Agreed. What I dislike most was that was that all the future fates were so predictable. It would have been better if if a few things right out of the blue happened. Hopefully the real story won't follow such an obvious path.

Well, it was never a "real" future - just David's idea of how things might go badly.
Clearly, he's very predictable.

Not a bad issue, but not much impact. Possibly because of the art.

... an ENEMY OF THE STATE tie-in, already rendered sort of moot-- though the story *does* give background for the very occurence that renders it so. And the teachers *do* discuss letting the students in on Northstar's 'new' state.
I dunno-- did we see enough of Jean-Paul as the dedicated teacher to believe the accolades spoken at his memorial? The speakers were well-chosen, at least, representing his more recent years. It would've been nice to see some more Alpha Flighters than Sasquatch.
I liked the Victor kid... I'd like to see more of him.
HOUSE OF M issues coming up... this title needs to grow on its own. I guess Marvel wants its sales to rise, hence the tie-ins to 'outside' stories. Maybe the creators can work that to their advantage. This effort is certainly better than many other tie-ins I've read. The shifting fate of Northstar makes it a bit... inconsequential.
There was a nice scene with Winddancer and Julian that I enjoyed. And Joshua the golden child is more interesting than I thought he'd be. A nonintrospective healer... don't recall seeing that in a comics character before.

They made Dani useless in a fight! How could they do that? That is just so totally wrong!

I don't like this artist for a team book. His stylized work would be fine for a solo or small cast title, but here it just was a hindrance to the story, IMO.

...but it was fun to see MAGMA again... even if it was only for a few panels. Will she be Rahne's replacement? In more ways than one? Or is she about to give a little perspective to Dani, Laurie and anyone else judging Josh too harshly?
I think the HOUSE OF M interruption is going to come at a critical time for this title. Maybe the sales numbers will pump up a bit, but will the flow of plot and character be hopelessly derailed?

Good gods, they brought Medina back for art. They had me tricked with the Michael Ryan cover!! All the women had bulbous boobs, everyone's noses were huuuuge, and the hands!
Gah.
Good read, just not so great too look at. *sigh*

I liked the Hellions first issue. I might even start to like them.

I haven't read Hellions #1 yet (forgot I had it ), but I looked through it and I have to ask: Why does the mini get better art the the regular series?

Part of it has been the RIDICULOUS peponderance of fill-in art on the series - if you're constantly scrambling for artists, you're less likely to get good ones. Seriously, in 28 issues (including the not-yet-out NXMAX15), look at the artist list: NM1-4: Keron Grant NM5-6: Mark Robinson NM7, 8 (partial), 9-11: Carlo Barberi NM8 (partial), 12-13: Khary Randolph NXMAX1-2: Randy Green NXMAX3-4: Staz Johnson (breakdowns only on #4) NXMAX5-8, 12-13: Michael Ryan NXMAX9: Carlo Pagulayan NXMAX10-11, 14-15: Paco Medina Of these, I would only say that Green, Ryan, Pagulayan and maybe Johnson (whose problems seemed as much to do with rushing as anything else) and Barberi were any good. Seriously, 28 issues, 9 artists, and only one spell of 4 complete issues in a row by the same artist. And the HoM tie-in promises yet ANOTHER artist (Aaron Lopresti, who if he finishes the 4-issue arc will tie the record for "most consecutive issues by an artist on this series", and beat it if you limit it to NXMAX). It's ridiculous.

Add the writers (and another penciller) to the turnover. Apparently DePhillpis and Weir are gone, to be replaced by the X-23 writers (and X-23's getting brought in too, leading to suspicions of the book turning into "X-23 and friends" very quickly). And Mark Brooks is taking over as penciller.

And now I wonder if the NMs are going to be in X23&F at all. Weir made a valedictory post on X-Fan and mentioned a "special issue that will probably come out late this summer that will wrap up our characters' plotlines." Are they throwing the characters away with the writers?

So no more "Harry Potter and the Mutants of X" house cup challenges?
Young Avengers, Teen Titans, and Legion are such better "teen team" books anyways.

I was leery of X-23 being added to the cast, but having her creator as the new writer makes this an easy drop for me.

Ditto. Revolving artists, being forced to stop storylines dead in their tracks to accomodate the latest X-event... D&W were never given a real chance with this.

I'll stick with this to the bitter end, but I'm sorry if the title goes the way of it's tsunami line counter parts (well, most at least).
The mutants at Hogwarths concept was really fun and this was a surprisingly nice comic book these last two years.
Rereading this post, I feel like I'm jumping the gun on the assumption it might be cancelled. Hopefully, this isn't so.

Sounds like bringing in Wolverina is Marvel's last-ditch effort to up the sales to acceptable (for them) levels. It's definitely backfiring in my case. With all the art changes, DeFilipis and Weir were my main reason for following this book. I liked what they're doing enough to put up with substandard and ever-changing artwork. Now there's nothing to keep me reading the book... especially if they're throwing away what heart this series has had to make it "Amazing Wolvie-Girl & Friends". Yech. I'll pass.

Ditto!! I <3 Dani. Tons. She's so awesome. Seriously -- I'm such a g33k, I even RP her. Yeah, I said it. I know. I'm not ashamed. I embrace my g33kdom. (I write fan fiction too. )
