hi all,

Our Legion Idol in 2024 pitted Legionnaires of all eras, in a contest to rank them all, until we got down to one winner. There, the Legionnaires had to compete against versions of themselves, and it was fun to see, for a given Legionnaire, whether the Preboot version would be most popular, or the Reboot one.

For this Idol game, let's switch it up. Now, we are a group of writers, and we have to form a team of 25 Legionnaires in a completely new reality.

Our starting point - a list of "unique" characters. That is: Preboot Saturn Girl and Reboot Saturn Girl are both Imra Ardeen, so they occupy one spot on our candidate list.

1) Because we're forming a new team, I've also added various other super-beings (think: Subs, Academy Students, Heroes of Lallor, Wanderers...) I've drawn the line at beings who are good, or at least anti-villainish. No out-and-out villains. Thus, Mekt's group from the Threeboot are in, but the Fatal Five are out. Legion rejects are here - even though they've been out and out villains - because they did try out.

2) This may be controversial, but I've also added a few non-powered good guys: you will see Shvaughn Erin and Gigi Cusimano on the list.

But hold on! Some Legionnaires had very different powers between 'Boots! So, we will make an exception for those. A Legionnaire will have multiple entries, for cases where a version of them had significantly different powers. OR where they had significantly different powers through their history.

Examples:

Ayla Ranzz has had lightning powers AND anti-grav powers (and even light-based powers in Superboy's Legion)! So Ayla Ranzz gets three entries on the list.

Violet normally only shrinks; but in the mid-Reboot, she got growth powers. So she gets two entries.

Kinetix with her psychokinetic powers vs. Kinetix as terrorform will get different powers.

To avoid the list getting too long, here's the fine print: "significantly different" powers does not consider cases where the expanded powers are a natural extension of past powers.

Reboot Invisible Kid was able to - with effort - make up to two others invisible. He was also able to "layer" his invisibility; making his skin/organs invisible, and showing only his skeleton. I would consider these as natural extensions of his power.

In 5YL, Color Kid used his powers to make disorienting auroras. I'd argue this just shows finer control of his powers, and is not a new power-set.

However, late DNA-era and Superboy's Legion Tasmia both had tangible darkfields. I would argue this is much more different than casting darkness, so should get a different entry.

I also have Black Witch and White Witch as different entries, as I think the magical bent is different enough.

OK, there is a bit of wiggle room here, so I will post the list first, and give it a couple of weeks for folks to weigh in and discuss!

I've generally used code names.

OK so dumb me for asking probably a stupid clarifying question.

As to the rools - you're just asking us to create a list of 25 right?

good points - both have unique powers that their counterparts don't! Added to the list already posted smile

yes, the game idea is that collectively, we will trim the list down to 25 smile We'll go through a few rounds of voting, trimming the list bit by bit.

Can you add links or appearances to some of the more obscure characters listed? I have basically every AR Legion appearance and I'm drawing a blank on a few of these such as Adam Karl, Blazerr, Sister Scrap Iron,Zaphammer, etc.

Blazerr was a legion applicant in an issue during the Cobalt Blue crossover. Bart showed up at Legion HQ and thought he was attacking Xs instead of just demonstrating his power to her. (The blue flames caused confusion.)

I looked it up. Flash 148 from 1999. Chain Lightning part 4. His only appearance.

Zaphammer sounds familiar but can't place him (or her), The other two don't ring any bells.

I can work on it, though frankly I'm a little scared of doing so smile It will take a while

Another qualm I have is that one reader's obscure is another reader's "how can you not know that?". I'll need to have a think about which ones I add a link to...

ok, so for Zaphammer and Sister Scrap Iron and a few others, I've added a small callout beside their name on who they are.

for many of these characters there won't be any pages or articles to link to, so I think this is a reasonable solution.

I can go through the list and add callouts like this, but it will take time - and will probably need to be done for around half the list or so.

Also, should we include the Justice Society of the 31st century from the New Golden Age and Justice Society of America? (I think native to the future were Green Lantern, Doctor Fate (human), and Atom Smasher (those names are all my choices) as well as Xs), then time traveled includes Solomon Grundy, Huntress, and I guess Wildcat (not Ted). And Mordru who I guess is both?) Anyway, I don't expect they'd go far either but maybe for completeness.

Well, I can see I'm going to have a rough time, I've picked forty already!

My own criteria would be;

Avoid too much duplication. I love magical sorts like Glorith II, Harlak, Dr. Fate II or Dragonmage, but I obviously don't want all of them on the same team! Similarly, I might be intrigued by Echo, but I want sonic-Tyroc much more, and I don't want *two* sonic guys!

