I used to write the adventures of my own super-hero team from about age twelve strait on into high-school. I had one character that was totally modelled after Cosmic Boy, but also after myself (or as I would have liked to have seen myself) and was a blatant Mary Sue in my stories. Cos was my inspiration!

OK....heres a real one. As many of you know, I do quite a bit of artwork. Well the first characters I created (about 20 years ago) were complete rip-offs of the fatal five (mine were called the Evil 8). Now thats kinda geeky, but I STILL HAVE AND USE THOSE CHARACTERS!!!!! Now they evolved quite a bit since that time and they are no longer F5 rip-offs; but still, thats how they came to be.

two approximate quotes i use at work (i mumble them so if people ask, i pretend i said something else)
when terminating someone: (from the Emerald Empress) "maybe if you picked your enemies better, you wouldn't have to die like this"
when annoyed by staff's personal lives at work: (from the Time Trapper) "love is so ephemeral. now hate, hate lasts."

[MLLASH] { Now, Loser and dedman's facts I can see, but the REST of you ... come ON. You expect us to believe that stuff ...? {grin} }
Well, mine's true, and about my only instance of comics weirdness, let alone Legion. (If you don't count my jumping off the tile retaining wall in my side yard, wearing a bathrobe tied around my neck, when I was six. First George-Reeves-ish attempt at flight {g})
I threw out dozens of comics, several times. I didn't want to admit I liked these characters, and that this was far from a mark of immaturity for a 30something. Then I found, on a fast-expanding Net, just how many share every interest imaginable. And I started, in the mid-'90s, actually keeping what I bought from those back-issue bins.

I've actually considered naming my children after Legionnaires.

I keep a journal of original Legion stories, using whatever characters I want...usually in some sort of social setting. I reopned the Legion academy and created a wriiten "Legion Academy Code of Conduct", especially for the young, reckless trainees. A few of years ago (02/10/3001) the Taines had a baby girl (Lulu), but they kept the entire thing very low keyed. All characters usually get together annually resulting in both positive and negative interaction. Every time Hart Druiter (Nemesis Kid) shows up, there's usually some sort of altercation. He and Val (among others) cannot be in the same room for very long. Anyway, my last entry was last January...it's been a busy year for me!

I just found this, and forgot I had it! I have friends on the job I gave Legion character names to, based on appearence or personality. I used to have WAY TOO MUCH time on my hands!

When I was a kid I made my own Science Police id as featured on the cover of the Good Cop/Bad Cop issue from the Levitz/Giffen days. They were little flip-top things with a little hologram inside. I made mine from cardboard and the hologram was cellophane with the design done in whiteout colored blue with a marker. It folded up when it was closed but when you opened it up it pulled out tight and kept the cardboard at 90 degree angle.

My daughter's name is Olivia and I secretly smile that "vi" is in the name.
I also love the name Ayla and entertain the idea of naming a second girl after her.
Everytime I drive behind a Lexus car and see the "L" insignia I think, "There's a Legion car."
During these cold, Canadian winters, sometimes at night in bed, I imagine Sun Boy warming up the house.
OK, now I'm certifiably imbalanced.

when replacing the window panes in my house we thought, just for a tiny moment, when asked what design we wanted on the frosted glass asking for a Legion L

If I get a Pug when I have my own apartment (a strong possibility!), I may name him either Gym'll, Validus or Drake. If I get a cat, I might go with Ayla... And a deep dark secret that not even my girlfriend knows about, is that not only do I have names for my sons picked out, I have names for my daughters (Audrey and Gwen, after Audrey Hepburn and Gwen Stacy ). Sad, I know...

I work with a guy named Drake Burroughs. Ironically enough, he was a hothead -- so when I nicknaked him Wildfire, it fit his personality perfectly, even if he didn't know the reference.
I dated a girl in university whose last name was Cusimano. She hated that my pet name for her was "Gigi" (but at least she got the joke. She's a hardcore Legion fan herself now)
And my last cat's name was Streaky.
Funny how much the Legion reflects itself in our "real" lives, isn't it?

In 6th grade, I was pals with a guy who was a compulsive liar. I lived in the boonies, and had no cable TV, and had few friends that did at the time. I did know that TV guide didn't list ALL the various cable channels in those days (1980ish).
So my pal, another DC comics fan, would brag about all the cartoons on cable - direct adaptions of issues of DC comics: GL, JLA, Legion, etc. And I believed him (hadn't seen through the liar part yet).
So later that year, when I first met another Legion fan, I asked him if he followed the comics or the TV series! I still recall his dumbfounded look.
The childhood friend Exnihil never had.

My old ATM pin number was based on Wildfire and Ultra Boy ... is that weird? I also sneak in Legion symbols and interlac at work all the time when I'm drawing storyboards. Sometimes I'll actually use Legionnaires - I just drew a commercial for Lifetime TV using Ayla and Vi sunbathing in a convertable. Sometimes the Legion stuff I draw ends up on the air for a split second (subliminal advertising!)- click the following link and when the movie loads, pause it at the very beginning... Insomniac:Tokyo

When I was about 12 or so I used the Wildfire pinup in his spotlight issue (v2, LSH 270'ish) to make pinups of all Legionnaires (including females, who didn't turn out that well). I then cut out all of these figures and put them in an album in the order of Legion membership.

Actually, my above comment should've been "is that weird enough?" Considering the other things on this thread, I wasn't sure if mine qualified

yup, you're slipping drake but you can still take an active part ... the origins of bell bottoms (and their relation to sailors/sea man) are starting up, as well as Perez's mangled vision of Tinya (SANS bellbottoms -- gasp!)

As a young teen, I would make lists of my favorite Legionnaires and update them frequently, based on recent depictions in the comix.
In my adult life, I briefly dated someone who turned out to be fairly verbally/emotionally abusive... one day, in the heat of an argument, he grabbed a Legion comic and ripped it in half. Although it was easily replaced, the ripping of the comic was the final straw... if this guy disrespected me so much that he would rip something I love in half just to be dramatic (well, he *was* an actor), then I was done with him and he could kiss my ass.
Why are you laughing at me? It's unkind, as well as puzzling!

See, if he had known anything about comics, he would have gone for your copy of ADVENTURE # 247.
