I've gotten really enamored with the cohesion in the DCU, so much so that I've actually gone and bought all five "prequel" minis plus the tie-ins.
DAY OF VENGEANCE
I guess I'm a sucker for magic-themed comics, plus the idea of Spectre eradicating magic and its "practioners" has reeled me in. Bill Willingham of Fables-fame has not let me down with his snappy dialogue and the art does not disappoint. Ultimately, I'm also eager to see who, if any, becomes the anchor for the Spectre.
OMAC PROJECT
I've been a fan of the JLI for ages! Seeing the inclusion of the JLI members in this series has me stoked. However, I do find that it mirrors the JLA storyline written by Legion scribe Mark Waid where Batman prepares a series of contingency plans to take down members of the JLA should they become unmanageable. Nonetheless, I'm curious to see how Batman gets himself out of this one as well as how the rift among the DCU's pillars (Superman, Wonder Woman & Batman) develops.
VILLAINS UNITED
Ex-Legionnaire Gail Simone cooks up a mean villain stew with this one! I love how the Secret Six are pitted against Luthor's society of super-villains. Does this make them heroes? Overall, Eaglesham's art's great and the action and intrigue behind Mockingbird has me totally hooked.
RANN-THANAGAR WAR
The wonderful Adam Strange mini that segued into this one was suvch a great read. Can't wait to see all-out galactic war ensue. With this one, the appearance of many of the DCU's space-based heroes has delighted me endlessly. Reis' art is likewise stunning to behold, and I can't wait to see how the universe turns upside down with this one.
RETURN OF DONNA TROY
Being a secondary Titans and Outsiders fan (i.e. just got hooked with them since their relaunch in 2003), I can't wait to see what role Troia-Donna plays in the grand scheme of things. It appears that she has a role to play, at least vis-a-vis the Rann-Thanagar War, and I can't wait to see how. I admit though that Jimenez's writing gets stilted at times, but the goodness of Garcia-Lopez & Perez is worth putting up with it.

THE OMAC PROJECT - I'm getting this because it's a direct tie to what happened to Blue Beetle and I'm curious to see where it goes and how Batman's going to deal with it and its repercussions.
RANN - THANAGAR WAR - Green Lantern's my favorite DC hero (Hal) so I like me some space opera. I almost didn't get this because it features Kyle, but the Adam Strange mini changed my mind.
VILLAINS UNITED - interesting premise and I have an affinity for some of the villains there.
I picked up the first issues of "Day of Vengeance" and "Donna Troy", but there are no characters there I'm really a fan of and the stories didn't interest me.
I wonder how the Seven Soldiers minis are doing in relation and if Morrisson might be miffed that his minis are being overshadowed - DC really glutted the market with all these minis...

I agree about Seven Soldiers - I'm enjoying them a lot, but it might have been better if they'd waited a bit.
I ended up picking up issues of each of the minis. Not sure if I'll stay with O.M.A.C. or Villains United, though. They aren't really knocking me out.

I'm currently getting the only 2 minis that werent toally sold out by the time I hit the CBS-- RANN/THANAGAR WAR & DONNA TROY. I'm certainly interested in all of the others, though.
I'm expecting a lightning-fast TPB release for each, and that's probably how I will buy them (unless my CBS comes up with reorders I can snag).
I'll definitely have them pull INFINITE CRISIS for me.

and re: 7 SOLDIERS... I am really interested, but cannot feasibly commit to this massive project. Maybe in a future TPB package.

Against my more rational judgement, I bit on the whole shebang - what was available when I was in the store & ordered the rest - Infinite Crisis and Seven Soldiers, except for Donna Troy, which has really not gotten very good reviews story-wise. It's summer time, I'm looking for that old comics magic, I was feeling sorry for myself that day, and the guy at the CBS did a great selling job. (He also sold me the Captain America TPB, when it comes out. I gotta avoid that kid in the future.)
Of the Infinite Crisis bunch, I liked Villains United best - even though I hardly know any of the characters. Underdog/David against Goliath stories usually entice me. OMAC is interesting as to how it's going to work out but this current version of Batman is not to my liking. The recent blog war re: siding with Rann or Thanagar made that series more fun than it would have been on its own. Day of Vengeance - I like Willingham and it's weird, a good read although a bit stretched out.
I would expect there to be a good supply of the whole series on eBay later - I'd wager that a lot of people are buying it because of all the publicity and curiousity but may not keep the books.

