Thanks Faraway Lad! I used Sun Boy for Tenz, Star Boy for Chem, a legends Daredevil for Ferro & BoP Black Canary for Dream Girl. Sorry the pics are from a cheapy digital camera. These were fun, Tenz took the longest to do with all his costume detail. I tried to do customs of LSHers that DCD might never get around to doing.

MEM, I love the Condo. And your namesake was great too.
minesurfer has given me a bunch of images and information on his customs and I plan on building a section on my site (whenever life calms down enough for me to do so) to showcase his customs and some instructions.
If you ever want to do the same, let me know.

They look very solid. Are you going to get the DCD Ferro Lad now? Let me know if you ever want to talk shop. I've been customizing for about 3 years now. I'm glad to see a fellow customizer on the board. I thought I was going to be the only geek (and I mean that in a good way ) who plays with dolls, as my nephews call it. I sternly remind my nephews of the major differences between dolls and ACTION FIGURES right afterwards. I take it that you don't read those archives very often, eh?

So someone posted a link to a fake comiccon website that featured custom built action figures of comic characters. There are some Legion of Super Heroes ones that are pretty cool. I want the Andromeda and Brainiac 5 ones. Brainiac 5 comes with Koko! http://www.joeacevedo.com/docs/customzone/customcon/customcon9/index.htm Check it out! :-) luv, -Su

I wish they were. I'm thinking of contacting the guy who made the Legion ones and asking if he'd be willing to sell duplicates of the figures he made. well, would have to convince him to make a duplicate.. not sure how much it would cost though. I know I want some. luv, -Su

The figures shown were created for an on-line "virtual" convention and competition of custom-figure creators. They're excellent work, with a comprehensive Legion cast, mostly preboot, many with his own outfit designs. The creator posted at the LMBP Yahoo! Group about them, and I decided to get some TinyURLs instead of his longer ones ... Not bad. Nice work on the bodies and costume designs, though the faces don't really do it for me.

Thanks! This is where I wanted to post it at first but it was missing. I spoke to the creator of the figures and he said that until/unless he can perfect some molding techniques to make duplicates, he won't be able to sell any of them. luv, -Su

I just wanted to stop by and say thanks for the kind words about my figures. They have become a very time consuming (and expensive) hobby. But they have also been very rewarding for me. Before I decided to make them, I was basically just an engineer by trade. I also found that by making these figures, I was able to connect with the characters and the artists who draw them in a way that I never had before.
I now have new found respect for artists, sculptors, and people who sew. Those are not easy skills to learn. I'm still trying though.
Like Su said, I've been trying to work on some casting techniques, but I have not had substatial success yet.
I hope to post more pictures someday, not only of these but of other ones that I have completed since the mock convention ended.
I would also like to thank Greybird and Su for posting links for me. Back to my work bench...

And hopefully, should I ever get my own site back on line, minesurfer will have a showcase there of his Legion line of figures along with a how-to guide.

Thanks Scott... And if it weren't for my new Gamecube and Zelda, I might finish some more customs someday. I knew I shouldn't have bought that.

Lol! I haven't gotten a Gamecube and didn't know there was a Zelda for it. I haven't yet played the last Zelda for the N64. Lately I've just been playing EverQuest. I have a lvl 56 cleric on The Tribunal server. It's alot of fun. Great to see you on the board minesurfer! I meant to ask you, bc I accidentally deleted the email, what was the website that had that molding compound again? I dont' know if it's called a compound, but I know it was a product for molds.. luv, -Su

Hi Su. The Zelda for N64 was the Ocarina of Time. The game is so cute, that my wife saw me playing it, and actually let me buy the GameCube for the Zelda: Wind Waker game. Mind you, she is not into video games or letting me spend money on them at all. Play Ocarina, you won't be disappointed. I've recently been experimenting with alumilite . Its the two part silicone (rubber) molding compound that we discussed. It also comes with a two part plastic mixture as well. The plastic sets up fast (less than 5 minutes) once you mix it. I've been using it to see if I can cut down on the costs of base figures. I don't think its going to suffice. The silicone material is pretty expensive when you consider how many molds you can actually make from it. It works great though, and doesn't have any odors that I noticed. It might suit your father's purposes though. I'm going to try a few casts with latex as the molding material, which is alot cheaper and should allow me to retain sufficient details.

Gotta ask Mike. Don't know if I have before. Do you do commissions? I'd love to get a Garth/Imra pair from their married years, before they left the Legion. Imra in the old pink bikini and Garth in his full blue outfit with the white inside leg.

I'd like to try and share my work with other Legion afficianados... there's always a but though. The short answer is no, I don't do commissions.
A. I work very slow and methodically. I've set some figures down half done, only to come back and finish them years later. Sometimes I just go into a mode where I don't want to see action figure at all. Commissioning projects is not in step with this philosophical approach to the hobby.
Secondly. The best place for me to get the style of figures I work in requires ebay. Once shipping gets included into the cost of base figures, it becomes cost prohibitive for a customizer like myself to actually profit from the sale of my work. Every once in awhile, I might hit the jackpot, but I don't think it would be enough money to make me want to quit my day job let alone sustain the hobby.
There are some customizers who do commissions and sell on ebay, I don't know if I can recommend going this way though. My best advice would be to try to make something yourself.

Totally understandable minesurfer. I'm sure that I couldn't do it for selling if I had the talent you have. It does take a lot and require a love for what you do. And action figure customs are no where near doing, say, HeroClix customs.

Someone is selling a custom Mon-El/Valor on eBay. You can see the listing here . And someone else has a custom Star Boy (not as elaborate as the Mon-El above) here .
