This is where the trophy room forum merged into right? So I've been helping my uncle sort through his comic books from the 1950s - 70s and he's been giving me first dibs on his collection so I asked for Legion, X-Men and Avengers among others (I love team books). Guess what we uncovered over the weekend? He gave it to me with a bunch of other issues from the era. Pretty cool, huh?

That's great, MEL! Did he have a big collection of Legion and the others you were interested in? Nothing better than an old comics find!

That is so cool MEL. Does your uncle know what a find he had there? My copy is quite a bit more beat up but at least I have one. No matter how many times the story has been reprinted, holding an original is just something else.

I've heard of some of these collections of Silver Age comics where the owner stamped his name on the cover or inside the front cover. Normally this would lower the value but in some cases it helps give a larger collection a pedigree and actually increases the value, especially if the name stamped was the only owner of the books.

Thanks folks, I'm really excited to go through the old books. Re: the stamp, I don't have it with me at work, but Scott's right, its somebody's name (not my uncle's) stamped onto the cover. I'll let you guys know who it is when I get home... FC, the collections aren't complete but its still fun to see some of the amazing covers and hyperbolic phrases on the covers. I got about 2 'short boxes' full of Legion appearances in Adventure Comics/Action Comics/Superman books. I was suprised at the number of times they pop up throughout the years in backup stories. Valor, I'm really digging a lot of the retro costumes I've come across. I actually like Saturn Girl's retro black and yellow outfit quite a bit. Bedlam Lad - My brother picked up the Paul Frank mat in Hawaii but I've seen it here in the states a couple of times. You might want to check the Paul Frank stores ( www.paulfrank.com) and I think I've seen it on eBay - though right now I only see two of the other designs (check out the link): eBay auctions Lash - I'm to biggest comic fan of the 4 nephews and have been helping him the most with bagging and sorting his collection so...

Geez, the best I ever scored off a relative was a few old Archies from the 60's. Not that they weren't perfectly nice...
Let us hear if you make any other cool finds.

My grandma threw out her old comics - Golden Age stuff like Green Lantern and God knows what else.
Congrats, M.E.L.! That's a real find!

I once found a SUPERMAN ANNUAL from about 1961 at my grandmother's house. It must have been left behind by some distant cousins. All I remember is that it had a story featuring a blonde Superman Jr., not the dark-haired version who later appeared in WORLD'S FINEST.
