I'll second Champagne, and I do think he even expressed interest in writing a Legion book (I think I read that somewhere in connection with NYCC)...
Currently getting caught up on my Legion history by reading the Post-Zero Hour Legion.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Phil Jimenez/George Perez collaboration. They could co-plot the issues, and then share the art chores (either assign scenes to each other, or have one artist do one arc, and then the other take the next. Their art styles are similar enough that it wouldn't really feel like we were getting two different artists, and they are both awesome

Along with some aforementioned artists, I'd really like to see Chris Batista get another shot. I really liked his 31st century tech depictions and he would not be a let down to follow Barry Kitson.
My top choice writer would be Kurt Busiek, who bailed out the Legion and Valor during Zero Hour. I'd like to see him get a fresh start rather than mop-up duty. Gail Simone and Keith Champagne would be good choices as well. And Geoff Johns has the Midas touch, if not enough hours in a day.
From what I've seen, the creative people who love the Legion that get a crack at it tend to love it to death after a short while. That's the only reason I haven't suggested Sketch Lad.

While I would love to see George Perez on the Legion...and continue to hear rumors of a Perez Legion project for the coming year, I would worry about him not being able to do two monthlies. He's just started Brave & the Bold so I can't imagine DC pulling him from that for the LSH. So I'll pin my Perez hopes on an All Star Legion project later this year and leading into the 50th anniversary. Geoff Johns would also be awesome and would pull lots of readers to the book. If I'm not mistaken, he co-wrote the Titans Legion crossover event with Waid so he has some experience with our gang. But he's also got plenty of work to juggle and I wouldn't want the Legion to play second fiddle to anyone. Gail Simone and Kurt Busiek would be acceptable choices but I'd probably want to see Keith Champagne as the new writer from those mentioned (unless it was Shooter making a come back, of course ) As for artist? Chris Batista sure deserves a shot and another name that hasn't been mentioned which I think would be an excellent choice is ... the return of Steve Lightle.

How about Wolfman / Perez doing a "Crisis on Infinite Legions" Project - jumping back and forth between Levitz / Giffen / Reboot / AbnettLanning / Waid continuity anding with a big splendid all new continuity which by sheer coincidence looks nearly like the old Levitz days?
Ah, would be too much to hope for, hm...
I really think a big name like Shooter, Levitz, Busiek or Kevin Smith would mean a big boost in sales, as - off course! - would an artist like Lee or especially Perez (I thik there are more people out there who buy books only because of his art - hey, I even have his I-BOTS stuff from Tekkno Comix, can you believe!).
Perez being a Legion fan lets me hope - especially because DC with Levitz on the top would certainly not have a big problem taking him of from Brave and the Bold after some eight to ten issues...
Other creators I would be interested to read from: Brian Bendis (no deal, he's a Marvel guy), Keith Giffen (naturally), Jay Faerber (Noble Causes is great) or SciFi writer Peter Hamilton (his Nights Dawn saga is as huge as the Legion).
Grant Morisson I never really cared about, no matter what he wrote I did not like it very much.

The Darwyn Cooke suggestion seemed off-base to me at first, until I watched the latest S+LOSH episode. The Colosall Boy imaged on that show looks as if he were drawn by Cooke. Now I think that Darwyn Cooke would be excellent on the the LOSH comic.
So what.

also would hate to hand it off to someone who's experienced a lot of delays but i believe allan heinberg had a good, fresh voice for younthful characters as evidenced by his run on young avengers. a pipe dream would be brian k. vaughn tho i understand his voice is best suited for original characters.
on artists, pete woods is knocking it out off the park with his work on amazons attack. but i'd really like to see a great, new artist on the book...no superstars. i'd like a fresh pair of hands handling this book...this was how stellar legion artists such as giffen, lightle, pearson, immonen and coipel have started out. someone with a brian hitch attention to detail minus the delays.
the legion deserves a great creative team and i'm ready and aching for one! anyone hear anything about the new creative team taking over from WaK?

