I posted this poll on a couple of other message boards and I thought I'd give the people here a crack at it too. Basically I'm trying to figure out what kind of support the Supergirl and the Legion of Super-Heroes comic is and isn't getting, partially so I can write about it on Legion Abstract . Granted that there are liable to be more pro-Legion sentiments all around here than in the other places, but please help me out with a vote and a comment. Thanks.

Interesting that no one has replied other than to vote, though.

I'd expected to LOVE Supergirl's appearance in the LSH but after a few issues now, I'm not all that sure. I guess in retrospect, that I loved Kara's appearences in the old days because she was used so sparingly...or maybe because there's an unresolved mystery and Waid refuses to give us any clues that don't send us off on a wild kryptonian babootch chase.

Whatever the reason, I'm having a tough time welcoming her into the current Legion.

Its kinda the opposite for me. I'm enjoying the new Legion a great deal, but I do feel that things are moving much too slowly for my tastes, and that there are other problems. Supergirl isn't one of them though for me--I'm glad she's around and welcome her to this new Legion.

Waid has been careful not to let Supergirl overshadow the rest of the Legionnaires, dispite the name. As long as that is the case I love having her around.

It's the only Legion being published now, so I'm buying it.
I was hyped when it started and was willing to see where it was headed. The glacial pace of the stories are trying my patience though.
I really feel like I still have no idea who these characters are or why I should care.
I love the Legion, but I'm not "getting" this version.

i almost checked "started off good.."

but i just couldn't, i bought the early issues, even though they weren't really good because i hoped it was going somewhere or would get good. it didn't. and Barry only draws half the time.

a few months ago, i stopped picking it up, saying if its good next month i'll get both. well..it wasn't good the next month, or the one after that. adios legion. especially now that that lunatic supergirl has shown up.

*wow i sound pissy*

Well, I picked "I buy the comic but none of the other answers fit me" because I think it's a decent Legion title, but I wouldn't really describe it as "good", when there's been versions of the Legion that were much better. It's also not the case that I'm buying it simply because it's the only Legion title available, because there have been times when it's been much worse and I haven't bought it. So an accurate description of my attitude would be something like "I like the Legion and this is a decent take on it, so I'm buying it."

I also picked "I buy the comic but none of the other answers fit me" because the real reason I buy it is because Waid is the writer. I mean, yeah, now that I've read the entire reboot, I have some appreciation for the Legion and the scope of what it is and can be but, in all honesty, I first picked this up because it had Waid's name on it, pure and simple.

I have faith in the man and, though I haven't been liking the book as much as of late, faith it will get better once again. I like this version of the Legion and it is a good book but it's Waid. I mean, look at my signature-- I think that says it all. wink

I voted "I buy the comic but none of the answers fit me". I'm hanging in there but Waid has not made it easy. I'm finding myself having to over-think the book to keep my interest, feeling that the events in "52" and the reveal at the end of Waid's 36 issues will somehow lend themselves to an improved 'vision' of this book.

So what.

I'm a Legion Fan,Have been for most of my life,The reason I'm reading comics today is because of the Legion it was the first and only title I read for years,I started with Cockrum and Bates,And my love for them grew after reading about their past due to the reprints of Adventure Comics in the regular series and digests,I even loved them when Conway,Thomas,Janes and Staton were doing the stories because they were the Legion and there was a special magic to the characters and their history that always left me wanting more.
Then with the second coming of Levitz with Giffen the Legion was awesome, then came Crisis and no more Kal-El, ok I accepted that this is the new DCU,Then Came the 5 Year Gap with more changes in the Legion's history some of it I liked some of it I did not,but I accepted it because it was still the Legion for the most part,Then came the Zero Hour Reboot ok they are stating over from scratch,My Legion is gone but maybe I can love the new Legion just as much,Well it started off good but after awhile it just seemed like a cheap imitation of the Original Legion,I thought (Superboy's Legion) the 2 part Elseworlds story by Farmer and Davis seemed to really capture the spirit and magic of the Legion that I fell In love with,And last the new Waid and Kitson reboot I was thinking this is going to be great because Waid said it was going to be great,But it ain't! who are these character's they have got the same name's as the Legionnaire's but they don't act anything like the Legion, wheres the Villian's,wheres the Heroes for that matter, will there ever be anything to care about in this Legion the character's are unlikeable and the stories are just to bland for my taste.
Well at least I have the Cartoon.

