Any particular reason?

I once had somebody explain to me that Atmos body was invisible and the reason why but I don't remember it.

I thought I heard he had some type of invisibility disease. Can't remember where I heard/read that though.

Perhaps he figured that the surgery to remove his armpits would cost less than buying space-deodorant for decades.

I think it was just one of those tragic fashion accidents (like Paula Abdul's hair Sunday night at the Emmys.)

A little known fact of Xanthusian men is that their body hair, especially under the armpits, emits a pheromone that encourages you to be yourself. (Go ahead - get close and sniff one to find out!) While this seems like a tiny detail - reflected in their species by the powerful self-image of the women of Xanthu, it stymied any kind of mental influence Atmos tried to exert. This hardly fit the image of Champion of Xanthu that the Tribunal wanted, so the hair had to go.

At least that's what I heard from Trudy Trusoe, which she got from a Science Police officer who helped with the Xanthu re-populating. Trudy says the Athramite vessel responsible for Atmos's designs really was accidentally destroyed by the Moby Dick of Space; the Xanthu government had no way of knowing that the gift awarded to the Athramites vibrated at the same frequency as the Moby Dick's prey.

I'm so glad to see this brought up...personally, I have always felt that this is the greatest un-answered question in LSH history!

My theory: he loved doughnut holes, and underwent some sort of dimensional inversion therapy to enable him to create doughnut holes at will, thus leaving him without armpits!!!

Have we ever really seen Thom's armpits? Maybe invisible armpits are a characteristic trait of the Xanthuans, like twinning for Winathians and stuff.

If they had no other heroes, I'm betting Invisible Armpits Lad would have tried out for the Legion.

Wow. Eric may have hit the nail on the proverbial head. We never saw armpits on any Lallorian other tha Monstress did we?

Atmos' lack of armpits was one of the major reasons that I hated him!

Besides being a major jerk and all...

I can't believe I came up with my theory about Xanthuan armpits and the postboot Andy-Doug reversal with days of one another!

I'm on some kind of filling-in-the-background-details-of-the-Legion-Universe roll!
