Could a new "Secrets" mini bring it all back?

Yesterday I thought about the old "Secrets of the Legion of Superheroes" mini-series. How I loved these three books (well, in Germany it all was in one special edition paperback including #272 (?) with Blok joining the Legion), how they let me know everything important about the LSH (though I already knew most about it from the German edition of the legendary tabloid), and how often I reread that book. So I thought: Would this book not be a perfect introduction into the old continuity - IF you follow it up with a new "Secrets" books which could include everything which happened afterwards? Great Darkness, Karate Kid dying, new Legionaires joining, Universo Project, Magic Wars, whatever. You would probably have to leave out Giffens 5YL run because it was a) too complicated to explain to Newbies and b) featuring a team which is too old for the target audience (not for me, I aged together with these characters!).

What I always loved about the Secrets mini was the way they included a great story into all those facts. I was pure genius to search for RJ Brandes secret son and to do so get through the files of everyone... even Kid Psycho hmmm

So how about publishing a cheap reprint of the old mini, then making a new jump-on book with "Secrets II", this time including a story like "Who killed Phantom Girl" after Magic Wars, getting though the necessary files again and then... new #1?

Oh well... just dreaming...

We'll always have the memories...

I'm not sure that DC would be interested in "debooting" the Legion back to the old continuity. But if they did, I would rather they include 5YL, even though it's not my favorite period. I'd hate to engage in "selective restoration" of the old timeline, because where would it end? Some fans I know dislike everything after Curt Swan stopped drawing the Legion back in the '60s ...

But I share your love of the old SECRETS OF THE LSH series. I already knew almost all of the characters' back stories when it was published, but the mini-series was a good way of keeping them all together. I also agree that the mystery over Brande's child was a great way of tying it all together. I can't remember if I was surprised when the son's identity was revealed, but it certainly wasn't a Legionnaire I was expecting.

By the way, CK, I've enjoyed teading your reminiscences of being a Legion fan in Germany. I visited Germany in '93, and looked for some comics while I was there. I found one bookstore with a few graphic novels or anthologies on display, including DIE FANTASTISCHEN VIER and, I believe, X-GRUPPE. The one I chose to buy, however, was a compilation of horror stories -- very EC kind of stuff, but the German was (relatively) easy to translate.

I wish I could have found a German Legion edition. It would have been fun to read the adventures of Blitzjunge and the rest.
