A poster on DC's Legion board brought up an interesting thought. He said he often thought of Shadow Lass being (in Earth equivalent) of either Arabic or East Indian ethnicity, which brings up a FASCINATING image.
So what do you think would fit the other female Legionnaires? (Dawnstar is a given.)
I can picture: Dream Girl (Norwegian), Saturn Girl (German), Light Lass (Russian), Triplicate Girl (Dutch?), Phantom Girl (Spanish), Shrinking Violet (Chinese), White Witch (Finnish), Shikari (Hindu), XS (Gypsy?), and Kid Quantum (Masai?).
It would be great to see these characters in the traditional clothing of the mentioned groups.
Opinions?

I believe it was shown that Jenni is half Arabic and half Anglo-Saxon.

Well, Krishna was blue as well...

Hm, I guess I might see it as:
Lu - Italian
Vi - Canadian
Shikari - Slovakian
Tinya - Icelandic
Dreamy - Swedish
Ayla - Californian

I figure that by the year 3006, unique ethnicity is a defunct concept , killed by ultra-commonization, a word I can just made up.

I always think of Dreamy as being kind of a US east coast(NY?) blonde.

I think of Andromeda as being Texan.

Imra- British

Lu- Greek

Ayla- Australian

I'd love to see a Japanese Shrinking Violet!

I like Drake's idea for Tinya to be Icelandic

Projectra- somewhere in Europe. Not sure where exactly.

Of course, I'd like to add that I'd really prefer to see more emphasis on the alien cultures these ladies come from...something unique and not so much emulating Earth cultures. It's a fun game, though.

I know I sometimes did the what if the Legion were not in the 30th century and only on Earth game. It's fun! I remember I had Triplicate Girl as Romanian just because many Romanian surnames end in a 'u', like Luornu. Not that Luornu is a very Romanian name, mind.

Phantom Girl was Russian, (would be easy to change Tinya to Tanya) and of course she would have a romance with the American Ultra Boy. (cold war thing, this was back in the days of the Soviet Union), Night Girl was a Maori from New Zealand, ( because I thought her owl symbol looked a bit like Maori art).

Projectra was the princess of some tiny European principality much like Monaco or Litchenstein. Somebody was Turkish but I can't remember who now! That's annoying!

Anyway that's all I can remember for now. It was a while ago.

The main reason I started this thread was because I'm thinking about doing drawings of the female legionnaires in traditional Earth ethnic costumes. (Hindu in a sari, etc.)
Can you just picture Shadow Lass in an East Indian outift?

For various Legion World authors take on this, I suggest trying 21st Century Legion (in the Bits forum), where this very idea is explored in a 21st century setting (in real life, not DCU).

IMO, a very rich and diverse group has already been established and continues to be so.

Read it! You'll love it! (And Reboot, Invisible Brainiac and I have some great, great stuff planned down the road)...

I don't know about previous versions of Tinya but Waid's seems Italian-American to me somehow. Somehow I see her saying Fuhgeddaboudit and smacking some boy in the back of the head.

Triplicate Girl seems to be British because of her administrative abilities. This would be a nice touch if Chuck were Irish (and a staunch republican). I could see her as one of those Japanese office girls too.

Ayla has to be midwestern American. A 31st century Lana Lang.

Projectra and Orando has to be from a land that time forgot in Eastern Europe. If there was a principality of Transylvannia or something.
