We're using the ADVENTURE COMICS version. Who wins?

Well with Duplicate Boy duplicating Nemesis Kid's power to defeat a single opponent, they would be evenly matched. Then Duplicate Boy could also duplicate another power to knock out NK.

I'd have to give the first win to Nemesis Kid.

Quellu's power is far greater (he's got the power to "duplicate" any non-magical super power in the universe, at a power level including Superboy's, but apparently below the level of Validus), but Nemesis Kid's power explicitly enables him to beat any oneopponent, by adapting to whatever his opponent might be able to bring into play. Nemesis Kid doesn't needto know what power Duplicate Boy would use against him. Most likely, he'd simply be able to strip Quellu of his Duplicate power before he uses it, and could knock him out after that.

On the surface, yes.

No. The description of their powers clearly states that Nemesis Kid can beat any one opponent-- and that includes even any single opponent with the ability to copy any power in the universe. Nemesis Kid's power'd click in before Duplicate Boy's, and thusly beats Quellu.

If Duplicate Boy were cleverer than we'd seen him in the past, he could Duplicate the power of Triplicate Girl and bust up Nemesis Kid using the same technicality she exploited.

He can only beat any *one* opponent, after all.

Don't barf....

I voted for Dupe to beat Nem because good always triumphs over evil.

I even threw up in my mouth a little bit as I typed that.....

A bit of an off-topic note... one of the Triplicate Girls (or the surviving Una) will reveal herself to be a Duplicate Damsel in Lo3W. Source.

I'd give the nod to Nemesis Kid.

I remember when Duplicate Boy tried to take on Validus imitating his power, and he couldn't handle it (ending up in a coma). Lacking the experience of Nemesis Kid's powers, Duplicate Boy would be at a disadvantage (unless he went Triplicate on the Kid).

Nemesis Kid possesses a certain amount of competence and basic life skills. Duplicate Boy does not. Therefore it doesn't matter if we can think of something Duplicate Boy *could* do to win, because he wouldn't do that, and Nemesis Kid would win. I picked 'KO' instead of 'death', though, because what's the point of killing Duplicate Boy?

Question.... do both of these guys have to will the power shift to happen, or does it happen automatically? Would reflexes kick the energy into gear?

Plunder Ploy of the Fatal Five! S/LSH #219. Yes, he tried to duplicate Validus' power, which overwhelmed him, but the Persuader also slashed him with the atomic axe. A double whammy that put him into a coma. Brainy said that what happened to him put him beyond medical help. Saturn Girl saved him by telepathically activating his own power to duplicate Superboy's invulnerability.

Another clue is given in that story, when he states that his "power duplicating body sensed emanations of raw power clear across town" in reference to Validus. If his body can sense power, I bet it automatically starts to duplicate it, unless he wills otherwise.

So, now the question remains, what would Nemesis Kid do, if faced off against Validus?

Nemesis Kid gains the power to defeat any single foe, but not necessarily the skill or experience to use that power effectively. For example in KK#1 he gained the power to launch powerbolts which would have atomized Val if he had been able to land one--which he did not. Thus his arrogance and over reliance on the literal implication of his power makes him beatable as Lournu, Jeckie and Val have discovered.

It would be fun to explore more pair ups like this, but Dupe and Nem are quite unique.

What about Shadow Lass verses Night Girl, during the day?

Hot Girl fight!

The LSH and their enemies are pretty diverse if you cross boots and use the whole history. I could see a few match ups that could be worth haggling over. Not that I want to see a VS forum like I've seen on other boards but it might be an interesting feature to add for the sake of the occasional debate.

I thought that Nemesis Kid's power came from an alchemical potion that he created ... isn't alchemy a form of magic?

If Duplicate Boy can't duplicate magical powers ...
