On the Mark Waid forum, there is a current talk about Valor and End of an Era.... when I threw the line. I said I'd love to see Kurt Busiek tackling the Legion in the future. That's what he said:
I expressed an interest in writing the new Legion series, when and if there is one, after TRINITY, and was told that that would have been a great assignment for me -- but it had just been given, the previous day, to someone else.
Ah well. Maybe another time.

So... there is something coming. And it sounds like Johns to me, somehow. But I'd prefer to see Robinson or Busiek on that anyday.

Damn. A Busiek Legion would have been a beautiful thing.

This is very cruel. Oh man, Busiek might have done a couple of years of Legion? I'm going to cry.

I might just be optimistic, but I can't help but feel that Busiek will definitely have his shot at the Legion sooner or later. I'll be looking forward to it.

I'd rather he get a chance to do it from the start than have to maintain someone else's misguided attempt (see also Jim Shooter).

It's probably unrelated, but here's another tip from Didio on what he THINKS it is the most successful take on the Legion (I disagree completely, of course, based on DC's own track sales record). This was today at MegaCon (courtesy of Newsarama):
QUESTION: Why does it seem like the re-introduction of the same ideas?
Dan Didio – They are the same ideas but shown in a new light. Take the Legion for example. They are important to DC, and Legion always worked best when it appeared with Superboy. Superboy & the Legion of Super-Heroes was the most successful, so that’s what we want to get back to.
QUESTION: You’re not just letting stories in that you liked when you were a kid?
Jimmy Palmiotti – We remember the stories we read and we try to integrate that into the stories now.

PALMIOTTI?!!? I see Palmiotti's name up there. OMG, is he going to be involved? I'm a fan....
"GrayPal" wrote that awesome HAWKMAN arc (Johns' run sucked ass in comparison) that brought back all the golden-age villains, and their HEROES FOR HIRE was incredible (and went straight into the toilet after they left).

I don't think they will be involved - I think he was just answering a general question about this trend now to revive the "originals". But, yeah, they are pretty good and their Freedom Fighters was much better than I expected. It would be a good monthly, given a chance.

In absolute terms, they're right. The Legion sold best in the 60s and 70s, with Superboy. But times change, and it doesn't seem certain to me that a company should base its marketing on what worked 40 years ago.

[/b]Yeah, but in relative numbers, it sold better when Superboy was not on the title, least as main character. And to have Conner, or Kon-L as the new Superboy on the title is wrong on so many levels...

Here is some extra news on a new Legion ongoing for 2010 (first time it is definitely mentioned - and it might be an indication that Johns or Robinson will be handling it) - from Newsarama coverage of WonderCon 09:
Asked about Legion of Super-Heroes, Robison said that there will be Legion material coming up in Superman. And ongoing Legion presence will be seen in 2010, Robinson said.

Prediction:
"Superman" becomes "Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes".
This would match Robinson's quote to Didios' one reported earlier...
"I like stuff that doesn't exist."
