I don't know if she's every elaborated on this before, but Gail Simone mentions her 4-issue run on the Reboot Legion that ended up becoming the end of the whole Reboot (with only the Titans crossover to cap it off, after the fact).

Quote
"I was told DnA needed a short break so I agreed to do four issues, just a fun LoSH story. What actually happened was they ended DnA's run and ran my story as the final story in that run. It was not fair to DnA who had been doing a great job. That editor is long since gone but that was a really mean thing to do to the regular creative team. And it was the first time I'd ever been manipulated like that. Otherwise, I loved writing the story and the artists were incredible."

Oof.

Oh, that Wacky Wacker! To think someone could actually do an even worse job editing the Legion than McAvennie!

Well, I may not be Gail's biggest fan but I certainly appreciate her sharing this.

Thanks, Alexander.

Yeah, it seemed pretty obvious at the time that both she and Keith Champagne were, if not outright deceived, at least not made aware o the fact that their Legion stories would basically be the tail end to the reboot continuity and not further followed up on. It's a really a shame, as both marked a significant uptick in quality from the last few DnA arcs, imo.

I agree. I only recently read the Champagne and Simone issues, and found them flawed yet overall decent.

Gail definitely set up a few things that could have been continued --

- introducing rebooted versions of Nightwind and Infectious Lass
- setting Karate Kid up with the Persuader's daughter
- Apparition and Winema reconciling
- the epiphany of Trudi Trusoe
- the wounding and potential death of Dr. Gym'll

as well as some good character work

it definitely was a step in the right direction

Yes, she actually made similar statements on Twitter back in the 2020/2021 timeframe, so this sounds very true.

Didn't DnA have other plot threads that they themselves wanted to directly address? Didn't we have a thread on that here?

Truer words have never been said, although I'd bet a LOT of money on DiDio being the one behind all of it.

I think the Champagne/Lightle issue was a bit different, in that it was an inventory (fill-in) issue that had been sitting on the shelf for a bit - "written over a year and a half" before, and being drawn before #24 was published - rather than something specially commissioned for that slot?

Yes, they asked for three more issues to at least tie up the Cub thing and some other stuff.

I think there's plenty of evidence from his time as Spider-Man editor that Wacker was a complete hole without needing DiDio to push him into it.

Well I do remember Keith gushing at the time about how excited he was that they let him do a "fill-in" issue that would have lasting and long term effects on one of the characters, so whenever it was actually written, e didn't seem to have a full grasp of the situation at the time it was published.

Actually, the realisation just hit me - TL #34 was written a year and a half before June 2004. The transition issue from McAvennie to Wacker was TL #14, published (slightly late) at the start of December 2002. What odds it was commissioned by McAvennie? (If it wasn't, it must have been one of Wacker's very first actions)

Sounds like upper management was keeping the Threeboot cards pretty close to the vest.

Or you just had two jerks combining their powers....