I'm reading 'em all 'cause... I *cough* download my comics. Shhhh... I'm a broke college student, okay???
Well, except the Troia one. I have it but I haven't been able to force myself to read it. I really like the Teen Titans (always have -- ohmigodtehloveofWally) and I like some of the Outsiders... though the series has been rather disappointing. But, yeah. Uninterested about Troia. After Crisis her backstory just got more and more convoluted and this will undoubtedly only serve to make it moreso. (Jaded? Moi? Perish the thought!)
Anyway, I think Villains United and the O.M.A.C. Project are probably my favorites. Just the ideas are really interesting... and Catman makes me giggle. I know, I know... I just can't help it. Also, it's nice to have some sort of conclusion to the Sasha thing (if anybody read Bruce Wayne: Murder/Fugitive, you know what I mean). I always liked her. And Beetle. *sob* God. WHYYYY??? Soooo sad. I liked him.
Also, I don't really understand everything in Day of Vengance. I know the Enchantress but... yeah. I don't know much about the rest. I recognized some but... yeah. Confusion. Jean being Eclipso is really freaky too. I don't know what I think about that. As for the Rann/Thanagar War -- I just can't seem to care that much. I've never really given two shits about Adam Strange or his adventures. I just really like Kyle, which would be why I'm reading it.
Well, that and the fact that I'm incredibly anal and must read everything Infinite-Crisis related. I know, I know. But, honestly, when crossovers happen... I like to read it all. I've been reading JLA and all the tie-ins and... yeah. Lame, I know. But I don't wanna miss anything good! Plus Geoff Johns is writing JLA and his definitely my hero. I worship him in all his powers. *nods*
And that's enough rambling from me! Nobody hate the newbie who doesn't seem to stfu... please??

Well it sure is the summer of the mini series invasion. I am currently reading all the Crisis tie ins. Yeppers. I have been a huge DC fan..heck I learned to read with DC. Been through the changes, at times have really been ticked about the changes. OMAC- very interested to see where this changes relationships. Heck they have even made Booster a serious character again.
Villians United - simply rocks.
Rann-Thanagar War- love the space adventure. Was upset how the Darkstars story ended in Adam Strange but sure am glad the Omega Men, L.E.G.I.O.N. and Captain Comet. Should be intersting to see how this ends.
Day Of Vengence- have missed the magic users of DC. glad to see them get a shot.
Donna Troy- Have been a Titan fan since forever. I just wish they finally give her an origin no one will mess with.
Now I am also reading the Seven Soilders series. I feel they are being left in the shade by the Crisis but they are great issues.
Looking for Earth Prime.

I'm getting them all because they mostly seem interesting. Day of Vengeance is probably on the bottom of my list. I usually like magic-related stories, but this one isn't doing it for me. I think my main interest is to see how things end with the Spectre. Heck, we might all be surprised and find out that Jean Loring, in need of redempion, becomes the new Spectre.
I got Donna Troy because it features Donna Troy, but I confess that the first issue could have been better. I'm holding out hope for the others.
I really do enjoy Villains United, the OMAC Project, and the Rann-Thanagar War. I can't wait to see how these tie into the larger picture.

What am I getting and why? OMAC Project - for Booster! Villains United - for Catman! Rann/Thanagar War - for Adam Strange! (and strangely after reading 2 issues, Kyle Rayner!) Day of Vengeance I'm not getting as I've never really enjoyed the mixing of super and magic (apart from Zatanna ) Donna Troy I'm not getting as if I want bad space opera with mythic overtones and crappy dialogue, I'll watch the new Star Wars flicks... And I'm getting all of Seven Soldiers as Grant Morrison is a genius! A genius I tell you!

