"Foundations is best described as The Matrix meets The Hours". That's how Legion editor Steve Wacker described the upcoming Foundations series in a feature appearing at Pulse. Includes two previously unseen pages of artwork from issue #25 and a few additional spoiler tidbits, plus some words from Dave Cockrum. Credit to "Alias the Spider" who first posted the link in the "dark bamf" thread at the DCMBs. "Foundations is about unexamined lives, both for members of the Legion and a major villain ...", continues Wacker. If you haven't seen 'The Hours', which I consider the best film of 2002, I'll just mention that it concerns three women who confront their empty/unhappy lives, with surprising consequences. Combine this with 'The Matrix' and you get ... well, beats me. Wacker also mentions that Superboy is "STILL not what you think." The man is perverse, I tell you.

Damn! Am I behind in getting my site updated or what?
And I don't know whether I hate the hinting around without saying anything or the suspense more. I can't wait until we get Steve's issue then the anniversary issue and this storyline. I really hope TPTB continue to push the Legion like this.

Ohh! I just read the interview closer and Lanning comes right out and says we are getting a "gorgeous tie-in Secret Files". Woo-hoo! Confirmation of the Secret Files!

So do we assume the major villain prophecied in Dreamcrime that will appear in Foundations is Darkseid? I hope not. I really don't want to see him in the Legion mythos again. ![ChameleonBoy ChameleonBoy](/forums/images/graemlins/default_dark/ChameleonBoy.gif)

I'm assuming so. Unless the red herring is Universo in the current story and Darkseid is the current enemy. Then again it may be the Time Trapper. All of these illusions are making my head hurt.

Yeah, all indications are that Darkseid will indeed be the villain in Foundations.
I don't know about the comparison to "The Matrix". Haven't we had enough "things are not as they seem" plotlines lately?

"ugly head" certainly suggests ol' stoneface, but what if the more specific "apocalyptic darkness" reference refers to Nura's black & white skeletal vision in #19, which I'm assuming is the destruction of the Titans since it occured there (but maybe not.) It's still early. IF DNA arer leaving within the year, you know they want to go out on a bang, and a Darkseid war would certainly fit the bill, but then so would a showdown with The Time Trapper. ![ChameleonBoy ChameleonBoy](/forums/images/graemlins/default_dark/ChameleonBoy.gif)

Sounds like a new Superboy mythology starting. Just happens to have the name of a 20th century hero who exists in our memories, but this guy comes from a 31st century planet that doesn't have a lot of imagination, the best code name they come up with is "Superboy".
Maybe it's a whole new villain - that would be nice.

I take it all back - just read the Pulse interview after I posted... if they go to Smallville it must be some sort of regular old Superboy. The thing I don't like about this is that with Superboy there, we'll probably get a lot of focus on him instead of on some of the legionnaires who haven't been on-panel much lately. I mean, he always winds up as a bit of a story-hog. Hope I am proven wrong here.
And it is a villain from the Legion's past, so...I don't know....Darkseid is so...predictable.
Nice to see my favorite evil Zapper will have a part.

He was the good friend that came for visits. Not too many issues over the some FORTY(my God!) years focused on Superboy, even when Legion was in his mag. Legion was strongly involved in the end of Superman mythos, LSH #38 et al which gives this team prestige. Not so much the other way around IMO. I would like a connection to Kal, not Kon. Both raise the same concern. Why? The Legion has a new reason for being, since Zero Hour. Well really since Mordruverse I guess. So why now? There must be a good answer to "why?"

All the Smallville teasers notwithstanding, I still think this Superboy will turn out to be Kon-El. Occam's Razor. I'd be happy to be proven wrong.
I'm more interested in the return of Darkseid and look forward to seeing what twists, turns and variations on his mythology are in store for us. Surely it can't be a coincidence that Jan Arrah is staging a comeback at the very same time, no doubt hankering for atonement. Is a Darkseid vs. Progenitor face-off in the works -- an epic battle of the gods? Does Cub's apparent rapid growth spurt have any connection at all with this arc? (Heaven forfend.) And with at least one, and perhaps two god-like powers at hand, might there be a deus ex machina waiting in the wings to restore Garth? Will Darkseid to lay another big, fat curse on the Legion, as he did in the pre-boot, but one with an unexpected outcome? Just how much homage will DnA pay to Levitz's Great Darkness Saga?
Perhaps I'm making it sound more like "The Matrix" meets "Gods and Monsters", but indulging in baseless speculation about Foundations sure beats going back to work.

Maybe the Matrix comparison just means that Karate Kid is going to hang suspended in the air before kicking someone. Kinda tough to show on the printed page, but hey, kudos for tryin'! ![smile smile](/forums/images/graemlins/default_dark/smile.gif)

Synergy, Sales, Corporate Branding, SALES and sales. Will we see a Superman emblem flying on the Legion's cover after this? Will "The Legion" be under "Superman Titles" when DC does its solits? It'd be almost ironic if the reintroduction of Superboy turns out as detrimental to the postboot Legion as his removal was to the preboot Legion. But of course, we'll have to wait and see. I have no reason to doubt DnA so far.

I'm just afraid Superboy will rocket to #1 in appearances, leaving less space for others, whether or not he gets a lot of solo time or is key to the story:
From the "Legion Grand Total" thread:
9 - Superboy - 192 CT - 174 TA - 18 FC - Remember him? The Franchise? For almost two decades his name always preceded the team's name. It was his team, like Babe and the Yankees. I'm sure other posters besides He Who Wanders thought Kal had a shot at #1, but you have to consider it hasn't been Superboy AND The Legion of Super-Heroes for over two decades. Yet even past that point, his power was still felt. For the combined multi-period of Adventure thru Volume 2, he was ranked #1. He has second highest FC in the index.

Consider this too. Clone-El is currently living with Ma and Pa Kent in Smallville. So it does not have to be the 'original' Clark they meet. They could be meeting Connor Kent, which I think is the name Kon is using.

This reminds me -- "Smallville" (the tv show) can *never* show Clark as Superman because Clark as he is now doesn't look anything like the bespectacled Clark Kent that moves to Metropolis. How is Lex (or anyone else in Smallville) not supposed to know Superman and Clark aren't the same??
