In the middle of breakfast, which the Legionnaires all eat at a giant L-shaped table for no reason, a giant portal glowy thing suddenly appears and Cosmic Boy steps out.
“Hey, guys, I’m back!”
A chorus of “Hey, Cos” comes back.
“Hey, where were you, by the way?” Garth asks, inbetween bites of pancakes.
“Uhm, yeah about that, it seems that our universe is coming to an end.”
Ultra boy lifts his eyebrows, “What? On purpose?”
“I…” Cosmic boy stares at Jo for a moment because “on purpose” wasn’t really a viable question and he’s not sure how to answer.
Saturn Girl brushes Jo’s weird question aside, “Cos, our universe can’t be coming to an end, Querl would have noticed.”
Putting his fork in the air to comment, Querl shakes his head, “No, not really,” he admits sheepishly. “Do you have any idea how resplendently gorgeous my fiancé is? She’s taken to reading pi to me now…” he gets a far off look in his eyes.
Imra frowns. “Querl, that’s really irresponsible of you.”
“I’m very sorry. But yes, the universe is ending, Rokk is right. I noticed this morning and wasn’t sure how to work it into conversation…” he murmurs casually, going back to reading the news.
Tinya raises her hand.
“Yes, Phantom Girl?”
“Are we all going to die then?”
“Ah…well… yes…” replied Rokk awkwardly, confused by the reaction.
“Huh…” said Tinya, looking thoughtful.
“Uhm. Guys, why aren’t any of you upset?” Rokk asks, looking exasperated.
Lightning Lad rubbed his chin. “Huh… uhm…well since you’ve been gone I haven’t really been feeling this universe…Imra keeps saying really creepy things to me. I keep trying not to look her in the eye but she’s still there…just staring at me…”
“And Garth’s been a weird emo jerk lately. I think he wants to get on the president…” Imra adds, motioning for Triplicate Girl to pass the syrup.
“Don’t get me started on the Princess. I think she’s evil now or something,” comments Jo.
“What, really?” asks Cos, looking astounded. “She was really nice before!”
“We’re not really going to die or anything anyways,” pipes up Invisible Kid, who seemed incapable of not getting syrup on everything. “I mean, we’re superheroes. Val’s died like fifty times and he keeps coming back.”
Val waves his hand in agreement, “Word.”
“So yeah,” Garth continues. “No biggie. Sit down. Have some pancakes.”
Rokk looks tired and bewildered but sits down any ways. “So what do you think we’ll be like next time?”
“Ohh, I dunno. Wouldn’t it be great if I was a minority?” Imra suggests pleasantly.
Star boy shakes his head, looking sober. “Everyone’ll hate you, Imra, it sucks. Really.”
Lyle pats his arm. “I like you.”
“Me too,” comments Brin.
“Thanks, guys,” Star Boy blushes.
“You think Superman’ll hang out with us?” Lyle asks.
Querl shrugs, “Who knows. I just hope you’re there,” he said, ruffling Lyle’s hair idly. “I’ve grown rather fond of you.”
“Yeah, I don’t have the greatest prospects,” Lyle says, looking regretful. He shrugs, “But I got better than most…”
Imra takes hold of Garth and Cos’ hands in hers. “Hey. I look forward to meeting all of you again. Becoming friends. Falling in love. Sometimes it’s horrible but the beginnings’ are always good, right?’
Cos nods, agreeing, “Yeah, beginnings are pretty good.”