Villains United: Just because Gail is writing it. Well, that's why i picked it up initially but I've enjoyed the first two issues a lot so I fell it was a good choice to make.
Day Of Vengence: I wasn't intending to get this at all, even though Fables is one of my top reads every month, but then I saw that Justiano was on the art and I *love* his work, so I had to get it. And again so far it's been a good read.
Return of Donna Troy: Well it's the return on Donna Troy, so it was a bit of a no-brainer. Of the three I'm getting it's the weakest so far, but I shall see how it goes.
The other two I just don't have any interest in. I don't care about IC, and in fact I so don't care about it that it's enough to make me want to drop Flash, Hawkman and JSA because apparently in the coming months that's all they're going to be about (JSA is the only one still on my pull list at the moment).
Seven Soldiers, on the other hand, I'm loving. Zatanna is just... well it's Zatanna and has absolutely gorgeous art and a good (if slightly confusing) story. The other minis are runing along nicely and the ones that haven't started yet sound at the least very interesting. I dropped a whole load of books in the last couple of weeks so the fact I'm getting all the SS minis sort of evens out in the long run expenxe-wise.

Just when I was thinking of cutting back on my comics purchases DC brings out all these great minis and I'm suckered into buying all of them! Seven Soldiers : is FANTASTIC! Have loved every single issue I've read so far and that's saying something because A. each series has a very different vibe and style and that's a hard task for a writer to pull off successfully, and B. I am no fan of Grant Morrison who has been much more miss than hit with me in the past. But I have nothing but for these minis! And the art has been BREATH-TAKING! Omac Project : I am really enjoying. Mainly for the Booster Gold and Rocket Red #4 (please don't die!) appearances but also because Rucka has really swept me up in Sasha Bordeaux's (a character I'd never read before) plight. Not enjoying Batman's character in it though but am hoping he gets brought down a peg or two before its over. Day of Vengeance : has really impressed me. Wasn't sure if I was going to collect it at first but the great art and interesting group of low-tier characters (my favourite kind) pulled me in. Seems like its going to be the funnest of the minis. Villains United : sold out before I could get it. <sniff> And I'd really been looking forward to this one too. Rann-Thanagar War : is OK and I'm loving seeing all these forgotten space characters show up but its been a little (OK a lot) too heavy in the dialogue department and it does just seem to be all explanatory dialogue-fly around shooting-explanatory dialogue-fly around shooting-explanatory dialogue-fly around shooting... so far. We need some down time to learn who these characters are and why we should care about them before they get into any more fighting scenes. I'm also not the biggest Ivan Reis fan in the world but I'll concede he is getting better. The Return of Donna Troy : well it has nice art. That's about the only kind thing I can say about this series. What happened to the Phil Jiminez who wrote that great Tempest mini years ago? He needs to get more writing lessons or else just stick to art IMO. This is definitely the weakest of the bunch. Can't wait for Infinite Crisis. This is probably the most excited I've ever been as a DC fan. It feels like there's a real buzz in the air - like anything might happen. I wasn't around when the first Crisis hit in 1985. Is this what the atmosphere was like then?

I'm getting them all, because I'm an idiot. DoV: I love magic, and this has been fun so far. OMAC: The most-direct continuation of Countdown, and I love conspiracies. Villains United: Gail Simone, badguys, and mysteries. RanThan: I love cosmic space stuff too. See also - LSH. =) J

How about the "fallout" or "tie-in" issues? I've realized I'm buying a boatload of issues of titles I don't normally pick up like Wonder Woman, Super-books (Action, Adventure, Superman), Nightwing (!), JLA (I buy TPs), JSA (I buy TPs for this too).
Part of me's really getting guilty over the expense but another part's just really, really, really drugged on the whole thing...yikes! Here's what I've bought and what I plan to buy so far:

I hit the CBS a week early today and snagged VILLAINS UNITED # 1 and DAY OF VENGEANCE # 1 & 3 (forgot it was Justiniano art! LOVE him!!) Likely second printings, but who cares? No sign whatsoever of any issues of OMAC PROJECT...

