It sounds interesting to me. I'm really curious about why one Legionnaire will be so greatly affected.

This one sounds suspiciously like Waid's early postboot storyline, when the team was divided over Cosmic Boy's leadership and Live Wire was forced out because of a "secret". Hopefully, the similarity is superficial only and not a warning flag that the writer is falling back on old ideas.

I wonder of said "secret" will have anything to do with the mysterious figure in Nura's visions? I'm expecting Waid to start pulling the elements together to gear us up for this galactic war so I suspect the guy might be or be related to one of the Legionnaires...although I hope not, Legion Lost was quite enough Legionnaire vs Legionnaire action for me.

However...just what in heck is the UP doing that has them on the verge of galactic war anyway? Other than playing the heavy-handed parent I really haven't seen much about what they're up to. I want to know what it is that the grown-ups are doing that has so many people pissed off?

Could it be the cloning thing?

Which story was that? I don't remember that happening in the early Post-Boot. Or are you talking about the storyline with President Chu from the second year? That wasn't Mark Waid.

The story was all about Live Wire apparently being a runaway from Winath while he was searching for Mekt. Winath ended up fielding Ayla/Spark as their official planetary rep, which saw Cosmic Boy defending Garth's position in the Legion from President Chu. A fight between Live Wire & Ultra Boy (pre-Legion membership) erupted, causing collateral damage and forced Cos to rethink his defense of Garth. Ultimately, Garth took the decision out of Cos' hands and volunteered to resign.

Thing is, I'm not sure if it was Waid who penned that.

It happened during the Waid/Peyer run. Cos's leadership problems were beginning at the same time. Leviathan replaced him as leader for a few issues, with the blessings of the U.P. Later, after the Live Wire incident, a disagreement broke out because Cos wouldn't allow Legionnaires with "weak" powers pursue Tangleweb. One of the Triads stalked out a meeting as a result and was subsequently attacked by the White Triangle, and Lyle disobeyed Cos's direct orders by joining said mission without his knowledge. Imra began questioning the impact of his decisions on team morale, and Cos in turn questioned her committment when she hesitated to take on the Composite Man. Cos also butted heads with others, iirc, xenophobic Andromeda and (maybe) Brainy. The Chu Conspiracy stuff came after Waid left, but evolved out of these events.

Disagreements over leadership decisions are a staple of super-hero teams. In the Legion they go back to Imra expelling the entire team so she could go face Zaryan alone. I don't see that the current arc bears any more resemblance to the early postboot than it does to, for example, Polar Boy's term as leader, or Lightning Lad's for that matter.

Maybe they're not showing us the cover because it gives something away. Like the identity of the mystery Legionnaire maybe...

If Barry doesn't cooperate, we should go ahead and draw the cover ourselves. Where are the crayons?

That's a heck of a thought Matthew & EDE -

That would give us -

Brainy, Jeckie, Phantom Girl, E-Lad, Lyle, Ultra-Boy, Cham, and one unidentified guy (the mystery guy in the lab?) from the cover of #1 on Brainy's team.

Cos, Nura, Dirk, Saturn Girl, Star Boy, Light Lass, and Micro Lad on the Cos' team.

Shady unaccounted for (which would jive with her questioning both Brainy and Cos). Triad's not on the cover but presumably on Cos' side. Karate Kid, Lightning Lad and Atom Girl complete unknowns.

That's what I took it to be as well... Hopefully it's "Great Minds Think Alike" and not "We're reading too much into this." smile

To me the exclusion of Garth is the most telling. I had already been thinking since the solicits that Garth would be the one "key" member removed. Could Garth be a clone of Ayla?

Doesn't look like KK's hair to me, so I left it at "mystery guy." Could be a case of "the eyes are the first to go"... (mine, that is).

Mystery Boots Boy sure gets around doesn't he? Was it ever settled exactly who those boots in the first group shot belonged to?

This cover's just wonderful. I really like what Barry's done here with the faux mirror image concept. Very cool Barry. Now I want a poster of this one so I can hang them side by side on the wall.

That's almost the wierdest Lightning Lad idea I've ever heard.

...and thank you Nightcrawler for the side by side graphic. Sweet.
