We've learned from past stories that Winathians regard solo children as freaks, shun or taunt them. How enlightened is that?

Perhaps Mekt's parents were negligent. They could have lobbied for equal treatment for solo children, formed a Parents of Solos support group, fought to reduce prejudice or formed a community of parents with solo (or mixed solo and twin) offspring.

Solo children could have been regarded as advantaged - forced to be more self-reliant and independent. There could be a whole body of literature, a fascination with solos, just as we tend to be find twins interesting here on Earth.

And what if a Winathian couple had triplets? Would that be admired or scorned?

I wonder if this treatment of solos is just fear of the different; if there is such a great advantage to being a twin, you'd think that the society would be kinder to its "disadvantaged" members.

I always wondered why a society so formulated around having twins didn't also find a reason to value identical twins over fraternal twins. Perhaps that's an indication that anything (even triplets) is okay so long as you're not alone.

Well, there's always the fact that we don't "know" that any of that's true yet in the current version, but that's semantics...

Nope...not very enlightened, but very realistic. Very human. How many people to this day treat other people as "freaks" for reasons that most of us consider "unenlightened"?

I don't know about "negligent"...or at least deliberate negligence. In the Reboot, Kirth and Dalya Ranzz were hardworking farmers. Maybe they were too busy to give it much thought; it was just "the way it is".

It is an interesting question, though--the Winathians are otherwise portrayed as some of the most free-spirted and open-minded people in the UP. And I don't remember any signs of Garth being stigmatized for marrying some "off-world Solo" or somesuch...

The Ranzzes aren't the most typical Winathians ever, either. I mean, that trip to Korbal really changed things for them, to say the least.

I wonder if less prominent solos on Winath can blend in a little easier? I wonder if it's harder for school kids than adults (most things are).

Another thought...Garth was always so interested in/concerned about Mekt. I wonder if he ever actually wished Mekt was his twin instead of Ayla. They both treated Ayla like she was the younger one.

Bah! Stupid singletons! They deserve whatever they get!
