I am wondering whether anyone has any info on the possible return of Lar Gand (or of a related character). Can the character with a mantle we have barely seen in Legion 2 (as a Pivotal element of a coming crisis in Dream Girl's vision) be Lar Gand? And if not, are there any plans for bringing him back?
Waid was the author of D.O.A. back before zero hour, so he had the character suffer enough (all the three versions of it). Can we have it back in some new interesting role after the last appalling years? There should be an interesting way of using a one-thousand-years-of-solitude (Garcia Marquez is just an amateur laugh ) super-powered being for a change. Last time was... I can't even remember smile

I've heard that Lar won't appear until the latest "DC Crisis" is concluded. Guess he has a role in that and it will lead to his intro in the Legion. Perhaps someone at one of the Cons can verufy that or add more info.

"Hey Jim! Get Mon out of the Zone!! And...when do we get Condo back?"

If the guy in the vision isn't Lar then it could be a while before he appears again. Whatever is upcoming at DC that will involve multiple crossovers is being avoided by the Legion's satffers this year. Mark has said that he's going to keep time travel and the continuity headaches out of the LSH for now.
Maybe we'll see some more Legionnaires show up in Year2 if we're lucky. I'm kind of hoping Lar will lead a new wave of classic legionnaires into the book. Personally I'd like to see everyone from Wildfire to Kinetix back in the fold...Isn't Zoe the last new kid before Shakiri?..or was that Kid QII ?

I believe Ferro and Wildfire joined after Zoe and before Shikari (unless you're just talking about original postboot members).

Then Gear and later Timberwolf (and Superboy)after Shikari.

I think YK was referring to completely new characters. But still there's Gates, Magno, KQII, Monstress, and Thunder after Zoe and before Shikari.

I'm just as happy if they keep Lar out UNTIL after whatever continuity shake-ups DC has in mind are over with, rather than have them pull a mid-series continuiity "adjustment."

The childhood friend Exnihil never had.

Good lord! (choke)
Were their really that many after Zoe? Wow.
Yeah I was kind of making a mixed continuity statement. Thanks Eric...I had even forgotten Gear was a Legionnaire for a few panels.

I agree totally, Kent. I'd rather wait than see a bunch of "adjustments" in the series made by editorial decree.

Thanks to all for your thoughts.
I am not sure about the mysterious figure in dream girl's vision, but let's see what happens.

Thanks for using the cool Daxamite name and not that kryptonian name. *ugh* jk guys jk. Plus it's Waid...we all know it's gonna be Mon-El not Lar Gand. wink

I'd love to see him in this series, he's always been one of my all time favorite legionnaires. I thought he was cool even when he was the geeky door-to-door salesman (Bob Cobb)and when he finally got a code name I was thrilled. Valor was such a cool name for him...then he got turned into a historical religious figure and had to hide his identity and went back to the geeky name. *sigh* That was one of the dumbest moves ever. -should have been the other way around, Lar Gand as the "World Seeder" and Valor as an anonymous superhero...but NOOOoooo...(darnit)

I hope like heck Waid has a killer idea for the strory arc where he brings back the Daxamites 'cause you know if he doesn't do it then some writer a couple of years from now will.

I'm still focusing on the guy in Nura's vision. I could see Waid constructing a scenario where the Legion, and maybe the entire U.P., are divided over a mysterious, messiah-like figure who goes by the name Mon-EL and *claims* to be the one, true descendent of the legendary Superman, but whose real origins and intentions are ambiguous.

Another crazy thought: maybe the reason the Legion can't identify the mystery man is because he comes from another universe/timestream/dimension/ZONE. For example, the idea of "rim worlds" containing portals to other dimensions and time tracks, and "rim ghosts", i.e., people who inhabit the space between them in some sort of "phantom zone", were among the concepts contained in a series of Silver Age pulp sci-fi books written by A. Bertram Chandler in the 1950s/1960s. If by any chance Waid is familiar with Chandler's "Rim World" series, it's conceivable we'll see Lar sooner rather than later.

