Someone has already pointed out that Sun Boy's chest emblem "lights up" when he's using his power or his flight ring.

Heading into the Transmatter portal, the Yin-Yang symbol on his back is white on the left side. Two (story) pages later, the symbol is black on the left side. And in the panel just before the one showing the Legionnaires in the Transmatter Room, KK is playing chess with Element Lad, and what we can see of his back suggests that the symbol may be black on the left side.
"Gee, Brainy, what do you want to do tonight?"
"The same thing we do every night, Bouncing Boy: try to take over the United Planets!!"
