It must, if in the future DCU they've got DC comics as relics, right?
But has it been seen in books set in the present day?

Actually, though they obviously don't advertise it because of the silliness, its been stated that in the DC Universe that comic book companies publish the adventures of existing superheroes.
In retcon, it explains how Barry Allen knew of Jay Garrick.

It was brought up repeatedly in Giffen's run on Justice League. The idea isn't inherently silly, though. The idea is that comics publishers fight for rights to publish comics on the real heroes. Not, naturally, including their personal lives or anything, but who wouldn't want to buy superman comics in a world where he really exists?

Happens in Marvel comics too... I always wondered though, who the secret identities of the heroes would be in the comics. I'm sure Animal Man's identity would be Grant Morrison. Would Batman be billionaire playboy Denny O'Neil? Would Superman be Jeph Loeb (I know he thinks he's Superman... so it wouldn't be too far a stretch)? Here's irony, the silver age Green Lantern's secret identity: Ron Marz.

There's also DZ Comics, the publisher that Myron Victor (Merry Man of the Inferior Five) and Sam Simeon (of Angel and the Ape fame) work for.

I'd love to see an issue of Nightwing that takes place in the modern DCU and doesn't have any Batman, Robin I or Dick Grayson references. (because the writers don't know anything at all about his real life of course) Maybe the writers would think he drew more on Wildcat for inspiration due to the acrobatic thing and less on the gimmickry of the Bat. Wally West is "out" in public right? Maybe these fictional writers think he's always been the Flash.

They know Nightwing was actually Robin ironically, since he took his place in the Teen Titans.

I think someone said he'd been de-outed by writer retcon (see, it's not just the Legion!), but I haven't read one in a while, so I don't know. However, given that Wally was Kid Flash, they'll know Wally was too young to have been Flash back during Kid Flash days.

D'oh! Right, how could I have dropped the ball on that one? I loved Kid Flash in the Titans.

However, given that Wally was Kid Flash, they'll know Wally was too young to have been Flash back during Kid Flash days.[/b]Recently, the Specter (Hal Jordan) made everyone forget that Wally West was the Flash so that Wally could re-establish his secret identity and protect his family. I picked up the series just after this happened and just as Wally was being confronted by Batman and the JLA about WHO he was since no one could remember. He eventually raced around and unmasked himself to his hero friends

Wally keeping it a secret from his wife is reprehensible in my opinion and beyond the pale. It's something that I think really lowers the Flash as a character.
Especially because its in liu of their children being killed by Zoom.

I didn't even know Wally was married. When did that happen?

I was chatting with Tim Vigil of Faust recently and he reminded me that his first book was about a character named Grips who made his living as a comic book artist. It was a pretty cool bit for the superhero of the story to be a superhero artist.
-the Capt. America thing reminded me of the convo-
Hero Alliance was supposedly heavily merchandised with action figures and stuff too so I assume there would be a comic book.
There are lots of real life comics out there so why wouldn't there be comics about real life superheroes?

What's interesting, then, is how much of the Legion's spin on the "heroic age" must come from these (most likely) glamorized accounts of twentieth century heroes as portrayed in comic books of the DCU.
Maybe the notion of secret identities doesn't play a role in the comic representations of super-heroes, which would explain why (we can assume) the Legionnaires don't do secret identities?

Andi Watson's Love Fights was a mini-series about comic book artists depicting real-life superheroes, but covering them like journalists - a whole industry devoted to the various heroes. There was even a time-travel based paternity suit against one hero.

A few years back, Marvel did a bunch of one-shots which were meant to be issues of Marvel comics as they were published in the Marvel Universe.
