Okay, so I haven't gotten an issue of the new LSH since issue 7. I've been collecting Legion in one incarnation or another for the past 20 years, but.... uggh... it was moving sooo slowly. I hated Terra Firma. I hated Tinya. Worst of all... two words. NO HUSSY.
However, with all the remarks about issue 25 hitting the boards, my interest is starting to rise! Mon-El??? Mekt?? Polar Boy? WHITE WITCH???? Yes, it do appear things are happenin'!
And yet... I don't know. Am I going to be let down once again by ponderously slow plotlines, Colossal Boys who maniacally insist on calling themselves Micro Lads, and such??? Here's your chance, Legion fans! Convince me to start buying LSH again!!! Convince me to be a Legionnaire! Convince me that there's still a shameless hussy out there somewhere in space....
I want to believe, I just need a nudge!
White. A blank page or canvas. His favorite. So... many... possibilities.

Well, # 23-24 was the first good issue in a LONG time for me; I haven't read 25 yet (got it, though).
The book has been all rice cake and very little chicken breast for FAR too long time. Hopefully things have turned around.
I'm still CLOSELY watching the Nura subplot; it's still the major poop in my punch until it gets resolved or explained.

Pick up the latest trade or the next scheduled one with the Mon story in it Jeff. You can do that much without trying to reinvest yourself in the book and you'll get what is becoming the best arc yet.

Hmm... I'd like to help, but I haven't decided whether I'm buying #25 myself.
I'm just a little tired of green Polar Boy and the recycling of the Wanderers name for a group that has nothing to do with the Wanderers and stuff like that. This is the kind of stuff that really turned me of about the last version, and if it's the direction WaK are headed in, I'm not sure I want to follow.

Look the book is great. It isn't and can't have absolutely everything you ever liked from every old incarnation right off of the bat, but if you take it for what it is it is amazingly written with amazing art. I found nothing wrong with the Terra Firma Pacing for 2 reasons 1. I wasn't waiting for a particular character or subplot to reappear from the past and 2. Waid and Kitson are so good at hiding the plot details in an off handed comment or odd detail in the corner of the frame that the plot moved quite nicely with subtlety and didn't need a fight seen on every page.
If pace is re-introduction of old characters than I guess it is picking up the pace, but I have found the book to be very good all along.

I was just as jaded, Kippers, although I didn't drop the book (but I did drop getting a 2nd copy).
The last few issues have been good - really good - I'm just hoping Waid doesn't flub the climax as he did with Terror Firma.
LL is right. Wait for the trade.

Kid Prime - I'm on the fence myself. While I've collected most of this new version, it has not been my personal style preference as far as the writing has been concerned.
I think the Legion fan base is now a multi-headed creature (sorta like the Weirdo Legionnaire) produced from all those varying reboots, so not everyone is going to be satisfied with this series, or probably any new series. Personally, I resent this book is paced for multi Trade Paper Backs instead of the individual issues itself. It makes it plodding, and I refuse to buy the TPB's in protest. If you like the TPB format, I agree with Lightning Lad and recommend you pick up the Mon-El storyline when it's completed.
While I like what's happening now in the title for the past few issues, I still look forward to 52 and Teen Titans more, which is new to this Legion old-timer.

I think LSH fandom has almost always been a multi-headed beast. I think that split began in the 70s, with die-hard Silver fans who decided that the Cockrum/Grell era was not "their" legion. Each era has had its fans and critics, regardless of reboots or just creative changes.
I don't mind stories paced for TPs - if the stories warrant them. Not all stories do, though, and some are only stretched out to kill space.

I know of one guy who thinks that the Legion was permanently ruined when Paul Levitz started writing it.

There's a letter about that in one of the issues from the time.

This is one of the main problems that eventually did the reboot in - arbitrary changes for NO REASON! If Mark and or Barry have no other reason for drastically changing the appearances of Polar Boy and Chlorophyll Kid (among many other useless changes in this boot) other than they thought it was a good idea to have a white ice hero and a green plant hero (how original!) then they are just as bad as the people who turned Orando into a planet full of raccoons! Those characters had fans y'know! This title is amazing - it performs the twin feats of being both extremely annoying and extremely boring at the same time. Hold onto your hats everyone - I'm going on record right now as saying this is THE WORST LEGION SERIES EVER! I'm sorry if that offends anyone but its how I feel. I notice a lot of other Legion fans aren't being very critical of this series on this board (maybe because Barry posts here?) or maybe just because they like it, so to him and those of you who are enjoying it - good luck to you - but I am officially posting my notice that I want some sort of change in this book! A new creative team would be a start but to be honest I think the world/mythology that Waid/Kitson have established so far is so bad that the only way of salvaging this team would be a complete and utter REBOOT! Yes, AGAIN! *Disclaimer - I haven't read the last 5 or so issues which are apparently "good". I did flick through them in the shop though so I stand by my argument.

I think the reason for the more alien looking side characters well be part of the current story arc.
We've already noted that Lemnos' army had many real aliens. And now Mekt makes the "pretty teenagers" statement.
It's a good idea but it makes the characters a bit more generic. We've seen tons of background aliens by now. I am guessing their plan is to make a major change to the Legion soon. Expect not as many teenagers? Or atleast new members not to be.

I respect your right to believe that to be the case. I hold Legion on the Run, Gerry Conway and Cary Bates and mid-Reboot (after Chu before DnA) to be lower, myself, story-wise. Artwise, it only falls below Giffen and Immonen, or roughly on par with Grell, Sherman, Coipel, Battista and a few others. Yes, AGAIN! I'd hate to see yet another completely all-different 'boot, but maybe a reconcilliation of the various timelines somehow. It'd take a genius like Grant Morrison to really sort out the incongruities and come up with something workable. I think it's unfortunate that there was such a lag in the first two years. Even if WaK crank out this era's Great Darkness equivalent in story (not meaning just another crater-face tale), it may be too late for the fans who have given up. I think the presumably pre-boot Thom and Dawny in JSA may be testing the waters, myself.

I'm looking forward to the Blacula vs. Waid grudge match.
Seriously, I think the advice given by LL, to wait and collect it in trades, to be the best thus far... at least until things really start cooking, at which point I'll be jumping in a few issues too late.
Maybe I'll take a trip over to the CBS and pick up #25 after all.
Here's a thought: if preboot Thom and Dawnstar DID usher in a new era for the Legion, I wonder what it would mean for sales... to suddenly have the original LSH back. Given the events of "End of an Era," I think it would be easy for a hotshot writer to pretty much do whatever he wanted with it.

It'd take a genius like Grant Morrison to really sort out the incongruities and come up with something workable. While I understand what you're saying, I wouldn't want Morrison anywhere near a Legion book. A writer to bring all the divergent timelines together - one name..Geoff Johns. That I'd like to see.

I'd take either Johns or Morrison in a split second. But Johns would provide a solid base for others to work with in the long run. What about Gail Simone?
The latest take on the Legion just ain't doin' it for me. I would not say it is the worst ever by any means (I would agree with Kent and name Legion on the Run and the pre-DnA as the worst). Something else else just isn't coming together in the execution, and I feel bored. I also don't like several of the characters - particularly Cos, who is my favorite Legionnaire historically -and I don't feel much empathy for any of them... the emotional connection to the characters isn't there.
Recent issues are indeed on an uptick with respect to the action. But I find myself much more excited by what's going on in JSA.
Why are you laughing at me? It's unkind, as well as puzzling!
