I noticed Justice League Adventures #21... the book in the Justice League cartoon continuity... has a 20th century ancestor of Saturn Girl.
Which got me thinking: how many ancestors of the Legionnaires from the 20th or 21st century have we seen?
And I mean people who get names or are at the very least full characters, so not counting the people kidnapped by the Dominators or relocated by Valor (otherwise it's most of them).

Aside from the obvious ones (Shadow Lass, Brainiac 5, pre-retcon Laurel Kent, XS) and the Legionnaires who originate from the 20th/21st century, the only ones who comes to mind are Cosmic Boy's ancestor from his miniseries and the ancestor of Dream Girl and White Witch that was introduced in the Supergirl TV series, who I'm pretty sure has been introduced in the comics too.
Probably one of the people from Bgztl that show up in L.E.G.I.O.N. but I'm not sure if it was confirmed one of them is Tinya's ancestor.

Am I missing anyone?
Any ancestor you'd like to see?
I prefer having a known ancestor to be rare for the Legion, given the 1000 year gap, but the one I think we're missing is an ancestor of Projectra... you would think Orando would show up in the present day. It would depend on how long ago it was settled, but Sorcerers' World has been seen in the present.

I believe the Phantom Girl from the Terrifics is supposed to be Tinya's ancestor.

How is the L.E.G.I.O.N comic? I know the basic idea but have never heard anything about it.

Also, I vaguely remember a Durlan Green Lantern with the name Daggle.

I think it'd be hilarious if Garth and Ayla trolled Black Lightning into thinking he's their great great something grandpa. Someone commented that DC missed a chance to do that joke before the Bendisboot started when they changed their skin color.

And for added measure implying that they're direct descendants from Thunder and Grace to explain the red hair.

It is estimated that there are approximately 5 million living descendants of William the Conqueror (b. 1O28, 996 years ago)
and about 16 million living descendants of Temujin {Genghis Khan} (b. ~1154, 87O years ago)
so any descendant of a 2Oth-century character in the 3Oth century implies the existence of many, many such descendants.

There are plenty of 3Oth and 31st-century descendants of 2Oth and 21st-century characters inside and related to the Legion.
Kent Shakespeare is generally supposed to also be a descendant of Superman.
Oli-3 Queen is a 30th Century descendant of Green Arrow.
In the "Who Shot Laurel Kent" annual, there is a private detective who is a descendant of Batman. I think his name was Brane, but I may be getting him confused with Brane Taylor from another timeline. There were also a couple of Thanagarian Hawkpolice who were implied to be descendants of Hawkman and Hawkwoman.
In the Legion of Super-Heroes in the 31st Century comic (a tie-in with the Saturday Morning Cartoon) we meet a 31st-century Green Lantern named Jordana Gardner, a descendant of both Guy Gardner and Hal Jordan.
Antonio Stefanacci, the curator of the Museum of Mystic Arts in the 30th Century, is a direct descendant of Antonia Stefanacci, a friend of Zatanna Zatara who originally opened the Museum of Mystic Arts in the 21st Century.
The Tornado Twins (Don and Dawn Allen) were also descendants of the Flash, although you have already mentioned XS, Dawn Allen's daughter.
As Blok was the last male Dryad, and Strata was said to be the last female Dryad, that would seem to imply that Strata is Blok's mother, although maybe I am making unwarranted assumptions about Dryad physiology.
Trivially, one version of Ferro Lad was actually born in the 21st century, making his parents 21st-century ancestors. The same is true of Harmonia Li. (and Insect Queen/Lana Land, Elastic Lad/Jimmy Olsen, and Pete Ross)

Notably, though, the Who Shot Laurel Kent? Annual was meant to explain why there weren't tons of descendants of prominent 20th century heroes running around in the Legion's time.

I don't think the "Brane" name was used for the Bruce Wayne descendant in that story (who I think was just unnamed).

Yeah that's exactly why I don't like having too many known ancestors. Although Projectra is the one where it would make sense, as royal dynasties tend to at least claim to have direct ancestors from centuries in the past.
I also realized that, thanks to Coluans living longer than humans and I assume longer than most of the other races represented in the Legion, the Brainiac legacy isn't that impressive for them.

Speaking of which: other than the Coluans, do other Legionnaires come from races that live for very long? I don't think it's ever been addressed for anyone else.
(leaving aside that 70s story where they imply that in the 30th century everyone lives for very long)

I would assume Durlans, as it's fairly typical for shapeshifters in fiction. And the Dryad... how would they even age? Erosion?

It would make some sense that Stone Boy's people, the Zwennians (?), would be able to live a long time, at a bare minimum, twice as long as normal humans, since I'd assume that they don't age in stone form.

Kryptonians (and presumably Daxamites?) have been suggested at times to be nearly immortal, and then at other times (Byrne seemed particularly fond of drawing an older Superman), Superman's been aged up. So, kinda inconsistent, there.

Not a race, but reboot Wildfire was established as immortal in the Legends of the Dead Earth Annual. Though later he was shown as decreasing his lifespan whenever he uaed his powers shortly before the reboot ended.

There were also the good guy descendants of Mr. Mxy and Lex Luthor in the adult Legion story (Adventure 354-355).

Which raises the question: why weren't there any descendants of 20th/21st century villains? Or were there?

I just realized that we might have a decent idea of where most of the Legionnaire ancestors come from.

Most of them come from planets settled by people experimented on by the Dominators during the Invasion event.
The first place they took, and where we saw they were rounding up A LOT of people, was Australia.
We saw they kidnapped people from all over the world, sure, but Australia was definitely the place they had the most control over. So I assume the vast majority of humans captured and eventually relocated were taken during the occupation of Australia.
So... does that mean that most Legionnaires descend from Australians?

3Oth-century Bizarro Superboy.

Everyone forgets about Bizarro Superboy. Legion Applicant. Legion Reject. Legion Enemy. Intergalactic menace. Founder of The Legion of Stupor-Bizarros of Htrae. 3Oth-century Descendant of 2Oth-century Superman villain. And avatar of all Legion writers, past and future.

Me am forget the Bizarro Legion story!

https://comicsarcheology.com/index.php/2020/11/04/adventure-comics-329/

But yes, he does count as a descendant. Or at the very least as a duplicate of the original Bizarro, as I really don't want to think about Bizarro reproduction.

I don't think it's ever explicitly stated that that's where the Bizarro Superboy from that issue comes from, but given that we do know that Bizarro #1 and Bizarro-Lois have children, it would make sense that he is their descendant!

It took me a little while to find it, but “Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Bizarro Sex* [*But Were Afraid to Ask]” can be found in Superman #140 (Oct 1960)
