Tomorrow, the Large Hadron Collider -- a particle accelerator that's 17 miles in circumference -- will begin operation in Europe.
The Collider's operation could theoretically create miniature black holes, which could consume the planet and everything on it.
Just in case that happens... well, it's been nice knowin' all of ya!

Robert Sawyer's "Flash Forward" starts with a super-collider powering up in Switzerland. It causes everyone in the world to black out and see a year or so into the future, then wake up. All the people driving and flying die, so there's chaos.
What time do I have to make certain I'm sitting in a safe place?

So they have to go back in time, to the universe that existed before their own and MAKE SURE IT DIES! Mwa-ha-ha!
