the appeal of older characters. I like to think Roy Thomas adores you. I don't think Thomas reads the book. He seems incapable of letting go.

Right now, JSA seems to be hitting all strides. I admit I dumped the book over what I considered to be an overhyped and substance-lacking "Princes of Darkness". Yet I found myself reading again for the Black Adam story and I've been hooked ever since. And Johns does a great job of managing a large cast of characters. No one seems to disapear for too long (except Jakeem, but that's fine by me).
JSA is what the JLA should be - a grand tour of the DCU and its history. This is where you can not only find the Golden Age heroes, but elements of the Marvel (as in Captain) Universe, the 30th century (Mordru), Teen Titans (Extant & Dove), as well as JLA (Atom, Hawkman, Hal, etc.). After Mr. Mind's appearance you get the feeling that just about anyone from anywhere could show up and it would feel just right!
My only problem with the writing is that most of the difficulties the JSA face are caused from internal problems. We just spent two issues ironing out the Hourman problem. Before that we spent two issues ironing out the Sand problem. The Black Adam story began as an internal issue. Now we are going to be visiting the JSA of the past. After that we will be spending time catching up on Power Girl's problems. It seems to me that if there were no JSA there'd be alot less problems!

I've not read much of the series. The last thing I read was the Black Adam story that crossed over into Hawkman. I've added it to my list starting with the December issue, a new arc. Has Johns brought back or used Mr. Bones at all? He is my favorite character and I would love to see him get more involved in the DCU in general.

I dumped this book after PRinces Of Darkness (or whatever) because none of the subplots were ever getting resolved. Can someone tell me:
1) WHO is Power Girl? Has she been given a new origin yet?
2) Who is the new Crimson Avenger? Was that ever dealt with?
3) What the flip has happened to Lyta Trevor? A bloke at the comic shop told me she's part of someone's necklace now - that can't be true can it?

also dropped JSA after "princes of darkness" - IMO overhyped and underwhelming thought JSA would be better in trade collections, but these trades are released at glacial paces! JSA turn-ons? Mr. Terrific, Dr. Midnight, Black Adam, Powergirl, Jakeem Thunder, Wildcat, Black Canary, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Starman Jack Knight, Injustice Society, art tends to be good, solid use of DC history the JSA turn-offs? Dr. Fate & Hourman & GL Alan Scott (IMO: 3 boring, stuffy, inconsistently written typical 'american heros', read- straight white men), too large a cast, not enough conflict (and the conflict tends to result from a JSA member's actions, family or incompetence - making it difficult to have sympathy for the hero who has put the others & the public in danger), story arcs where the action & rhythm are interupted at odd points by 'character moments' that stay unresolved I was thrilled at Johns & Co.'s restart of the JSA -- finally an effective turn of the Earth-2 pantheon (a world i especially liked) -- and while it was good for awhile for me, i haven't really missed it hoping the next trades are good

Comet, someone is pulling your leg re: # 3.
Lyta AKA Fury is played an active role in the recent SAND story.

I would like to see Mr Bones as well.. Last I remember him was director for the DEO in the very short lived Chase series.
G Johns has done wonders for this book. I like that he mixes the old and new.
Is everyone out of limbo now?? I really think I have somehow lost count.
Looking for Earth Prime.

Oh dear. I'm in a qunadry now. I find JSA super irritating coz nothing ever get resolved. But I've always liked Fury!
Can someone tell me if we know where Power Girl comes from yet or what the whole Crimson Avenger plot was about?

We still haven't had the Power Girl story but there have been even more hints droped about where she came from. I have a feeling Johns has mentioned something about that being resolved some time this year, but you never know with him...
As to Crimson Avenger, yes we did get her back story in a one shot issue a while back. Ermm.... I can't remember exactly what happened off the top of my head. The guns she has I think are the original Crimson Avenger's and she's kind of cursed to deal out vengance to those that are deemed guilty. She's not very happy about it and has tried to get herself killed but keeps coming back from the dead. Someone else might be able to give a better run down because it was a while ago and I don't have the issue to hand, but I quite liked it as a story. Not a terribly original idea but the way it played out was nice.

I have a feeling Johns has mentioned something about that being resolved some time this year, but you never know with him... Yeah, i heard that he won't be doing her origin story (tentaively titled "Power trip") though till the current "Identity Crisis" deal goin is all wrapped up, aparently? HOWEVER! insaying that though... * * * * P O S S I B L E S P O I L E R A H E A D ! ...i HONESTLY believe that Power Girl will SOMEHOW turn out to be the grown up version of the recent reintroduced Post-birthright Kryptonian originated Supergirl, aka KARA ZOR-EL! Reason for me saying this is beause, i remember reading within a paticular Action Comics saga at time titled "Hearts Lost part 1" (atleast ....i THINK that's what it was titled?) the information that was devulged between an conversation with both Power Girl and Superman reguarding SOME of the things that have NOW within 2004 going ons have ACTUALLY came true it seems are as a result ASWELL as the recently devulged other going ons within "JSA" title are pointing more and more as her being Kara all up! I believe Bones has a cameo in the Kobra/Extant arc of a few years back. But that's about it. Johns seems to have a thing for obscure characters, so you never know if he'll turn up again.

Anyone else enjoying the JSA/JSA time-travel tale?
I was a bit disappointed by the 5-parter's opening, but I really liked the most recent issue. It featured various JSAers encountering/watching their antecedants... Sandman visiting the 'creature in the velvet cage', Starman institutionalized, Atom involved in something shady, Dr. Mid-nite becoming even *more* ambiguous...
As far as advancing the plot, this one didn't- much. Various characters are in place, now... with more in the wings.
But I thorougly enjoyed it-- these issues that *start* to explore character *always* capture my interest. Sometimes my heart.

I decided to jump on with this arc and just read the first issue last night. While it was okay I guess I just don't know these characters well enough to care. I'll stick it out as I have a love of stories where time is changed or altered but...well, is this the regular artist? All of his faces, even the women, look like prize fighters who have had their nose broken. That shot of the team in court with Hawkman standing was some of the ugliest heroes I've ever laid eyes on.
And how old is Star supposed to be? I get the impression she's still in high school but the way she was drawn she looks in her late 30's after a life of working the streets.

The current JSA arc is picking up steam bg-time! I read # 71.... That 2-page spread of both teams at the JSA meeting table was pretty inspiring. For the most part I like the artwork, but can see what Scott is talking about with some of the facial shots. Gibbons does a cool Gil Kane impersonation on that cover.

I'm glad I'm not the ONLY one who feels that way. Honestly, I've liked Courtney since she debuted, but these days, artists seem to forget she's supposed to be high school age. I kinda pictured Melissa Joan Hart would have been about right for her (later-CLARISSA / early SABRINA period). And to think, JSA has to do without Stephen Sadowski because of CRAPOLA like IDENTITY CRISIS ???

Lightning Lad: I didn't care about the characters either, until I read the book. I didnt know it was POSSIBLE to commiserate with Ma Hunkel I'm with ya on the art. I love the JSA, but dear god, Star Girl looks like a damned bare knuckle boxer

I think Don Kramer is the best artist this title has ever had!!!
OK, so sometimes his faces look a little ugly but his attention to detail and panel composition are outstanding and more than make up for it IMO.
I want him on this book for a LONG time!

Where's JERRY ORDWAY when you really need him? (Apart from doing a TOM STRONG story with Michael Moorcock, anyway)
