Sixties sexism... Supergirl was 'just' a girl, after all.
I'm surprised there was never a scene where Bouncing Boy and ME Lad told Supergirl to stay at the HQ while they went and 'took care of' the dangerous villains.

I think the reason had more to do with the fact that the Legion started out as a Superboy spinoff. Originally, the Legion was a back-up feature in Adventure, with Superboy as the lead. Many of the early "Tales of the Legion" features don't have Superboy appearing. The Legion gradually became the main feature in Adventure by increasingly incorporating Superboy into their stories.

Supergirl was so rarely featured in Legion tales that I had absolutely no problem with the Andromeda retcon.
In fact, I came to really love Laurel during TMK, and she is, to me, the "supergirl" of the Legion.
I was thrilled that she & James Cullen were included in the recent Legion issue of the JLA-animated comic.

Andromeda was likeable insomuch as she was a direct rip off of KARA

Considering that DC directed not only that Kara be killed, but that her very existence be whited out, the creation of Andromeda was necessary, and well done.

Not arguing, I'm just saying it'd have been better for everyone to leave well enough alone. No one was complaining sales wise, if it aint broke...

But it WAS broke. Not sales, but Legion history. It was broken into a million pieces by DC and Mike Carlin.
Andromeda helped patch it up somewhat.

Supergirl was indeed robbed in the Adventure days. If I'd had my way, they would've repaced half of Superboy's appearances with Supergirl, half of Saturn Girl's with Dream Girl and half of Brainiac 5's with Invisible Kid.
At least when Supergirl did appear she had a fairly prominent role, as in Adv. 313, 326, 334, 350-1, 368, and 374 (though she was largely behind the scenes in 334 and 351).
Also, about half of the early Legion first appeared in Supergirl's 2 tryout stories. If not for her, some of those characters might never have come along.
It is hard to comprehend DC's motives behind erasing her and then trying to fill her shoes with Power Girl, Andromeda, and Matrix/Supergirl, and even more so now that the original Kryptonian Kara/Supergirl is back. I for one wish they would've just left things alone.

I was very fond of the original Supergirl and like some of the others here wish that she'd been featured more in pre-Crisis Legion stories, but since Kara appeared so rarely and received next to no character development my affection is much greater for Andromeda who I really came to love during the SW6 and early reboot days.
If it came to a choice between the two I'd much rather see Laurel return as this team's beautiful, blonde powerhouse.

What I really liked about Andromeda and TMK... they weren't scared to actually WRITE her, and USE her in the tales.
Other people have had Laurel put in jail, xenephobic and terrified to use her powers, joining a nunnery, and changed in a weird space-doohicky, blown up and killed.... ANY excuse to not have to write the powerful Daxamite heroine.
TMK had her on the front lines, taking her share and more of lumps with the rest of the team. I miss that Laurel.

MLLASH, I agree with every word you said.
TMK's Andy was the only time a Supergirl figure was actually a part of the team.
I wish other writers had put as much energy into using her as they did into finding ways to sideline her.

Good point, Lash, but TMK killed her too.

TMK certainly did not kill her.
The team that was post-TMK did (those responsible for "Legion on the Run"). Keith, Tom & Mary were gone at this point.

Bah...Legion on the Run ranks right up there with Dr. Mayavale as my all time MOST HATED Legion story.
Hated it with the heat of every pre-crisis sun made by RJ.
And what was up with that "making stars" thing? There are literally trillions of stars in the universe....did we really need someone just randomly making more? And why? Was it like "You know Orion would more like a hunter if we just had a couple of stars there and there, get me the Brande Corp!"?

Oh, and I forgot to say: Welcome to the universe Kara Zor-El! You've been sorely missed and all those "fake" supergirls were getting on my nerves.
Matrix Earth Angel Cir-el Valorie Andromeda
It's obvious that there ain't nothing like the real thing.

I would never vote to replace SG with Dream Girl. Phantom Girl & Violet, maybe... but never Dream Girl. But that's personal preference. I for one wish they would've just left things alone. Word was that they felt that Superman was devalued by the large number of kryptonians about and it was an editorial decision to make him "special" again. Note that Byrne immediately started looking for ways to skirt around the stupid editorial decision... or that's how I heard it.

The pocket universe isn't such a bad idea honestly. Quite frankly, I wish they'd kept it and just said "Pocket Universe."
Superboy was thus meant to be the Superman of said universe, Supergirl came from said universe, and folk like Elastic Lad and Lana lang.

Sure Jim, but they only dumped here once Zero Hour was already underway (I think) and then she was rebooted almost immediately with everybody else. Sorry Lame Lad, but there are actually few fans of Legion On the Run posting right here in this very thread I'll grant you though that rumor has it that we may be the only three fans of the story arc still living and still considered legally sane inside the 48 contiguous states. You can sum up Legion on the Run with this: Emerald Dragon. Hmmm....how can we eff up one of the longest running characters in comics?
The only consistent feature of all of your dissatisfying relationships is you.
Don't judge me!

To be fair actually, Matrix and Earth Angel Linda Danvers were both the same character and they were not bad.
One of my favorite comic TPB is Supergirl's Last issue run with Kara and her meeting. Had PAD been allowed to go from there, I think Supergirl fans would have loved her.
It's like Kyle Raynar and Kon-el, he's a great character but no one likes a "pretender" to their legacy. Ironically, I'd say all three characters are in no way pretending.
Unlike quite a few that ARE pretenders.