Try and pick at least some folks from each 'boot or AU. It would be easy enough to make a group of 25 from just the classic or reboot continuities, but I feel like there are some great folks in both continuities that would be left on the table, *and* some fun original characters in other places, like the Threeboot. I wouldn't want an all-original team without both Tellus and Kid Quantum II in it, for example!

Try *not* to cherry pick my favorites from other teams, like the Wanderers (Quantum Queen!) or Heroes of Lallor (Evolvo Lad, Life Lass, Gas Girl!).

thanks. I knew they were when I researched them, but I was doubting whether to add the issue number. Some of these entries are already getting to be so long...!

I do appreciate you sharing so others can look them up!

Most of these entries won't make it very far, anyway tongue but I think it will be fun to make this list as broad as possible... we never know if a surprise obscure character will have a large following!

Just to add for completeness (and probably make Ibby scream smile ) I did not see Mwindaji or Otaki. They were (I think) Academy Members who went on a mission in the Legion books around 2012.

Some other SPs to consider could be Dvron, Quav, Dewar (Magno's partner in Legion Worlds) and Buck Bond (early reboot).

Some "Non-Powered" characters could include Amilia Crugg, Antonio Steffanuci, and Wildfire's Legion's support crew (a brother and sister IIRC)

Some potential Powered people are Elasti-Kid 5 (from right before the Earth blew up), Telekinesis (I think there was a 3boot Wanderer with that name), Sensei (Karate Kid's mentor), Soultaker (from that one panel of Doomsday Clock), Rush (the blonde speedster that was on the same satellite as Ivy), Flotsam and Jetsam (the flying fish aliens from around Lighte's time. They were in the recruitment issue)

Should the Legion of Executive Familiars be included from the DC 1 Million Special (Octus, Googal, Savitar, Phaeton and Wormhole) and what about Super-Turtle (he was on the poster)

Would Emerald Vi be different enough to include?

Also, perhaps the Knigts Tempus (they took Cos to the Future in the 3boot)

Finally (I don't know about these) the "Joke" characters: From Sergio Aragones Destroys DC - Bagel Boy, Cable-Installer Lad, Cotton Swab Boy, Cheryl Lad, Deja Vu Kid, Lox Lass, Nixon Lad, One Hit Wonder, Rejection Lass, and Windows Woman (all rejected applicants), From Elseworlds Special - Young Darkseid, From KFC: Crisis of Infinite Colonels - Colonel Lad (he worked in the Legion kitchen), and from an Ambush Bug Special - Julie Lad, and Appliance Boy (I'm pretty sure he's from the same issue. It's Ambush Bug as a blender).

Sorry to run long and I really only feel that the first two "need" to be added but my tastes run to the obscure and absurd so I have lists of these things. Just be glad I didn't list all the various animals that have been seen.) Also, I may have overlooked some of these on the list, If so, I apologise.

Mwindaji and Otaki definitely need to be included. Good call.

Rush is listed as Mara Williams, but perhaps adding the codename would be a good idea.

"Flotsam and Jetsam" are there as the Skreaks.

can't believe I missed Mwindaji and Otaki! thanks! these are definitely names I would regret missing.

Dvron is there.

I think I'll pass on most of thee other SPs. the ones I did have in there have close-ish links with the Legion AND were generally portrayed as being about their age. I know it's a fine line... Buck Bond is the one I'll add though because he's unique.

Sergio Aragones Destroys DC is a bit too far in my view... although... the Legion really did appear there right? I was thinking it was a parody of the team, not the team itself. but if it was the actual Legion appearing, then yes.

Knights Tempus can go in, if the Knights of Nadir did. I was just thinking that both of these are groups, and will stretch that 25-member limit tongue

Steffanaci, Crugg. and Wildfire's Dead Earth crew (Gizi and Ziga) are going in

Young Darkseid, Colonel Lad, Julie Lad, Appliance Boy are going in!

Emerald Violet makes sense as an addition!

Legion of Executive Familiars, I'll say NO unless there's a more definite Legion connection.

that group you listed Telekinesis etc. are going in.

Oh, I actually meant for you to list the Knights of Nadir as individuals, not as a group. That's the big difference between them and the Knights Tempus , that we know the names of individual members.

I can add them based on your thread here:

https://www.legionworld.net/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=789776

And because we don't know individual identitiesof the Knights Tempus, I won't add them to the list