I tried to rip their soul out.I tried to make them forget Superman.
But they won't.

"I buy the comic but none of the other answers fit me"

Though at one point this one became very close to being the choice:

"It started off okay but Supergirl showed up and I dropped it"

Probably the best way I could describe it is "It started off okay, but Supergirl showed up and derailed it. She's nothing but a stupid sales gimmick, and a character I never liked to boot."

I buy it because it's the only Legion title going. I've been collecting everything that said Legion on it since I was 9 years old. My first issue was Adv. 337 and I was hooked. I've stuck with the Legion through thick and thin for 36 years now, through bad artists, bad writers, and bad Legionnaires, through reboots and re-reboots, but I'm about at the end of my rope. The pace is so slow, I bet I could wait a year to pick it up again and not miss much. Kitson's art is great, but he's not around much these days. If this title doesn't get its sh*t together pretty soon, I'm seriously considering dropping it for the first time in my life, which makes me very very sad, but there you have it. I've seen nothing so far that justified the reboot. At first I was thrilled with the return to the original all Silver Age cast, but these are not the characters I grew up with at all. The new origins for Colossal Boy, Phantom Girl, and Triplicate Girl are SO lame. What was wrong with the old ones? Cosmic Boy is a complete pr*ck and Brainy is a psycho-nazi. The worst thing ever is sending Sun Boy off with a bunch of genocidal maniacs because his parents actually approve of the Legion! WTF? And killing off Dream Girl, one of the most popular Legionnaires, toying with resurrecting her for 8 months and then not is inexcusable. Does anybody have a Mark Waid voodoo doll? Where's Thora of Taltar when you need her?

I voted "it's good and I buy it" because after an initial period of psychological adjustment, I've enjoyed almost every issue on its own merits and I look forward to it every month. It's the only comic book I must read the moment I buy it (but that's been true of every version of the Legion). I'd be lying, though, if I didn't add I'm eager to see it cohere into "the bigger picture", plus there's the frustration of not having a complete in-story explanation for the reality shift that happened two years ago. A new incarnation of the Legion suddenly popping out of Superboy Prime's fists is not a satisfactory answer.

Now that Nura's essence in Brainy's head (at least for the present) and Sun Boy and Terror Firma are back on the scene I don't think any of the pending plotlines are more than 6 months old and most seem to be creeping forward, so I'm not terribly concerned about long-term danglers.

Supergirl, were are told, is a "catalyst for huge events", which hopefully are coming soon. Her slow-moving story in LSH may well be contingent on her equally slow-moving story in the mainstream DCU, where she's still a cypher post-OYL. I can't put the blame on the LSH creative team.

Mon-El, I think, is another big piece of the puzzle and I'm overjoyed by his return.

Cosmic Boy needs another vacation (a very long one this time) and I do wish they'd and start fleshing out the others. That means backstories for Atom Girl, Element Lad, Light Lass/Lightning Lad, Shadow Lass, Star Boy, Timber Wolf and Ultra Boy. No more new members, except Mon-El, until progress is made on that front.

The internal artwork has definitely suffered because of Barry's accident but that problem seems to be behind us. I hope

I answered that this is the only Legion comic going so I buy it. That's true, but if there were several Legion comics going, I'd buy them all, despite their quality. That may seem foolish, but I wouldn't be able to stand not owning something Legion.

I can ditto most of what Jim said above. I'm very dedicated to this series, in all its forms. I've had likes and dislikes along the way. However, I don't think I could drop it. I think that'd drive me crazy.

I am currently a bit bored by the series. I long for an All Star Legion that features the classic preboot cast. *$@#%# all the anomolies!

I've been a Legion far for 30 odd years. I'm not thrilled with the changes, and am curmudgeonly enough to mumble darkly, "It ain't 'my' Legion!", but it's the only game in town, so I'm buying it for now, patiently waiting for the next reboot back to the team I grew up with.

