Welcome to......

Kill This Thread LIII

The following rules were established by Kent Shakespeare at the start of the first 24-hour version, adapted from the original rules by EDE:

The rules:

1. The Basic Idea: Post to this thread, if no one posts after you for 24 hours, you win!

2. Posts that are not direct responses to one of the five preceding posts are ineligible to win. The topic can drift, but no complete non-sequitors. Posts that are responses to non-sequitors are also ineligible to win. Posts that are responses to responses to non-sequitors, and response nses to those posts, etc., become eligible, however.

3. In the event that this thread is locked, there shall be no winner unless a new thread is started for the contest. Furthermore, any post that results in the banning of the poster shall also be ineligible to win.

4. So, more precisely, one wins if one makes a post, and then no one makes another post that's eligible to win for 24 hours.

This weekend, I'm going to watch the famous French movie "Amelie" for the first time.

Let us know your thoughts on it Annfie.

I saw a play version a couple of years back.

I remember watching it...

I also have fond memories of my year and a half in Paris

I really enjoyed it when it came out, but I do kind of wonder if it would hold up if I re-watched it now.

There's a lot of movies I've seen and liked that I've never watched more than once, because I'm afraid they won't hold up.

Sometimes it's better just to bask in the glow of positive memories.

I'd rather think of Excalibur than think of any of my exes.

Helen Mirren and her ex were apparently unaware they'd both been cast in Excalibur. It apparently pleased the film's makers to see them trying to out compete each other and the tension their scenes brought.

I was actually talking about Excalibur the Marvel comic, but I love the unrelated movie just as much.

I figured you were, but too good a chance to combine it with exes in a snippet.

Still love the Alan Davis art. Claremont prose takes a bit of getting used to again.

There's very little Claremont prose from the 80s that I can still tolerate. puke

Claremont started out great at both plots and dialogue, but by the time he (involuntarily) stopped writing the X-Men after 17 years, he was awful at BOTH!

17 years sure is a loooooong time

I have the perception that Wolfman/Perez also fizzled out a bit towards the end of their great run. I am only basing this on my half-remembered impressions from reading though.

That's a good comparison. Arguably, it was the repercussions of Crisis on Infinite Earths that ultimately killed Titans. Wolfman got writer's block, Perez had a nervous breakdown, and both were burned out.

Another reason for me to dislike CoIE. smile

Another obvious comparison is with Levitz's Legion, although as critical as I am of much of the second half or so of the Baxter run, I'm not sure it quite reach the lows of the other two.

Well said, EDE. I think Levitz should have quit right after The Greatest Hero of Them All/The Death of Superboy.
