What's with the coloring? Particularly Kara's S-shield Colored by the team that did the old Superfriends cartoon, maybe...?

According to Adam's significant other, Allison, they won't be posting the variant cover to the Hughes group until after SDCC. Supposedly they have a flat color copy that was done for Previews.

finally Shadow Lass is gunning for taking over the leadership and I have been waiting since the Terry Shoemaker drew her in her solo spotlight alongside Mon-El! I am definitely looking forward to it.

I agree. Finally, Shady gets a shot, and I think this Shady is the version most qualified for leadership.

I think Shadow Lass as leader would make for some great storytelling. By which I mean I think she'd be disastrous as a leader. Field leader, sure; she might be great at that. But can you see her making nice with the UP and Earthgov and the SPs? Not this Shadow Lass.

Not a very democratic system if Shady gets elected, since she's currently tied for fifth place with Dream Girl. Lightning Lad is clearly the people's choice.

Mind you, she's tied with DEAD Dream Girl

I'm anticipating Dead Dream Girl's election to be the big shock ending!

If I can ever get LW to load, here's the preliminary image for the variant provided by Allison. She stressed this is still in the very early stages. Black and White: Preliminary Colors:

I have to say I'm disappointed that the cover showcases Kara and none of the other Legionnaires. But I imagine that sales will definitely see a bump into the 55K range again for this issue.

It's nice enough, but it looks more like a Supergirl pin-up rather than a SLSH cover. I mean, Barry's cover most likely has something to do with the story inside, but this one doesn't appear to. I prefer it when covers reflect the interior content, but that's just me

Yeah, it would have been nice to at least see Adam's take on Barry's costumes.

You know, it's possible that we here at LW are responsible for Shady's bid for power. Back when I started a Legion Leader election poll I chatted with Barry about Shadow Lass's surprising lead (early on) in the poll. Almost everybody that hears or sees something about that says. "Shadow Lass? I never thought of her as Leader! Interesting idea." Betcha even Mark Waid probably said something remarkably similar if Barry brought it up. Of course her going loud and public about it is probably a red herring but it still ought to get the readers thinking about it for the future. Sweet. ...and as far as Kara being in the book for the long term, I wonder...is there going to be a seperate book to go along with the cartoon? If not then they may be obliged to drop her to keep from confusing the new younger audience or conversely we may be blessed with TWO Legion comics One featuring "Young Superman" as the headliner and the other with a 'young superwoman' in the main title. I could deal with it either way BUT I'm betting we'll see a Legion without an "S" shield in it rather than seeing DC take a risk on losing potential sales just because the "S" is on the wrong gender. ??...loose thoughts sink plots?...

Looks like a dramatic issue. Must say the variant cover, though, interests me only because it's a variant cover, not via its depiction.
Shadow Lass would be an interesting leader--this version at least. She's already shown interest in the Legion's political situation, plus I'm all for not playing nice with authority.

It might be better for the Legion (& their original ideals) to be at odds with the SP and UP, as long as it's not outright warfare - so I'm standing firm in my support for Shadow Lass. Besides, she won't let any animosity get out of hand since SHE'S THE SP SPY! Also, the ending we "won't see coming" - Invisible Kid?

Adam sure does beautiful work!!! I would have liked to have seen his take on some of my costumes too The variant cover is partly to draw attention to the fact that this issue also starts a VERY big new story line (that we had to be very careful not to give too much away about in the solicitation). I think you guys will enjoy all the major developments!

Both covers are cool, though why is Kara such a punchy bully? Just because Brainy, Cos, and Saturn Girl don't want to go out with her...
My guess at the new storyline: Supergirl's bum will become permanently attached to a rock! Hijinks and destruction ensue when she tries to walk through doorways and narrow alleys.

Just in case any decision-makers at DC ever happen to read this, here's my $0.02:
I don't (as my sister says) give a rat about variant covers. The Legion could have a variant cover drawn by Michelangelo himself and inked by Mary Tyler Moore and it wouldn't stir the slightest amount of interest in me. If it's a good story I'll be happy with the regular cover, if it's not a good story a special Collectors! cover won't help.

I think an extra cover means people like Scott, me and several other AR collectors are going to buy even more of one issue than they would otherwise.
Instant sales jump!
That said, I'm enjoying the series immensely and thus I'm confident that there's a story to be read and savored as well. I can't say that's always been the case with other series and variant covers in the past (and probably the future).

Quick off-topic question about this: I think an extra cover means people like Scott, me and several other AR collectors are going to buy even more of one issue than they would otherwise. What does 'AR' mean? I've seen the term here and there, but I've never known what it was referring to.

Being retentive at the pooper, so to speak. From Freud's usage meaning obsessive behaviour.

Oh, okay. I was trying to think of some kind of specifically comic-book-related term. Thanks.
