Ya know, I enjoyed Jay's art on Ray and other books before he got the Legion assignment. But then the resulting art was, in my opinion, so below standard. Having seen his unfinished sketches online when he was getting ready to take over the book, I believe that it was an ill-matching of penciller and inker. His redesigns of some of the costumes looked great... and his Jo was very drool-worthy!

So... anyone have those sketches which were online? Pretty please?

I remember thinking that Armstrong was getting a lot more heat than I thought he deserved at the time -- I saw some improvements in his art as he went along. I don't know how much of it had to do with the inker, but I remember liking his art more each month.

I remember he drew a nice looking Jo as well -- I think he had a tendancy to give him shades though which I wasn't so hot on.

I think the inker did have something to do with the quality of JA's work, in general, but he did have a kind of funky style, not so Legion-y.

I felt like he was a very strong designer, but that the details were lacking. Also, his stuff came across as a bit cartoony. Rather hard to take especially considering the stories at the time. He depicted Brainy's crazy mom didn't he?

I thought the few issues he drew were groovy!

I liked the 'toony style, I imagined I was watching a LEGION cartoon.

He did the issue where mutiple LEGIONS from various timelines fought their evil counterparts and I liked his designs on those evil Legionnaires... (I consider them the LEGION from the earth the CRIME SYNDICATE hailed from... fairly exact duplicates, only BAD, man!)
