Back when my glasses were still unbroken... Oh, it was good times... But I'm not against costume re-designs!! Joe-boy, Sketch Lad, Princess Crujectra and Tempest, to name a few, have all done amazing things with my character before. (Thanks again everyone.) Anyway, you're a sweetie. ^_^ And a good artist.

You mean the one Tempest designed for me? The orange-and-starfield micro? Yes, it's really nice. That will be "Suncat". Now to draw that version myself!

G'day all! Always wondered why no one tried to continue the Bat legacy in the 3oth century (never mind that Wayne descendant who was murdered in one of those retconned LSH annuals)... Just a thought... http://www.deviantart.com/view/25546836/ Apologies, Greybird, haven't gotten around to exploring your imaging suggestions. Sorry for always using this link. Will see to it as soon as I can.

Apologies, Greybird, haven't gotten around to exploring your imaging suggestions. Sorry for always using this link. Will see to it as soon as I can. Good question! Your image shows a great concept for such a future "Bat". Couldn't be a Legionnaire unless you're thinking of some powers. But why not an ally? Or sometime-ally. I could see a re-visioned "Bat" not always using LSH-approved methods.

Links are just fine, amigo. And they do have the advantage of letting the thread here at LegionWorld load far faster.
The shading variations in your Batboy show a fine grasp of anatomy, along with adding considerable drama. Such combined effects help make it compelling.

Maybe he could be part of a "Legion of Urban Vigilantes"..? [img=http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/5606/legionnaires1nz.th.jpg]

Superboy I got to the picture, which is the important thing, right? I like how you used the dark tones to give the impression that his boots are a different material. Nice overall redesign of the costume.

Uuuhhh, apologies to any Jo Nah and Superboy fan. I mean I love these characters, too... I only thought, "what better way to show how skillful Batz could be than have him go up against these two?". Oh man, the Karate Kid fans are gonna hate me, too...

Happy New Year everyone! May this year be a year of BUILDING dreams and whatnots. As well as clearing old cobwebs (like this ol' codger that I found in my old stuff) ![[Linked Image]](http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/9476/legiondnapost0dc.th.jpg)

Great group shot! I love the varied placements of the characters. The whole creates a very interesting composition. I'm wondering how many rough sketches you went through to achieve this.

Errr dunno, it's been quite a while Come to think of it, I don't think I went through a rough study phase as with the stuff I do now; that's why the figures and poses aren't as dynamic as I would've wished. Honestly, I kinda lucked out on the composition! It really just started as a M'onel sketch along with the other "powerhouses". After I added the founders (coz what's a Legion sketch without the Legionaires Three, right?), I just continued to add guys in. If you notice, the former Amazers on the bottom left corner seem kinda just lumped in, almost as an afterthought. Lotsa erasures though! Sorry rambled far too much there. Didn't realize how fun it was to talk art process How about it Suncat? What goes on in your world when creating your masterpieces? I would love to get the scoop on your influences (sides Lightle) and references. I have a lot of trouble with facials (mine tend to look Asian all the time, go figure) and natural poses, so I wonder if you'd be willing to share some tips...?

Hee! Got another one! I find talking about art process utterly addicting. Must be careful to remember to actually draw something occasionally. How about it Suncat? It's officially your fault if I blather on ad infinitum. Influences? I've accumulated more than I can remember now. Just within the comics realm I'd cite Steve Lightle (of course!), Neal Adams, Curt Swan, Murphy Anderson, Jim Aparo, George Perez, James Sherman, Jack Abel (yeah, I know a lot of people don't care for his inks, but I love 'em), Nestor Redondo, Rumiko Takahashi, Chiho Saito, Russ Manning, Joe Kubert. Of artists who've written instructional books I like--Daniel Greene, Bet Borgeson, Jack Hamm, Rudy De Reyna, Burne Hogarth (of course being also a comics artist). And then the myriad artists I love to study--Da Vinci, Boticelli, all the Pre-Raphaelites, and many more that I just can't recall at the moment. These days, I learn a lot from the folks over at ArtPost@yahoogroups.com, the list started by Steve Lightle. Faces and natural poses, hm. I often feel like the poses of my figures are "stiff" or "unnatural". I try to cure this by sketching from life, and intensely observing and memorizing when I can't sketch. I've become infamous at my office for all the scribbles in my technical notebooks. My coworkers can tell if the meetings I was in were boring or not! As for drawing varied ethnic groups--it's a lot more than getting the right skin tones. Each ethnic group has distinctive casts of head and facial features shapes. I grew up in a very northern-European-populated area of the US (Minnesota!), and so northern-European came easy and early for me. I had to work to learn the differing forms that create the faces of other groups, and I'm not claiming I've got it yet by any means. I've had the best chance to study Japanese faces, after marrying into a Japanese-American family. I've seen a few art instruction books delve into this topic, including some by Burne Hogarth and Joe Kubert. And don't forget the mirror--my husband still sees my face showing up in many of the comic book females I draw. Another critical issue is perspective. But, if I get started on that topic, I'll be writing all night. Your turn, and I'll blather on about perspective next post.
