Yeah. Way to go, GL!

I hope my library gets it in. I read the standard-sized reprint in the Superboy and Legion of Superheroes v.1 trade, and it definitely lost some of its grandeur. Of course, it would have helped if Mike Grell had had a better inker than Vinnie Colletta.

And speaking of reprint trades, I just checked the list of newly arrived graphic novels in my public library system -- LSH Before the Darkness v.2 is NOT THERE! mad

Thanks! I saw that it was coming out and had to pre-order as soon as I saw it - know full well I'll probably never get a hold of one of the reprints and like you said, in the other smaller Omnis, its not quite as cool!

About BfD v2, what is their standard lead time for getting new stuff? It's only been a few weeks.

Also, the 5YL v2 omni got delayed... frown

I'm not sure what the standard lead time for new graphic novels is for my public library system. With GNs, it always seems to be feast or famine.

But that's actually a very good question. I'll pay more attention, and see how long it takes for the next big load of GNs to arrive.

Thanks, GL, much appreciated.

Glad it's been reprinted.

I am actually extremely fortunate. Several years back, when a colleague at work learnt that I collect comics and am a Legion fan, he told how he had a number of older Legion comics but didn't collect anymore. He was curious what had happened since and in exchange for being able to read all my copies he GAVE me his older ones.

One of those was that Damned Tabloid!

For a long time I hadn't realised how lucky I was.

WOW! How amazing is that!?

I didn't know much about that whole thing until a decade or two ago, but I'm at least glad to have it in a durable replica. It's great to be able to read these heroes doing their thing in a longer form.

Y'know, as long as I've been a part of LSH internet fandom, I've never seen it explained why we call it "that damn" tabloid! Is it because it's a poor fit, longbox-wise, with its contemporary issues? It being difficult to obtain? Both? Other reasons?

Do tell!

Having been around back in 1077 and anxiously awaiting the publication of soon-to-be-called TDT, I can tell you that were definitely distribution issues and this was very hard to find. Lucikly Christmas came early for me and I scored a copy. I found mine at a small neighborhood grocery store that never carried comic books but did have a large magazine area. And they did carry Marvel and DC Tabloids. So I kept an eye out and got mine (the only copy there) either the same day it went on the shelf or the next day. For the next few weeks after that, I would continue to frequent other drug stores and groceries that carried both comics and tabloids to pick up new comics, etc. And none of them had any copies of TBD. No where. Now this was before the blizzard of 1978, but I vaguely remember there being a snowstorm in the midwest / ohio valley around this time, so that may have contributed to distribution issues (DC was already having spotty distribution issues that year for various reasons. The other interesting thing is that SLSH was one of DC's best selling titles back then, and IIRC the Legion got the honor of being DC's first tabloid with totally original content (previous tabloids were all reprints). TDT was also highly anticipated by regular readers of SLSH as the storyline flowed from SLSH to TDT and then back to SLSH (ramping up for Earthwar). I doubt a majority of those readers suddenly decided to not buy TDT (I'm sure at least a few people passed once seeing the horrible job Vince Colletta did). In the 80's and 90's, I never saw TDT in any of the many comics shops I visited across the country or at any cons. However I did get surprised at a comics shop in Phoenix in the mid-90's as they had a copy in fair condition. I still have an original copy of TDT but I also have the HC reprint on order with instocktrades.com. Gotta have it smile

To be fair, distribution was not easy before the invention of the printing press in the 15th century.

I remember being really really excited when news of the tabloid was announced and immediately ordered a copy, through the convoluted method of buying a bank draft and sending it to DC comics. And it took so long to reach Singapore where I live, that I thought the bank draft did not go through, and went through another round of sending a bank draft. That was how I ended up with 2 copies of the Taboid smile Unfortunately, given the humidity in Singapore, the tabloids didn't age well, though still readable. I was not impressed with etiher the story nor the art. The story was loose and uninteresting, and the art was rushed and diluted. I actually expected more panels per page, but it was simply a comic blown up. I enjoy Duo Damsel and Bouncing Boy's marriage issue, with the return of Starfinger, or The Legion of Superheroes 300, The Future is Forever, much more. But once a Legion fan, always a Legion fan...I just ordered the hardcover Tabloid from Book Depository smile
