Last year, around August, at the age of 21 (almost 22), I, for the first time, GOT MY DRIVER LISCENSE!!!!
YAY!!!
A year later and I am still so proud...
And to show I bear no ill will, I, too, shall bestow a gift...

yay!
My mom didn't get hers until her late 20s. I have friends in their 40s-60s who have never gotten one.
I think 20s are a better time to get a license than teens, for the most part. When I look back on some of the things I and my friends did/tried at 19, it's a wonder I'm alive.
The childhood friend Exnihil never had.

You do realize that I actually didn't need to know that. But congrats anyway.
Now if I could just shake this nameless feeling of dread that's suddenly come over me...

Congrats!
I've had a license since I was a teenager, but I didn't own a car from 1991 to 2001. I moved to Boston from Florida at the end of 1990 and sold the car when I got there. I didn't own a car again till about 2 1/2 years after I moved to Houston, where having a car is pretty much a necessity.

Cheers all for the cheers!!! [/b]Just being able to go to school and work on your schedule is liberating. My aunt gave up her license when she was around 89. She had not been driving while she was recovering from some surgery. When she felt better she asked me to go with her. She was doing OK, although she kept pulling towards the side of the road. The kicker came when she was pulling out of a parking lot. There was a guy coming towards us, but he was far enough away that you could have pulled out in front of him. However, my aunt was a little slow and the other driver had to put on his brakes and honked at her. When we got back home, she handed me the keys and said that she is not driving any more. She had my dad sell her car. Even though she gave up the car herself, she would at times miss her ability to just run to the store when she needed something.

Yeah, definitely. I'm glad my grandpa, who's pushing 90, acknowledges this and drives very infrequently now.

I was 23. I kept renewing my driver's permit until they raised it to a princely sum of $3!

This was a long time ago. I don't recall what the fee for the license was, only that I was incensed at being "pressured" into getting one.

I failed the driver's test three times before finally passing it...barely. I just got so frikkin' nervous taking the test! And learning under my dad's tutelage? A nightmare! He had no patience and a hair-trigger temper. Ugh!

I think I passed the test on the first try, but I was so worried that I would fail that I delayed taking it for as long as possible.

My car stalled the first time and I nearly killed the tester and myself, so I failed that one.
The second time, he nick-picked, "When turning right, you must enter the far right lane only."
Third time, I passed no problem.
