So I got the Legion of Super Heroes Showcase 2 this week and read it. Most of the stories I had already in the Adventure Comics Digest, but this was the first time I was able to read the Trial of Star Boy and two things leapt out at me when I finished it.
1. Was there ever a follow-up on the vote? I kind of wonder how Star Boy felt about the ones who voted against him.
2. There's a throwaway scene involving Brainiac 5 that seems rife to me with future story opportunities and I wonder if it's ever been touched upon.
Click Here For A SpoilerAt one point, Superboy thinks he has proof that Querl once killed someone in self defense, but it turns out to be a robot ... a robot sent by robotic "descendants" of the original Brianiac. A feud between the biological and oraganic heirs to the Brainiac title seems to be a great plot line if you ask me...

1. No, the vote was never revisited. Star Boy, like most heroes in those days, was a Mensch who did not hold his fate against the other Legionnaires.
In fact, in subsequent stories (SUPERBOY # 211, for instance), he seemed to agree with the verdict.
2. This, too, was never touched on, though I suppose the reboot storyline of Robotica could be seen as exploring similar ground.

I always thought that Levitz missed a grand opportunity by not having Star Boy around in his updated version of the story in v3 #51.

An interesting idea, Eryk. How would Thom have felt about his former prosecutor being court-martialed? The boot's on the other foot? Or, "I really feel for the guy"? Alas, we'll never know.

The other interesting question... would Brainy have acknowledged he was wrong all those years ago?

I doubt it. For one thing, Brainy had built a very solid case by proving that Thom could have stopped Kenz Nuhor without resorting to deliberate lethal force.
For another, Brainy's ego wouldn't have permitted him to admit he was wrong until the events of the Magic Wars, when he acknowledged something similar to Projectra.

Adventure 342 is one of those issues in the Legion Wiki for which a page has been created, but is still needs information filled in for the story synopsis, etc. Anyone care to contribute? http://www.legionwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Adventure_Comics_342

The silliest thing about this story is: If Star Boy could get past Nuhor's shield with his ray gun, why couldn't he get past it with his powers?

How about this...
Brainy is descended from the Original braniac. On some worlds, such as Stel from GL, robotics are the prevailing "life" form. As such, wouldn't destroying/ending the useful life of said robotic be the same as "Killing"? And if so, is any legionaire immune from prosecution? What about Brainy ending the life of his "son", computo?
After all, some world have energy beings. Causing them to use up their energy could be the same as murder. Quislet anyone?
Who's to say what the definition of life is? "Sentience"? Well, what about the simple omeaba? It has a sentience of sort. It spawns and gives life...

Damn you, you kids! Get off my lawn or I'm callin' tha cops!
Something pithy!

1. Was there ever a follow-up on the vote? I kind of wonder how Star Boy felt about the ones who voted against him. There was a mention of it in a recent-ish issue v7? from Dream Girl to Thom, about not holding onto old grudges between Thom & Brainy. But that was about it.
