Notice the "Upload File Form" link next to posts? Well, on a trial basis, we're going to try and allow members to upload (for now) image files with gif, jpeg, jpg, or png file extentions onto the server. Each member gets 15000 kb or 15 files (for now, that limit may be raised, we'll see) and the ability to manage their own files in their own folder using that link. If this works out, I'll probably remove the album feature. Although, I'll keep what images have been loaded there thus far for people to link into their messages. If there's any problems though, I reserve the right to remove this feature.

{[...] 15000 kb or 15 files }
A generous thought, and I hope it works -- but it doesn't seem to quite do so at the moment, at least not in those dimensions.
I tried loading a 118 KB file and got the message: "The file you were trying to upload has exceeded the maximum of 15000 bytes. We stopped the upload at 15360 bytes."
So I tried a 4961-byte file (icon, really) and got: "The file you uploaded was successful. You can access it by clicking here. {link that opens file in new window} You may also copy the following statement to use the hyperlink in your posts. {file location displayed within URL tags}"
It's much appreciated, but if the limit on file size is 15,000 bytes, one can't really store much beyond a large icon. Did you mean to set it for 150,000 bytes per file, or about 150 KB?
The figure for total space you noted was 15,000 KB, and that would give us about 15 MB per person. Although you're certainly that willing, Gary, I doubt PowWeb is {g}

Well, it seems to work on my 118 KB file! Thanks, Gary. It creates a link like this that one can cut and paste: http://www.legionworld.net/upload/00000026/FreekLoserGrey.jpg You do need to be sure that it's named the way you want before uploading. What's the maximum we can store now, per file and in total? (I'm assuming the "15,000 KB" was off ... or is it?)

Right now, let's say 150 KB per member. I may increase it later. I want to test it out for bugs first. Also, we may have to find someplace besides our server to hold it. Or when I move us, maybe I'll renew with PowWeb for a place to store the image files.

It appears that the 150 KB is not the maximum storage space per member, but the new maximum size per uploaded file. Was that what you meant, Gary?
I tried uploading a 300 KB file, to test the maximum size per file. An FYI appeared: "The file you were trying to upload has exceeded the maximum of 150000 bytes. We stopped the upload at 150528 bytes."
I uploaded 15 files successfully, to test the limits on both number of files and total size. They totaled 1.57 MB (1650069 bytes).
When I attempted to use "Upload File Form" again, I received: "You are currently at your limit to upload. To upload anymore [sic] files, please delete some files out of your upload manager. Click here for the upload manager {link}."
This last link, though, generated the message "Bad Request: Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand." Presumably the file name "%%BACK%%" in that link confused things.
I had saved the address of the upload manager, and could open it in a new browser window. (Another minor bug: The upload manager, when it's in the small window, does not scroll, unlike previewed posts and polls. You have to extend the window manually to see all 15 files.)
So the 15-file limit is in effect, though it does have that link glitch if 15 files are loaded and you want to access the upload manager.
It appears that no limit exists at the moment, as such, for total stored file size per member, unless it involves the number and size limits: 15 files x 150528 bytes per file = 2257920 bytes. (That is, 2205 KB or 2.15 MB.)

Okay. Thanks.
I'm going to disable this feature, until I have time to deal with it. Which at this point, won't be until the last week of May at the earliest.
Sorry for the tease everyone.

Just for the record, when I had added this feature earlier in the week, I thought I would have enough time to properly play and test it before my life got complicated. I was wrong.
I want to thank Grey for his help in showing that the uploader isn't doing what I had intended it to do.
I've decided to disable it until I return from my upcoming trip and can work on the issues presented here as well as some others. I would prefer to use this to upload to a seperate server account when I do have it up and working in the future. With all the various images and files that we're hosting at present, it would be too easy to exceed our limits using this hack. I don't want to risk losing the whole MB just for this. For those of you looking forward to using this feature in the future, I promise to get it working to my liking as soon as I can.

I've re-installed this feature even though I haven't moved us to a new host. I just don't see it happening in the near future anymore and don't want to disable this feature any longer.
The limit will be 25 files/member, but the 150kb/file is still in effect. I'll be closing down the album, but the files left there shall remain. If you need/want an image removed from there in the future, please let me (or Scott) know and we'll delete it from the server.
Thanks!

Thanks for turning this back on. Unfortunately, the "Upload File Form" links result in "FYI: Unable to determine status. Please inform the board administrators about this error." The same is true for the Upload Manager that I linked to above, but that function doesn't seem to have a visible link anywhere when making a post, this time around. (The File Form link is run from a JavaScript.) I can look at my already-uploaded files from your test of this two years ago, at this location (the last 8 digits are one's user number). It doesn't seem that anyone else has been able to store files since then.

It works fine for me when I try it. I'll use Kabir's account or something this weekend to test it out for regular members.

*tests* Same error message. EDIT: Okay, this is weird - I just tried a couple of alts, and one got the message, but the other one worked: ![[Linked Image]](http://www.legionworld.net/upload/00000924/BlinkEye.png)

It's not a browser issue, Changeling, it's a server issue. And, given that the alt that worked is the most "junior" alt I have, whereas the alt that didn't is nearly as old as this account, I suspect it's the earlier (2003) memberships that are disproportionately affected by this bug...

You're user number 1, N.C., and presumably would have uploads in this folder ... but it's empty. I wonder if it's working for you, actually, or whether the UBB system isn't displaying something properly after you make an upload -- even if it "works" as a link. Anyway, thanks for sleuthing this. Oh, and the striking RozDawnyEagle art in my folder was by a contributor to Fanzing (now Monitor Duty ) named "Roz," also known as "Orelinde." But since it was posted originally in a message forum, and not as part of the online fanzine, I couldn't get any other information.

I deleted the Nightcrawler images that I tested with since I don't need to use this system. I kept Beast Boy's to show that it was working for "him."

Originally posted by Nightcrawler: But then why can Nightcrawler (2003) upload? I'll play with it this weekend. That occurred to me, and that's why I inserted "disproportionately" . Maybe it's because you're an admin, or maybe there's a little glitch in some profiles left over from one of the things that happened early on or something. I'll test it with another couple of alts later... EDIT: Well, an late-Jul 2003 alt (less than 20 posts) works, but this ID and an early-Jul 2003 alt (greater than 50 posts) don't.

Well, I get a "FYI - Unable to determine status. Please inform the board administrators about this error." as Reboot and Somebody. The other IDs I've tested so far work (yeah, the screenshots are in Opera, but that's just convienience. Same whichever browser). ![[Linked Image]](http://www.legionworld.net/upload/00000924/YesUpload.png)