That being said, I am not AR about it. There have been swathes of time that the Legion sucked so hard that I couldn't force myself to buy it. The whole 'Sensor is a snake' period, for instance.

Some time between the end of the Steve Lightle-drawn issues (where Projectra - Sensor first joined), and, oh, nowish, I've only picked up the occasional Legion book, and generally been nothing but disappointed, with the occasional interesting bit (Shikari, for instance, I found much more interesting that Dawnstar, having grown up on a reservation and *loathing* with a fiery passion American Indian caricatures...). But for every Shikari, there were things like Jarth and LeViathan and the never-ending stream of bigger and badder disasters, invasions and planet-explosions that I couldn't stand...

Jim, I am right there with you. I have every Legion comic except for a few of the very early Legion appearances - I have reprints of those. So...I have an almost complete run, which is the only reason I am still buying it. Still, I've noticed that when I buy comics, Legion is the only title where I think, "I bought it, so I guess I should read it." This is usually what happens right before I drop a title. Still, I have a very long unbroken string of Legion comics, so it is so hard to give it up, even though I suppose I should...

I won't drop it anytime soon, especially if there's a chance that Waid will be tying up the "loose ends" that he's been waving around in front of us for a while now.
I still get the feeling that his major emphasis is to put a bunch of stuff out there for future writers to expand on in the years to come.
Look how well that worked for the first thirty some years of Legion Lore. I know it wasn't the intention of people like Hamilton and Weisinger to make fodder for Bates and Giffen et.al. to delve deeply into but it worked magnificently anyway.
While I think Waid's script is moving pretty slowly I think there's a lot of depth to be mined by his eventual replacement...ok, maybe "replacement" is the wrong word...how about 'successor' instead?

Thank you, Set! I always despised Dawnstar and found her to be an atrocious racial stereotype but there are plenty of Dawnstar worshippers around here that will argue the point to the death.

I find the book decent, but not great; I particularly hate the slow pacing, thug Jo and the lack of camaraderie between the Legionnaires. Yeah, they fight well but they don't always act as a team. Particularly in the earlier issues.

I have no problems with Supergirl yet, since she hasn't been hogging the panels too much. Other things I appreciate are the backups (Tinya and Val, Garth and Imra), and Light Lass and Shady. Good characters, both.

None of the answers fit me.

I enjoyed the first few issues of the book, but it has slowed down. However, I'm still buying it -- hoping it will get better.

Adding Supergirl brought in new readers, but I don't think it helped the storytelling.

None of the answers fit me, neither.

There wasn't a

'Couldn't really give much of a toss about it at the moment, but my 10 year old daughter laps it up, and it means that I've got at least part of a clue as to what they talk about on Legionworld'

option.

Can't think why not.

I'm new here, but I've been reading the Legion from it's original run in Adventure comics (yes, that makes me an old fart fan) and I am enjoying this Legion.

The writing has been slow, but it has managed to keep my interest. The art is really eye pleasing and Supergirl has not dominated the comic (like Superboy did).

Initially I was not happy with yet another reboot, but my opinion changed after about four issues. This version seems to be a viable amalgamation of many prior renditions. We have a gee-whiz future, but there are some dark overtones. These kids are not kids, but neither are they adults. Late teen-early 20's is my impression. I like what we have in comparison to some of the other versions of the Legion I've had to suffer through.

Don't get me wrong, I would like to see some changes - if this is a LEGION, where the hell are all the Legionnaires? A move from first gear to fifth or sixth would be appreciated and some closure on the multitude of subplots.

you took the words right out of my mouth, brigort.

after two years, we should have more than that.

I realize TMK wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but even if earlier issues of that didn't click,by issue 10, you knew what that legion was about.

i voted on the "i buy it 'coz it's the only legion being published"

i chose that option primarily because my love affair with the concept and the title has run for almost 2 decades already and just like any relationship there're ups and downs.

i'm currently not floored with the legion but i'm still hoping it will...just like in any long-standing relationship.
