Answering for him: Yes, LW's a separate planet, and the cities are not transplanted from Earth, if that's what you mean. (Earth itself still exists.) Some cities may or may not have the same or similar names as some Earth cities.

In my Homecoming Onevision fic (somewhere on the first page of Bits) I established that Earth has a unified federal government. The countries as of 2015 mostly still exist, with a few changes - Tibet and Greenland are fully independent, Kosovo and Taiwan are fully recognized sovereign states, and Kurdistan has been created.

Hey, just saw this thread was bumped! Thanks Lardy for answering Stalgie's question! Stalg--I'm thrilled you're interested in the LMB universe, and I was even more thrilled when I opened up the Bits forum to find you starting our own Onevision story! That's freaking awesome! I can't wait to dive in and read it, and I'll probably wait until you've built up several posts before I do so (which is what I typical do when I read our stories here). My first and most major advice is: jump right in and have fun. Don't be overwhelmed by the vast history of the LMB and its universe and don't worry too much about stepping on toes or making mistakes. The most important thing is you having fun, which will come across in your writing, and then cause us to have fun too. Meanwhile, Lardy and Ibby answered your question on Earth. If you're interested, and you may already have seen this, you can get more detail on the history of Earth and the move to Legion World (a seperate planet across the universe from Earth) in the LMB History thread. The link starts on page 12, which gets into Legion World, though the few prior pages give some more context. My onevision, The Gold Watch is about Earth & the LMB (years after the LMB left Earth), and also goes into a lot of Earth's history. I'm thrilled you've taken an interest! Hopefully this gets a few other posters around here to feel that itch again for writing LMB stories!

Thanks, Cobie! I hope you like what you read once you get the chance. BTW, what's a Onevision?

A Onevision is a single-author story, as opposed to a tag team thread, a role play where anyone can post as their LMB character (e.g. Wedding of the Century) or a structured collaborative effort (e.g. Lord of the Oval). Btw, my Homecoming Onevision shows the state of Earth after Cobie's own Gold Watch story.

Thanks Ibby. I'll alter my title accordingly to make it clearer for people browsing Bits.

Does the LMB have a "5YL Period" like their comic inspiration? If so, what exactly is that future like? Is it a possible future that constantly gets pushed further as each year passes?

I vaguely recall a 5 year later mention in the History of the LMB thread, so I did a search: 5 Years Later was a tag team thread. Sadly the link to the actual thread is lost but I bet Cobie and some others still remember what happened! This was before my time sadly. Cobie's post implies its events will still be in canon. I cannot say for sure if there are any events that must not be missed with, but generally in the LMB we don't introduce irreversible developments to other people's characters There was a One Year Jump after Infinite Crisis.

Thanks Ibby! I had a prospective plot point for my current Onevision that involved the future, but didn't want to contradict any pre-established futures for the LMB.

I believe (and Lardy and Cobie can correct me on this if I'm wrong) that a major point of the LMB's "Five Years Later" story was that Lardy turned evil and fought the LMB. Since the LMB's history has gone on for much longer than five years and that hasn't happened, I suggested in "The Good Eleven" that Lardy never turned evil in part because of his short relationship with Rocky.
The only character in all of literature who has been described as "badnass" while using the phrase "vile miscreant."

Yeah, there was definitely a 5YL period in LMB continuity that originated in a tag thread over on the original DC boards. (Last I heard, that tag thread was preserved in Loser Lad's LMB Archives, but I'm not sure if that site still exists.) Over the years, Cobie and I have worked toward some of the developments stated in that history with our characters. For example, Cobie was first shown to both have developed healing powers and his homeworld to have been destroyed in the original thread. Both things have become canon for his character in "present day" stories. My big thing for 5YL was Lardy going terribly evil, which was something I built the character toward for a long time. I even wrote two-thirds of a planned trilogy of Onevisions set in 5YL continuity: "Secrets" and "The Search for Lard Lad" (both of which can be found here on Bits, though "Search..." is currently incomplete because I forgot to post the archived final parts. ). The third was to be called "Reign of the Dark Lard". In present day Onevisions like "Turning Point" and "Smoke and Mirrors" (both here in Bits) and various roleplays, I documented him clearly going down a dark path. But you know what? At some point, Cobie and I decided the dystopian future was not inevitable. Lardy found redemption at last in "Lord of the Oval", and as far as I'm concerned, he'll never be evil. I feel that renders the LMB's 5YL as officially an alternate future, now. Basically, like the LSH's Adult Legion stories, writers just eventually felt too hamstrung by them and eventually were set free by Paul Levitz having Shady survive in LSH 300. So use the LMB's 5YL if you want, Stalgie, but think of it as more of an alternate or possible future. Make it similar or different to what we did before and have fun with it, but don't expect it to be THE future of the LMB. It's just more fun that way!
Still "Lardy" to my friends!

A little research finds that Loser's archive site is still intact, including the original 5YL tag thread, which I contend is still among the very best tags ever--and a complete one at that!

Awesome! Thanks Lardy for sharing that. I always get a kick out of reading old tag threads.
I wish we could do more to continue the ones we currently have on Bits. I do so enjoy contributing to them.

I know that Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd have both appeared in LMBP stories but have Wile E Coyote and the Roadrunner ever appeared?

Not that I know of...
My character Petty Officer Marvin used to be of the Brood (Marvel), but was transformed into a Marvin the Martian type.
His colleague, Petty Officer Bugs, is very much based on Bugs Bunny.

Cobie, is there anything you'd like to add about the LMB's 5YL from your point of view?

Cobie, is there anything you'd like to add about the LMB's 5YL from your point of view? You summed it up quite well! Is there a League of Message Board Assassins? No, surprisingly, there isn't! And Silver Slasher is just ripe for being parodied!

Does the LMB and/or Legion World have any prominent scientific research labs like S.T.A.R Labs in the DCU?
