Is anyone else a little disapointed at the newly revealed origins of the Emerald Eye of Ekron? What do you think?
and what do you think are the chances the Fatal Five make an appearance in the next year?

I honestly have no clue what to think of the new Eye. I mean...I always imagined that the Eye was some cosmic construct of unlimited power. Having it be a Green Lantern weapon is just...anticlimactic.

Well, for members of the homosexual community, the word "gay" would probably be a good thing.

Last time I was gonna call something 'gay,' I checked myself and said, 'lame.'
Since I was talking to someone with a prosthetic leg, I decided next time I'm just gonna shoot myself before I start talking.
IMO, the Emerald Eye didn't need an origin. Nor do I need to read about the Head of Ekron or Ekron's Left Nut or whatever. Yeesh, what will they think of next?

"Head of Ekron"? When I heard about it, I thought "meh", and was curious as to how they were going to work it--would it accept Legion continuity (and if it did, would it work with _all_ of them?) or would it just be whatever spin they felt like putting on it?
If it was the former, I could live with it, and might even enjoy it, but this...I don't know, it doesn't really make sense to me.
Easily could I have been happy with the Eye being a mysterious artifact of incredible power.
Instead, the Empress is now on par with a crazed Green Lantern.
Or something.

I think the Emerald head thing was pretty stupid. Don't care for the GL tie in. I am really suprised they went this route.
Maybe a personification how the power of the GLs can corrupt can be worked in. I don't know. Emerald Empress is one of my fave Legion villains. I was let down a bit.

I'm going on record as saying that "gay" should not be used here to describe something "lame" or "uncool" or "bad" or whatever.
Thanks.
And the Emerald Eye revelation was stupid!

Well, I certainly don't mind the Emerald Head of Ekkron per se, and I don't mind it being connected to the Green Lantern mythos, but turning it into a spaceship piloted by a Green Lantern is pretty goofy.
Of course, we haven't really seen the whole story yet, so it could turn out better.

I loved the GL tie-in--I always thought it was the only reasonable origin for an ancient green-energy-spewing, thought-controlled artifact of incredible power which tended to send its users insane. I imagined it as a prototype of the rings, maybe, scrapped for being too powerful and uncontrollable. Having it be an element of a larger body is also a perfectly good origin...but having it be part of a giant space-traveling head which is itself piloted by a Green Lantern verges on backstory overkill. You don't need to be rocketed to Earth from another planet and bit by a radioactive mosquito, unless you're Lester Girls. But who knows? Maybe the entire origin will be critical to the upcoming story. It'll be nifty if they can pull it off.

I didn't get the impression that it was being piloted by a GL. Rather that it was a GL. I'll have to go back and re-read those parts again I guess.

I got the impression that the GL was a prisoner and the head was using him/her/it and the GL ring and battery to power the space ship/head of Ekron.
Must go and re read this episode

Yeah, I seem to remember a pre-boot story briefly describing the eye as an artifact of a long-dead civilization, called Ekron, that destroyed itself by mucking about with mystic weapons. The implication was that the eye was directly responsible for Ekron's destruction. I could be misremembering that though.
Having the Eye be part of a larger "body" is just as goofy as the early reboot suggestion that "if there's one, there has to be another." How many times have we seen aliens with more or less than two eyes in the Legion continuity? The Eye was way more menacing as a mysterious mystical object.
And I really hope that it doesn't turn out to be a proto-GL thing. That would open up a whole new can of worms about the Guardian's experiments before the GLC. We already know about the Manhunters; let's leave it at that.

"Vengar was the site of the long-dead Ekron civlization, whose astounding scientific secrets were lost until..." Adv. 352
That actually brings up some cool possibilities. Maybe the Ekron built the Eye in an attempt to duplicate the Guardian's power ring techonology?

Geez, the original origin is much better. I mean usually all the old Adv stuff I think is goofy...but this time they had to use a perfectly cool origin and make it goofy. This had to be Waid's work. Anyways, a lost civilization called Ekron on Vengar? I dig it. The other eye? the head? What's next the toenail of ekron? This could've been a very cool Legion 3 issue arc exploring the ancient Ekron soceity and introducing the super sexy Emerald Empress. ohwell guess we have to settle for a head and Lobo. (ick) (this is why i hate all the explaining after a "crisis". they always do more than they should)

Hmm... the other curious thing about the Emerald Eye is its vulnerability to kryptonite. Why would it be vulnerable to kryptonite? Unless, of course, it connects to this old theory of mine...

We really need a catalogue with links to all the brillant theories of Eryk Davis Ester and his Legion of Super-Theorists.
I hope there's more to come on the origin of the Emerald Eye in 52. I'm not quite sure what they were trying to get across with it exactly.
