I say that Polar Boy should nay MUST be in the re-imagined legion.
*He has great powers *He fits the name criteria *He is an Adventure era character *He was previously a legionnaire for a reasonable amount of time *The white look of his costumes would be aesthetically unique within the new legion *The hella-kewl spiky icicle hair Giffen gave him would fit in with this new "indie-rock" legion *I love his over-eager, need to please personality *He SHOULD have been a classic adventure era legionnaire in the first place.
Or perhaps he already is in the legion. Mysterious pair of boots anyone?

Hell if Iceman was in the X-Men for so long, and in EVERY incarnation of the X-Men, I say:

If you've read any of the fanfic story I've been working on this week you'll see the I too have a deep love for the Mallors. Shady always got lots of face time but Grev got lost in the shuffle way too often for my taste. (Ard Mallor is my own creation) I was thrilled when we got to see Grev married and happy for a short while preboot but I'm so mad at Steve Lightle for killing him in the reboot! (and I love Steve's Legion work normally)
Bring back the Mallor clan!!

Shadow Kid, I'm with you on Polar Boy. It's time to right that wrong from the Adventure Era. Polar Boy for Legionnaire! And not the way Levitz wrote him, either.
But the real question is this: If Brek is in the Legion, who will lead the Subs?!?

Hey it works for me. Of course he could end up a Chinese Woman in an orange cape but what the hell.

Oooh, that has possilibities! Since Waid doesn't want him in the Legion, he could work perfectly in the Subs! Good call, Eryk!

I always liked Polar Boy and Grev Mallor is cool too! I remember how Grev and Pol Krinn began to bond at the academy out at Montauk. I always wondered though how Grev and Myg would interact. According to the "5-year gap" recaps, I think their memberships overlaped. I know they were both Subs for a while under the leadership of Cos and Lydda...does anyone remember that spotlight issue on the Subs? (It may have been an Annual edition).
Anyway, I hope at the very least we see Brek again.

Polar Boy, Bouncing Boy, Shadow Kid and Night Girl sound like a great substitute legion. Either Fire Lad or Stone Boy could complete the team as the fifth member. Or maybe Porcupine Pete? He'd be an interesting foil for Chuck... Lydda and Grev would make a terrific sub-team as well.
I'd like to see Chlorophyll Kid make it to the 'big leagues' this time around. Maybe as a human-appearing plant.
Infectious Lass should also be an official Legionnaire, IMO.

I think Brek and Fire lad always got a fairly rough deal I dont think there powers were anymore damgerous than chucking lightning bolts about or ripping off you arm to bludgen people.

Absolutely. Ditto for Night Girl, whose limitation should've been fairly simple to accomodate.
I always sort of inferred that there must've been personality/character defects (or at least the perception of some defect) that made the Legionnaires reject Brek, Lydda, Staq, Ral, Dag, Drura and Pete.
*All* of them have powers that are at *least* as useful as Triplicate Girl's, Bouncing Boy's and even Shadow Lass's.
Then again, every once in a while the Legionnaires just plain got off on being snobby.

Triplicate Girl had the advantage of getting there early. Bouncing Boy was rejected before proving himself. And Shadow Lass earned her membership in battle (as well as being a planetary champion).

I've never understood how the Legion could accept Sun Boy but reject Polar Boy.

I think the main issue with Polar Boy was that he was over the age limit at the time.

Just to be all Giles I went and looked it up. Now I suppose we need to point out for the first few adventures the legion were technically a pack of shits with their wacky sence of what consituted a joke. Anyway when Polar Boy tried out he frosted up the room and the poor dears had to wrap up in blankets then he was told by Sun Boy (Of all people) "Your power is unusual but it might disable us at a critical moment!" WTF most of their powers were technically able to do this. However in the legions defence Brek spent the night camped out in front of their headquarters to be first in a que of 3 people so his intelligence may have been in question. It was fire boy who was knocked back "Because his power was too dangerous and might cause accidental holocausts" (And those are the ones you have to look out for)

Eryk makes a great point on why some lesser-powered Legionnaires made the cut, and Todd makes an excellent point on why some greater-powered ones didn't. The Legion really was a bit snobby in the early days.
They just plain didn't LIKE Brek, I always thought. It happens. Fortunately, they warmed to him. (pun intended)
I'm all for Brek... and ANY of the characters mentioned thus far in this thread... being a vital part of the new WaK era.

I agree, I think it's time these characters got their due. Especially Brek; he didn't seem to have any problems controlling his powers in any later Adventure era appearances. And we all know he can limit the area he's affecting.

Then again, every once in a while the Legionnaires just plain got off on being snobby. Brek's power was considered to be out of control. Had he applied years later, after the Legion Academy was opened, I'm sure they would have sent him there. Staq's powers were probably too similar to Dirk's, so that may be why he was rejected. Dag is rebatable, because turning to stone and being unable to move is difficult. Drura actually got them sick, so they were leary of her. Lydda, well, her powers required an extra something special to be useful, and people with super-strength were already abundant on the team.

I think it would be fitting for Polar Boy to decline an offer to join the Legion.

Yeah! In *this* reality, the subs all snub the Legion and form their own kick-ass super-club. The teams'll rumble a couple of times, there'll be a Romeo/Juliet romance and an exchange of members... then eventually the two teams will merge in some time of crisis.

Its good to see all this love for Grev.
I thought I was the only one who saw the greatness behind that mohawk toting hunk.
As for Polar Boy, I think it was just an unfortunate set of circumstances that kept him from the team. If he'd been introduced just a little bit earlier I think he would have been on the team for sure. I always think of him as a classic legionnaire even though he didn't actually make the team until the mid-eighties.

I think the only time his age was called into question was post boot when they thought he was too young but he was actually just short.
