Tommy Franks is an ASSHOLE!!!!!!!!!
"As a parent, I know it is not only my right, but also my responsibility to keep an eye on and protect my children," Franks said. "If I know where my kids are, where they're going, how they're driving and how fast they're traveling, I can counsel them before an accident occurs. I can help protect them."
He should be instilling common sense in his children from the day they're old enough to communicate. This makes it sounds like he wants to call them on the phone and talk to them WHILE they're driving to "counsel" them to slow down.
Remember when "car phones" were only for the extrememly wealthy??? When I leave my house, if anyone wants to get in touch with me, they can leave a message on my cassete-recorder answering machine (which they don't even make anymore)-- AT HOME.
I know it's a separate issue, but people talking on cell phones in public places, while they're driving, or while you're talking with them just irritate me. My best friend used to do that with a walkie-talkie 15 years ago, and I didn't like it then. It's like having someone call you on the phone-- only to put you on hold because someone else is calling in and they've got call waiting-- and then they leave YOU waiting for 5 minutes or more. (The more complex our technology becomes, the STUPIDER people seem to get...)
Also, I'm SICK up to here with the idea that anyone 13 years or older is considered "children". Parents' jobs-- if they do them at all-- is to teach their kids early on how to think for themselves-- and then LET THEM DO IT, and trust they'll do right. Too many these days don't want the responsibility of teaching their kids, yet at the same time want to control everything they do-- as if they were robots instead of people.