That's an interesting take. I loved the "Rim Worlds" books when I read them as a teen.

The vision doesn't give us much to go on but I could easily imagine the "invaders" following the advice of a mysterious ghostly figure (phantom zone) who claims to have great knowledge of the past and a vision of the future.

Heck, we see people do it all ther time these days, why not a thousand years from now?

YK, it's also worth noting that Saturn Girl is on the rimworld. In preboot times, she was the one who first released Lar from the Zone (albeit temporarily) in Adv. #300. Postboot, SG was the first to see his ghostly figure in Legionnaires Annual #2. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

The earlier connection between Lar and Imra is a very tenuous basis upon which to speculate, but Waid would certainly be aware of it.

So theoretically a similar chain of events in the current continuity could lead to Imra being responsible for unleashing Interstellar War. Very interesting thought. This would have the Legion fighting for legitimacy and maybe even their very survival in a world/universe gone mad.

Remember Glorith's vision of Valor as her universe conquering escort? (Coleen Duran's wonderful artwork, I wish I had access to an image of that to link up)

I'm taking their word that Mon-el's appearance is being delayed because of various time related stuff that's going to happen in DCU's present. "Superman" is also very concentrated on the Phantom Zone right now so I'm sure they want to steer clear of all that when they introduce Mon (although I can't imagine how they're going to avoid a Hawkman situation considering how much the 20th century Lar was tied to the postboot Legion's M'onel).

YK good points. This war may turn the Legion from an obscure youth movement into "real" heroes in the eyes of the adult public.

All the cookies, teeny stuff I'm complaining about may spoil once these kids see a taste of war. We know Waid/Kitson aren't pulling punches since #1 (Lallor).

Legitimacy is a good way to describe it.

I like it.
Now don't tell Mark we've figured out the rest of the story. laugh

I sure would like to see Valor back and in top form though. A lot of times he was just background, I know, but there were times when he was a force to be reckoned with.

Very interesting speculation, the Rim world idea seems a possibility...

YK, Colleen Doran art during the Valor period was truly wonderful love love

At the risk of sounding completely deranged, let me add another thought into the mix. In issue #5, we are told that Saturn Girl and Lightning Lad come upon an invasion force at the edge of the universe, presumably in the vicinity of Rimworld 19. Now (here's the wiggy part), in the 5th issue of the original series (Adventure #304) SG and LL also came across a foreign invasion force. As you'll recall, Lar Gand played a critical role in that story, and was permanently released from the Phantom Zone before the next issue.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if issue #5 homaged Adv. #304 in some way -- the parallels with SG and LL seem so obvious. The question is, how far are WaK planning to take it with respect to Lar?

Trom, you're good. There's no way this could be an accidental coincidence.

So there's a fair chance that we're about to see the reimagined Zarayan instead of a Valor that's been seduced by the dark side. That's a reflief. Didn't he get retconed into a Khund in a previous timeline?

I think we are going to be very surprised by #4 next week, leading up to #5.

And YK, I edited your link above. You had some extra code in it so it wasn't going to the Shaw's site.

Good indeed!! I can't wait now to see if this excellent speculation turns into the actual story wink

Thanks Scott. There's a lot of flash and java on that site, it's hard for a hypertextually challenged end user like me to sort out.

I'm really anxious to see if we've worked a little of this out...wait..I mean Trom figured out. Credit where credit's due. laugh
Barry's a really nice guy, I don't think you have to worry about a Anti-Trommite Squad coming after you on his behalf.
Mark and Steve however...you don't think Waid would create a Metallo Death Squad just to eliminate good guessers do you?

...and thanks you muchly for those Coleen Doran Superboy scans SW6 Valor. My eyes get all misty over those panels. That's one Legionnaire we'll never see come back and he was well loved by a great many of us.
