Here is my origin idea:

On the planet Cargg, an experiment went horribly wrong!!! All human life forms were transformed into energy and absorbed into Gilbert Space leaving the entire planet unpopulated. Eventually energy began to leak out into our universe and formed one human female. The template was an genetic average of the original genetic material and female, since there were 3 X chromosomes to every 1 Y chromosome. She also retains all general knowledge of the original humans but none of the specific individual identities. The same thing happens in amnesia victims. This female has the ability to tap into Gilbert Space and pull energy to create more bodies, but they all use the template of the invoking female to take flesh, hence all appear to be identical female humans. The invoking female can absorb her "offspring", retaining the knowledge as part of the process. At a certain point, all energy from the original inhabitants is retrieved, leaving the Gilbert Space empty of energy to make more "offspring", hence the upper limit on duplicate bodies. In the case of Triplicate Girl, she has been tranferring her energy in and out of an area of Gilbert Space inaccessible from Cargg due to being many light years from Cargg. Hence only she can access that energy. Remember, three bodies boarded the ship to travel to Earth.

Note: Gilbert Space is something similiar to subspace, hyperspace, etc. It's my own creation, crossing the mathematical term Hilbert space with Gilbert and Sullivan! We need more Gilbert and Sullivan references!! (and his sisters, and his cousins and his aunts!).

How does the above sound as an explanation of how her power works?

Tom,

I see you gave this a lot of thought. Sounds good, but will probably be different from what Mr. Waid has in mind (If we ever see more about Cargg)

I just can't wait for the inevitable homecoming storyline where Lu and the Legion saves her people in a story titled "What Eating Gilbert Space?" laugh

That reminds me. Gilbert and Sullivan weren't on Bevis' poll of greatest Brits, where they?

Here's another thought: She wasn't the lone native survivor; she was the attacker! An army of Lus came to take Cargg, and the native populace devised a toxin to try to take her out when she re-merges.

It takes effect... too late. She's already wiped them out. But feling the effects of the poison, she puts herself in stasis until help comes. But it doesn't; and she remains comatose for years, eventually waking as an amnesiac, after her hibernation equipment ages and breaks down, not even aware of her own handiwork.

Did the rest of the Lus at home realize this and not want to share it with the three Legionnaire Lus?

Tom,

That's a really cool description. I haven't heard of Hilbert Space in a long time. Is a real mathematical concept, a sci-fi staple, or something else? I can't remember.

...but you don't have a moment where you're sitting there staring at a table full of twenty-five characters with little name signs that say, "Hi, my superpower is confusing you!"
