To be fair M'onel did ask, though I do agree with Eryk.

CK, Maybe you could attract more support with honey rather than vinegar?

Now fellas, in the perfect Utopian future there's no need to bicker. Sarcasm is as valid a tool as gushing (perhaps even more valid in the long run) and in our newly utopian society even the arrogant and closed minded should be allowed their say. Good sarcastic wit however is a rare commodity and so I suggest a rating system.

1. if it makes you laugh give it 1 point
2. if it pisses you off give it 1 point
3. if it makes you pause to think give it 2 points
5. if it's a deliberate attack at another poster subtract a point
6. if it's an attack on a Legion creator subtract 2 points

I hope this helps.

Let's get into the spirit and the fun.

What is the information packed in these Preview pages?
I see a few things to start.
Page 1-2-3 have a building rhythm, staying progressively longer with each 'moment', and introduces which 30th Century Legion this version is gonna resemble.
Page 1 has the 3 colors (and has relatively garish coloring compared to the rest of the preview) of the original Legion founders back in the scattered days of early Legion, represented by the flag, the t-shirt and the comic, being torn asunder (and the whacky alien designs of the time period).
Page 2 has a few 1950s/early 60s tropes: Ed Sullivan show, government spreading fear - flavored with xenophobia, mental illness, Anti-Asian sentiment and terrorists - wrapped inside a concern for children, the drive-in movie moment with the couple making out in the backseat of a convertible (suddenly interrupted by an ideological difference - primary color Legion thinking vs. symetrical taupe smallness). Could this be the next significant period of Legion activity? More regular appearances, the awkward innocent (random) beginning of romantic coupling (which was only smooches back then), the uncovering of Superboy's identity by his romantic interest.
Page 3 brings us to our protagonist. {Quick aside: anyone else think the protagonist's intro could well be a young Mark Waid devouring his first Legion comic late in the night and hidden?) By this time, we're at the Adventure era. He has a lava lamp, CD, Legion icons, and we stay with him for the remainder of the Preview - gaining new info about him and his world on every page - until we meet the Legion. This visual code tells us: the Legion is different from the past (the tearing of the 1994 reboot comic), but reflects Adventure Era most.

Am I reaching?
That's just how I read the first bit, trying to figure some kind of logic behind the anachronisms and scattershots. What story are these pages telling?

(And, yes, I LOVE that a 7-page preview is so layered that I can enjoy it any which way!)

Yes, I missed class today. Is it showing?

Thanks! Couldn't help grabbing the first new pic of Garth that I saw. Just had to make the colors more lively.

And let us know what you'd like for an Avatar and we can set you up. Anything you like!

I believe Barry was referring to my new Avatar which I snagged as soon as I got to work this morning and could make a good scan (300 dpi) of that splash page.

Lots of gushing is never helpful. In ANYTHING.

Hi Barry!
I absolutely love your art in the new preview. Everyone looks great and the costumes are fantastic. I was very happy to see Lyle in the group. Is there anyway we can see an image of Lyle's uniform or would describe it?

Hey Barry I have but one complaint with your art and that is Lyle. Now this isn't Lyle's costume right otherwise it seems like a waste on him.But the rest is great especially that Lightning Lad though I was kinda hoping for his cape

Just wanted to congratulate you Barry on the first step into your new Legion World. I haven't felt so enthused in awhile. The splash on page 7 is so majestic.

Everyone at Legion_3004 sends their support, buddy!

ack.. that World wasn't supposed to be capitalized... makes it sound like subliminal product placement. Only now "Eat at Joe's" is "Post at Legion World". Heh!

Hi Barry!

I have a question - if one of the pairs of feet at the top of that splash page belongs to Ultra Boy... who does the other pair belong to?

Thanks.

What a fantastic idea Tenzil! laugh

Since we're talking about Lyle (who we of course assume will be called Invisible Kid soon)was that pose of him flying upward like the old Superboy-in-a-circle logo on purpose? I liked it but wondered if you meant for readers like me to "get it".

...and thanks Barry. That snippet about a sci-cop dad sounded pretty cool. We'll get a sort of an insider's view of how the new version of the Science Police works as the story develops.

Every little bit just gets more and more interested. Considering the anticipation factor this sucker better be good.

I thought was supposed to be symbolic moreso than funny. Though it is slightly humorous from the fact that Mark Waid wrote LSH #0.

In a response to what Tromium said, quoted immediately above, I wrote that I was trying to hold in "my Schadenfreude, but it ain't easy."

I let my being snarky -- yes, it happens on occasion -- trip me up. Not looking closely, I thought that "LSH v4 #0" referred to the first issue of TMK's take on the Legion, which I have thoroughly disliked ... okay, detested ... since its sixth issue, where they put forward my, erhm, twisted sister.

When I got the "Special" today, I realized my mistake. The issue being ripped was indeed the first of the reboot, the "zero issue." Symbolic of this being a new start, however depressing in an Our-Moms-All-Did-That sense.

Kitson's art is well-turned and evocative (unlike that of Giffen Phase II), their choice made sense in the "Special," and I mis-aimed.

I wonder if that explains the funny look on his face when I had him sign that one at the comicon last month.

Time for my two cents.

I'm still cautious, but at this point I like it. It sets up the society well, and at least one of our characters. In that last splash page, everyone was recognizable, and before I forget...

Vi was there!!! Yay!!! ShrinkingViolet

It's going to be so hard to wait until the end of December.

Hi all - thanks again for the kind words on the artwork! I'm especially pleased that some of the visual 'clues' I threw in are already being picked up on!

Here's a quick attempt to answer the last batch of questions....

You're right, we haven't seen Lyle's costume yet - and at this point he hasn't adopted a codename either...more to come on those!

As to the unidentified pair of feet - they belong to a character very few have guessed at so far - he'll be around in the first issues, but his story won't really start to unfold until a few months into the run. smile

I did mean avatar, not icon, sorry! My internet savvy is sadly lacking, but I'll learn as we go along....I hope! smile Thanks for the offer of help making one - I was thinking of doing a quick cartoon...maybe of me ducking behind the drawing board smile

We wouldn't have dared tear up a comic anyone BUT Mark wrote! laugh

It's great reading all your comments and having folks to share our enthusiasm with now some pages are actually out there! smile

Cheers
Barry