These minis have to be selling like hotcakes. I *know* my CBS orders plenty of copies of stuff, they've always been good about it, and the restock of both V.U.and DoV # 1 had already dwindled nearly out. I noticed Donna Troy had totally sold out and that there was a restock of Rann/Thanagar War # 1, meaning it TOO had sold out. Yeeesh!
And with Omac Project being Bat-centric, I figure it's selling best of all.
You're very sweet to offer, Gary, but I'll give my CBS boys a chance to get reorders in. Love those guys!

I'm buying all 4 minis, and I have to say, I'm liking OMAC and Rann/Thanagar War the best. OMAC, as stated above because it is a direct continuation of the Countdown 1 shot, with Booster Gold too! And Rann/Thanagar's sense of "Space Opera" is too much to pass up on... like the appearance of one of the Starman characters... That was a welcome surprise!

I can check around my CBS too, if anyone missed any of these minis, just say the word! They are selling like hotcakes!! Some of them are on a 3rd printing of the first issue already.

Omni, my Villains United # 1 is indeed a third printing. My DoV # 1 was a second. Jeepers!!
Read it and DoV # 1 and 3.
LOVED THEM. ABSOLUTELY. LOVED. THEM! Discussion of them follows so stop now if you haven't read em!
CATMAN is my new favorite villain! What a hunk!! I remember him from the old FREEDOM FIGHTERS series... love Cheshire too. This whole "all-new Secret Society of Super-Villains" (let's just call it what it is, please) is awesome, and I love that these guys no one's ever heard of (well, except for Chesh, Deadshot and Catman) are not giving in. I have ALWAYS hated Dr. Psycho, so I wouldn't have joined them either. I don't like how Fiddler was killed, though. Deadshot was cool as usual.
DAY OF VENGEANCE was awesome too! Who knew RAGMAN was so kewl?!?! I didn't. But I damn sure do now! Always liked Enchantress from the old Suicide Squad and Detective Chimp?!? Hell, YEAH! It RAWKED! Must get issue # 2! Why didn't Justiniano draw # 3? *choke* Well, the other guy was good too, so it's all good. I hate Jean Loring!

The minis do seem to be doing well.
I believe Lash is right when he says O.M.A.C. Project is selling the best. That's the only one my store can't get reorders on, anyway.

Buying really enjoying all four minis (also buying but not really enjoying the Donna Troy one). If someone could help me find a copy of OMAC Project #1 too, I'd be eternally greatful!

I got my "Prelude to Infinite Crisis" TP and, having free time on my hands, this is what I've come up with...an annotation-of-sorts for the contents:
pg. 1. Adventures of Superman #216, Arc "Lightning Strikes Twice" Summarizes the roles of Eclipso and the Spectre. What drew me into this page was the text segue that says "...Consequences of past actions will forever change the shape of the world. The first such event began not long ago, when the Teen Titan known as Troia battled a killer android..."
pgs. 2-3. Teen Titans/Young Justice: Graduation Day #3 Shows Donna Troy's death and "elsewhere" resurrection. Text describes how her death brought about the formation of the current Teen Titans and Outsiders and also explains Luthor's rise and fall.
pg.4. Superman/Batman #6, Arc "The World's Finest" Luthor, in his horrible green-purple armor, is defeated by Sup-Bat. Thought dead, he's actually alive and vows to get even, muttering the ominous words "There will be a reckoning...a crisis..."
pgs. 5-26. Superman Secret Files & Origins 2004, Story "Suicide Watch" Details the connection between Luthor & Pete Ross as well as the presence of a group manipulating from the shadows. Pete Ross resigns as U.S. President. A chess piece is shown, hinting Checkmate's involvement.
pgs. 27-28. Outsiders #21, story "Silent Partner" + Outsiders #22, story "Deep Throat" Learning about Optitron funding the Outsiders, Nightwing confronts Batman with a series of allegations, one of which was how Batman was the source of Arsenal's take-down-the-villain tips. Batman denies this as Arsenal discovers that it was Deathstroke masquerading as Batman.