Not yet. There was a lot of buzz about it at my CBS this week but no news of any kind.

notoriously, on the LSH, popular name creators are followed by young unknowns who grow on the book and then leave to Marvel or the Superman books. so i expect a no name artist. the idea of a sci-fi novelist would be fabulous. Take the book in new directions...

I have to admit that the lack of an announcement is beginning to annoy me. DC has known for at least a few weeks that Barry was leaving for Marvel. We now know that issue 30 was planned to be Waid & Kitson's last issue in their run anyway. You would think that the new creative team would already need to be hard at work. So why haven't we been told who will be taking over? Come on guys! Tell us already!

I agree. Especially since there were hints months ago that they had a plan for who would take over once WaK left. They should've been ready to announce it as soon as the news of Barry's exclusive broke.

Countdown ends in April, 2008. Isn't that the 50th anniversary of something or other?
Haven't we seen hints of Legion activity across the DCU lately?
All we've been told so far is that the title will change when Supergirl leaves, but not what it will change to.
If Countdown also leads to the reintroduction of the multiverse, I expect a succession of titles and logos during the next year, leading to some giant fan-damn-tastic 50th anniversary book, hopefully in TDT format.

I think that the fact that there's been no announcement on who is taking over the Legion means that either 1. they don't know, 2. it isn't someone they think anyone will care about, or 3. it is someone huge and they are waiting as long as possible for the huge announcement.
While I would love for it to be option 3, I'm not convinced that it isn't 1 or 2 (of course there isn't anything wrong with a relative unknown getting the job so option 2 isn't inherently a bad thing).

I've been reading the 'ask Ben Morse' thread over at the comicbloc.com boards, and he says that DC knows who it is and he expects them to announce it soon. Separately, he also said that the upcoming year would be a good one for fans of both the original and threeboot Legions (but not, sadness sadness, the reboot Legion). I don't know what his sources are, but he seems to be the go-to guy for inside dope.

Ben Morse on the staff of Wizard Magazine. So if its going to appear in Wizard he probably knows.
I'm thinking more and more that the writer is going to be Bedard. Marts was his editor on Exiles and now on Countdown. Aside from Countdown and a couple of miniseries, there's not a whole lot listed for him now that he's DC exclusive. Now if Marts could bring one of those X-Men artists to LSH that would be great.

Orignially posted by Tamper Lad: Now if Marts could bring one of those X-Men artists to LSH that would be great. I agree. And realistically, I know it probably won't be Pelletier -- much as I'd love it to be -- since he seems to be replacing Mike McKone on Fantastic Four. But I'd be happy with Larroca -- who Cali already mentioned earlier in this thread -- or X-Factor's Raimondi or...McKone, of course (I know, I know, technically not an X-Men artist, although he did draw the early issues of Exiles.)

I was thinking one of the Exiles artists too, Jim Califore (who also just signed with DC) but I think he's on the Countdown roster.

For a writer I have one choice. Geoff Johns. I don't think any one else would make me happy. Well Levitz would. I fear Busiek for the same reason I feared Waid. Too old school. Busiek will shoehorn something trust me. Kinda like Waid shoehorned the teen thing. I love Busiek but I fear him as well. For artist I am leaning towards Perez but I am more open minded here. Jiminez sounds interesting, McKone would be amazing.

Up to a year ago I would have agreed with you, but then Levitz did that really, really awful JSA fill-in run. I think maybe I'd rather stick with the memory of his great writing.

rogue, i agree that it was boring and maybe he tried too hard. I think if he settles in he would be ok. But I hear ya. I rather remember his first great run. Give a new guy a chance.

LOL I know the feeling. I'm not sure I would want Raimondi off X-Factor...even though I suggested him in the first place...and even though I'd love to see him bring his flair to LSH...but then Raimondi has said he prefers down-to-earth material... ...now I'm all tied into a pretzel.

Larocca would be sweet. PACHECO maybe sweeter...those two guys have been my recent favorites. Alan Davis is my all time fave...but he draws the Legion too teeny last I saw. Pacheco may be for real. Him and Busiek are both fans of the legion....and both involved with Superman recently. Who knows?

I think Pacheco is a great suggestion, but I don't like Busiek at all.
