At my shop, the Legion covers just don't pop the way other titles do. I think the art is fine, but the logo tends to get lost -- this is especially ture on issue 12.
Would anyone else like to see something a bit more dramatic? Or do most people like the retro look of it?
I'd like to see something with more energy.

The logo which ran from (old series) 280-313 was interesting because it incorporated the 'L' designation on the Legion flag IMHO

Sometimes I wonder how come some characters have "classic" logos that almost NEVER change (and when they do tinker with it, USUALLY, the "classic" one comes back eventually), while others, they keep changing them with every new fad and they never seem to have one that stands out.
SUPERMAN is the former. LEGION (like BATMAN) is the latter.
With SUPERMAN, they started out with something that can easily be described as the "rough draft". Over a period of time, it was slowly refined, a little here, a little there, but still basically the SAME design... until WHAM! They "got it"-- and KEPT it that way-- ever since! So, when they've messed with it-- like the Byrne-era ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN or the current ALL STAR SUPERMAN-- it just stands out like a sore thumb and DON'T look right!
BATMAN went thru a number of modifications over its first few decades... my personal favorite is the one where the Bat-head is turned to the side and the "cape" is held up, almost like Bela Lugosi. But starting in the 70's, and continuing to today, the character has gone thru more logos than seems sensible. There's a REASON logos get trademarked-- you want something RECOGNIZABLE!
I recall when SANDMAN MYSTERY THEATRE was coming out. They kept messing with the logo design with every 4-part serial. I kept ALMOST missing so many issues of that thing (this was before I started ordering 3 months in advance) it was absurd.
Of course, there's NO logical explanation for when the LEGION had 2 books per month... I was ordering them in advance... and for several YEARS running, my comics-shop guy kept NOT pulling LEGIONNAIRES for me! More than once I asked, half-joking (but half-NOT)-- "Is it some kind of mental GLITCH with you, or what???" (I had to keep pulling my copies off the shelf.)

From my experience at the store, it's not the logo as much as it is the cover that grabs my attention.

I think part of that is because when a logo is doing its job, you shouldn't really be conscious of it. Profh's Superman example being a prime case. For myself, I like the current logo...but I am way beyond the point where I would be unbiased enough to have any guess how it would feel to a newcomer. It does look a little retro. I have no idea if that would be off-puting to a potential new reader.

I'm a fan of this logo design. It wowed me when I first saw it and I can now identitfy with it enough that I missed the headshot element on #12 at the store.

A "little retro"? It fits with the Chrysler hood ornaments of the 1930s.
Not that there's anything wrong with that, as they say, and as such. But for denoting a series set 1000 years in the future? I never felt it quite worked.

I like it, but feel LSH covers in general have been lacking in "pep".
However, that is changing... the curent # 12 rocked (I liked the modified logo which "dropped out" the box in order to not obscure the art.
# 13's "shadows cover" is going to be awesome.
The Violet cover looks great.
And we've all already raved on about the Blok, Tyroc, Dawnstar cover.
The covers themselves are improving. The logo was already perfect.
